Do you run your own business?
Can you share what your line of business is and was it easy to set up and is it worth running etc.
I'm being very nosey here.
I do private cleaning for people, I have quite a few houses to clean and I have good people to work for and they pay on time etc.
My business started work word of mouth, somebody asked me if I knew anyone who did cleaning, I said yes me and I started cleaning and via word of mouth I have got all my jobs. I do enjoying cleaning other people's houses and I do still keep my house nice and clean.

No, I don't run my own business. I am retired and on SSD because I have severe depression with panic attacks. I am a freelance writer which I feel is sort of a self employment gig. You must be very energetic to clean other people's houses and keep your own up as well. I am not sure I could.

I think free lance writing is very good, I would love ot do more writing but never seem to sit my bottom on the chair to write anything to sell, always have good ideas and intentions!!!
I also suffer panic attacks, not nice, hope you are feeling well today.
I like cleaning other people's houses ...... and the money that it pays!!

You have to be some what disciplined to write. I can't do it right now. Getting into SAD and sleep all the time. Panic attacks are no fun. I am on meds that really help. I don't clean my own house. My daughter does most of it. I do the bathrooms so I know they are done the way I like them to be. hehehe

That's awesome. It's so nice when someone gets business by recommendation instead of by pounding people with marketing lies!!
I wouldn't really call my freelance writing a business, since it's just part-time, but it is regular and enjoyable. It took a fair bit of setting up, mostly because I didn't have a clue what I was doing with online stuff back when I started - I suppose that's more of a "learning curve" issue than actual startup difficulty, though.
Wish you lived on the south coast. I hate cleaning.

Cleaning is a big business in our country too. My sister engages a cleaner once every 2 weeks and she is employed for four hours to do whatever my sister tells her to do. She is paid on an hourly basis. Her days are filled and she works during the weekends as well.
Many people work during the weekdays and want to spend time with family over the weekends rather than clean the house. For me, I don't have the extra money to pay the service, so I will have to do it myself over the weekends.
I would want to start a business, but it must not be strenuous because I still have my current job. If possible, I would want to start something online. I'm going to brainstorm for ideas with a friend very soon. Hope we can get started on something fast. We are getting old.

Wow, that is nice. I had a line of business before with a couple of friends of mine, but it wasn't that success though. My friend start cheating on us on money, and the earning, we sell shoes by the way. Then we have this huge conflict of interest, and later on, we just split, and didn't work on that business anymore.

That is excellent. Cleaning business has many good possibilities, residence, offices, and so on. Very good that you ventured into the business. I don't have any business of my own yet, but I have been thinking about it. I have been working for a company doing import-export business. That is a very good line of business too. I might one day start a business of my own in the trading sector.
Best wishes to you !

Hi ya Anne18
No I don't run my own business and I don't think I would want to. I do see the advantages of working for yourself but I also see the disadvantages. I would be worried that because of the state of the countries economy at the moment that at any time the business could fold and also the hassle of having to deal with paying taxes and national insurance. I have no clue what sort of business I would be able to start anyway, cleaning would be no good for me because I hate it haha

I have always been in management and administrative sitting at desks. Although after I moved to this part of the country in very small cities and towns, the pay was so poor in the fields where I wanted to work, that I went to work at a company doing phone sales. I did quite well at it for about 8 years, and as I was going to move up the road about an hour, I decided to work my own business doing the same thing at home. I sold safety and traffic supplies to municipalities until the deaths in my family, depression and economy took a dive.

Good on you for running your own business!
I just set up mine a few months back. It's online, and I sell a few things. It's targetted for specific hobby enthusiasts so there is a market that I (still am trying to) get into.
And I'm doing this with all the paperwork, and licenses so that come income tax filing time, I could get a few credits.

You're doing good. But as time goes by, as you gain more clients, you will find it harder to do it all by yourself. Do you already have some staff helping you? If not yet, be ready, for in the future you may need to hire some as your client base expands.
