SIL killed a rat

We have had a real problem with rats. We have put traps out and they didn't work.. we put poison out and that didn't work either. SIL put out some kind of sticky stuff on a board like thing (I didn't see it) but it gets the rat caught in it. I saw the rat. It was almost half the size of a cat. I screamed and my SIL ran into the kitchen and saw the rat had run into this sticky thing and it couldn't get away then. SIL took an old cane of mine that I don't use anymore and killed it. The thing is, that rat was so frightened it was screaming when it knew it was getting attacked. It really bothered me that it was screaming so scared... I don't like mice and I don't like rats... rats had chewed through the electrical and water system in our refrigerator and it cost about $160 to get that all fixed.... so I definitely don't want rats in the house. But... would it bother you that an animal was screaming ... even if it is a pest like a rat?

Yes, it would bother me and that is totally understandable. If we didn't kill rats and mice our world would be overrun by them (in some countries where reincarnation is popular they actually are overrun by them of course). That doesn't mean I like the thought of causing something pain. But if the traps didn't work...you had no other choice. My parent's neighbor had mice and he had to call an exterminator. He killed TWENTY himself with traps. My parents set out traps after my dad had a early morning run in with a bowl and mouse. He caught two of them. The traps killed them instantly. They haven't had any more and they think the neighbor getting control of his home fixed the problem. Apparently, the guy had been keeping a lot of dog food in his garage or something.

I wouldn't want to hear any animal scream but i would do most anything to get of a rat or a mouse. I could not live where there were rats in my house. HORRIBLE!!!!

It seems like we might get rid if tbphem and then mire come, but not sure. We have tried so hard to get rid of them. I've only seen one at a time so maybe that was the only one. But I doubt it. They have been in the dig food before. We started putting dog food in a container with a lid.

Who does like Rats or mice? Seriously, I do not think there is anyone unless they have them as pets. But to catch one and then to hit it like this and to hear it scream like this would be nerving. Makes you almost feel Sorry for them. I just am glad the worst we have had to deal with in our house is mice, and they are Bad enough.

It about drove me insane.. I was so sorry for it.. to me it wasn't any different than a cat or a dog screaming while it was getting clubbed. I know they are a pest and I'm glad it is gone.. but at the time, it really did bother me a lot. I won't even touch that cane.. it was given to me by a friend, but since it has been used to kill things with I won't touch it.

Hi PQ. I don't like rats either...actually, I'm scared of them. So saying, I think those sticky things are just terrible. The way I see it, if you have to dispose of an animal by killing it, you have to do so in the quickest most humane way possible. Rats still feel fear and pain and it would make me sick to my stomach to hear the rat screaming and to witness something like that and I would feel incredible guilt for not stopping the person doing the attacking.

Well, we haven't had anymore rats since then.. so that must have been the only one. No rat turds around no nothing... I can leave bread out on the counter and no holes in it the next day.

I do hate rats.
I never want them in my home. I don't even want to have a sight of those ugly pests. They are so dirty and can't stand them. I'm glad there are no rats in my house. I would surely do all things to exterminate them should they invade my home. They spread disease and damage just about anything at home like what you experience they can even chew the electrical and water system of the refrigerator. They can also chew your important documents and even your paper bills.

Oh believe me, I know. Many years ago I was typing up my brother's hand written document. I had his manuscript in a drawer. I kept hearing something that I couldn't identify, and never could find where the noise was coming from. Then finally, I decided to get the manuscript from the drawer to work on it some more and it was totally confetti. The rats had chewed it all up.
They have put a hole in the wall and we boarded that up. We got to put more poison out I guess. Trouble is, we can only put it in certain places where our dog won't find it and eat it.

We found one way and closed it. They may have other ways in that we don't know about.

Thawould bother me too if I heard it screaming for its life. That thing would have to go though. Rats are very pesky animals. They are nasty, destructive and carry many diseases. I'm glad you all got it. How in the world did it get in the house or do you know?

Hi Steph
We kind of live in the country. There is a forest right behind us. I'm not sure where they come from but think it might be from the woods behind us.

It would bother me to hear a rat scream, and I don't like to kill any animals, but I would kill it anyway. I really don't want to share my house with rats. We haven't had any problems with rats in the house where my husband and I live, but my parents had a serious problem in their home some years ago.
One day my father said to my mother: "I saw a big mouse in the laundry room" and my mother wasn't that worried about it, because they had had mice before and they had always managed to catch them. One day my mother discovered the animal in her laundry basket and she screamed: "Oh my God that isn't a big mouse, it is a rat!" Unfortuneately she was right, it was a rat, there wasn't just one there were lots of them
It was hard to get rid of them and expensive to replace the things that they had damaged. I don't want to go through the same thing. I wouldn't find it easy to kill a rat, but I would do it anyway.

Same here. I would just walk in the other room or go outside until it was gone so I would not hear it. It has to go, so I would eventually get over it but I know how pointlessquestions feels about that. You feel sorry but you know it cannot stay.

Oh my it would terrify me to see a rat and or mice and to hear it scream would freak me out as well. I don't know what I would do if I had one on a sticky thing like yours, I would have to call for help to be able to kill it.
But while they are killing it and or getting rid of it I would run so fast as this I could not see.
If I was forced to see it in action, I think I would be screaming louder then the rat.

I know what you mean. I don't want any rats in my house, but I don't like killing them either. When we were cleaning this house up to move into (it hadn't been lived in in 8 years by then) I opened up a drawer to clean that out and there was a snake skin. I screamed bloody murder thinking it was a live snake. The women helping me were screaming too when i screamed... not even knowing what I was screaming about!
