vegetables being sprayed :-(

In my country , vegetables are being sprayed with many kinds of poison : poison against bacteria , poison against worms and many more... in fact , there is a laboratory well known as "Bactochem" in my country and they have a website. They published the american standard of chemicals amount that are the maximum allowed in every kind of vegetable. I saw so many different names of chemicals starting from A to Z... some hundreds of names. When I buy a vegetable in the supermarket , I can't tell how much of every chemical it contains and I can't wash the poison away. It is starting to freak me out. Every thing is poisoned and the damage to our health is accumulative. I try to pick as many fruits as I can from trees that are not sprayed but ,there is a limit to the amount of fruits there are ... Are you aware of the poison ? Does the supermarket publish the information about it ? Would you take some vegetables to a laboratory to check the poison leftovers to see if it has too much ?

I am very much aware of the poisons they use to grow our "food," so I eat organic as much as I can. I also have a garden and a couple of fruit trees and a new grape vine which I hope will produce well. Another thing I do is eat seasonally. We don't need watermelon shipped in from heaven knows where when it's not watermelon season here. When I eat seasonally, I can buy up fruit and vegetables from local farmers who, while not certified organic, raise their crops naturally without poison. I can or dehydrate that food so I have it during the winter when it's only available through the stores.

First of all , thank for all of you who answered , I'm happy i'm not the only one who is concerned about sprays. It looks like the only good fruits are the ones we pick up from trees that were not sprayed at all... Isn't there any office at the government that people can ask for the information about the sprays ? I see the vegetables on the shelves at the super market with no any name of the company where they came from , like there is no momy and dady to the crops. No any signature and no packing at all.

I don't know if there is there or not. Here in the US, our government requires those who sell organic produce (with nothing but natural pest control) to pass certain tests and to pay for a certificate. It seems to me it should be the other way around... that those who use poisons should have to pay for certificates and pass tests for safety. Here, most produce is sold under brand names, unless we buy at farmer's markets or roadside stands.

Can you actually buy vegetables in a package that has a signature ? In my country there is too few of it , espacially not in regular markets and nor super markets. I can actually pass my finger on the cabage and see i'm cleaning some grey material from it. It makes me wonder what it is. Today I picked a guava from a tree , it smelled really good , but , alas , it had many worms inside it , so I took a really small piece of it with no sign of a worm and threw all the rest to the garbage. Dam worms ...

In my country we don´t know how much pesticide is used. Some products are labeled "organic" at the super and cost a lot more. But when I started on chemo, my doctor forbid me to eat any raw veggies, except the ones that I grow at home. I don´t use pesticides, so I can have access to lettuce, arugule and chives.

That's for sure , I remember you told that and no wonder doctors forbid eating sprayed vegetables for people who do chemotherapy. I want to grow vegetables at my garden too , I will start looking for some information about it , maybe some discussions can tell me some.

I have learned a lot about growing veggies at the web. There are sites with step by step instructions, with pictures and videos. It´s amazing!!!

i've seen the average levels of pesticides that are left over in fruits and vegetables. it really depends on the type. you could probably find it online if you searched. they recommend buying organic fruits and vegetables for some. from what i can remember onions had the least amount of pesticides left over. grapes were not that bad in pesticides when compared to other fruits.

No need to go to the lab to check the level of chemicals or treatments that your veggie has . All you need to do is just buy a reliable Vegetable Wash to clean those chemically treated veggies and fruits to be safe to consume. Our family used only one dependable product from Tiens which is called Veggie Wash. You can clearly see how the veggies turn crispy and fresh after washing it and you can see how it washed off the chemicals so that you will only consume fresh fruits and veggies, I suggest you look for that brand.

That's may be true , but many fruits and vegetables are also consume poison inside them , taking it from the roots with the water from the ground... cleaning the surface cannot help always , only if they spray the poison and not feed with the poison.

instead of poison, just call them chemicals, in everything we do now from eating to working in our job we use things with chemicals or other things that are harmful for our bodies which is the reason of our shorter life spans than the guys when technologies isn't innovated yet. So dont be afraid of such thing, the air you're inhaling is quite dangerous too in some ways, you breathe air more than you eat food in a minute.

my friend, may be we are in same country, not just what you said,I also worried about genetically modified feed and crops. As advance in technology, more and more genetically modified products flooded the market,it require production continues to increase,But it ignores the quality and safety, since most genetically modified products are for human consumption,so i think that national authorities must be strictly, and to enact strict laws to limit the possible impact on human health of genetically modified product.similarly, for harmful pesticides and fertilizers should be strictly limited, the quality of food will affact the people's physique, even the healthy development of the entire nation, only to have a healthy happy life and body to work hard,if not healthy what is healthy?NEED to improve not only the government's surveillance efforts,as well as the professionalism and business ethics.overall i think the rapid development of tecnology must be backed by high ethical standards, otherwise it will be a serious malformation of the social patterns.

Yea , that's a big other issue with the industrial growing itself. There was a book I read last year called "the celestine prophecy" and it said that there were some researches about growing crops individually with care and love makes them more healthy. But it was a part of the story and I don't know how much it is true. As about surveillance , it looks like the only surveillance comes from investigation tv programs with hidden cameras and they do it too few. Only then , the health office makes a respond for the article and that's how it ends...poor situation :(

I too am getting concerned with the chemicals used. I have started being very careful with washing melons before cutting and washing everything super thoroughly. I have somewhat given up eating the peelings of some veggies because I don't know how much chemical was absorbed..that's a shamne because the peel often containts the most nutrients...
