Don't you just love it when you get instructions that hold an undefined threat. The one I seem to get most is you have until a certian day to respond. I always want to say "Or what? I'm going to turn into a pumpkin?" Or any other smart remark that comes to mine. Why not just ask me please to respond by that day? That would get the conversation off to a much happier start. How do you react? Have you found that if someone asked you to do something and it makes you very uncomfortable
if you review the request there is a hidden threat included. Or maybe you just don't want to do it.

I don't like those things either. And I agree with you that if it was worded differently, then it would get a better response. I guess sometimes these instructions or statements were not very well thought out. I think in an attempt to sound intelligent, it comes out sounding like a demand. I would not pay much attention to that.

If anyone does that to me, they are barking up the wrong tree! I don't respond to threats and am more than likely to do the exact opposite!

Like you I don't appreciate threats or demands..you can ask me to do something and I'll get it done..on time...when it's needed...but if you push the wrong buttons you are facing a wall...me! I don't have time for people who demand things from me.

I have seen things like that before and I have to say that I don't think there's any need for it in the slightest. I have worked with people since I left school, and one of the things that I have noticed is that people respond a lot better to things if you say them in a nice way instead of being nasty to people. Sometimes there might be need for threats for example if they owe somebody money and have taken far too long to pay it back, however when you get people making threats in situations when it would be much easier to be polite then I don't agree with it at all.

I have a client who always ends his messages with "Please respond in a timely manner, or else I can't guarantee anything"
I always think, you can't guarantee what? That it won't rain tomorrow? That's ok, neither can I.
I also love the letters I get from my Internet provider, saying "please upgrade your connection, and we'll insure 99% up-time for it". Well, you better insure 99% up-time for my current connection, because it's in the contract and I'll sue you if you don't - and that's a very clear threat, not a hidden one
