Do you agree that WWE is a soft opera for men?

For my husband, it is. I often ask him why he watches World Wresting Entertainment (WWE). He said it is fun and it is interesting to follow the stories though he knows they're all scripted. Really funny for me. I do not watch WWE. If it is scripted, I am fooling myself.

Hmm... I don't really know what is meant by 'soft opera'. But I do believe WWE is scripted. I don't watch it either because it's not the kind of story I'd like to follow. Uhm... I don't know... maybe some people just like those types of stories... But story aside, if I were to point out one thing remarkable about the people involved in the thing, it's the skill they have in doing the stunts. Because what they're doing isn't exactly easy, I think. It takes skill and practice. To be able to do those stunts, do it believably, and at the same time, avoid getting hurt and avoid (really) hurting each other. I've never tried asking those who watch it if they think it's real or not. If they think it's not real, that's fine with me. What worries me is if they think it's real. Because if they do, and they try to imitate it, they could end up hurting somebody, or getting hurt themselves. Definitely appropriate to say in this case: Don't try this at home. These people are professionals.

it is like an idiomatic expression for 'drama series'. for women, it is reality stories, or the gossip ones, or the soap boxes. it is not an easy feat as i said, some of these WWE performers get hurt, with blood even.

I have seen a few documentaries that say it is scripted, and I have seen a few that detail how some of the visual affects work. It's a form of entertainment, just like movies and production TV shows. Sometimes people get hurt doing it, but that can happen in any form of entertainment. For example, the 4th most deadly nightclub fire occurred in Rhode Island when people gathered to see a rock band (entertainment) perform at the Station nightclub.

i watched a series on tv that tells of how it could be dangerous, too. it is purely entertainment and is scripted but it is not an easy feat. however, that did not make me a fan either.

I used to be a fan of it years ago, even went to a few live matches, but the lure of it soon faded. I don't think I even know any of the people that wrestle on there now. I was in Florida when Randy Savage crashed and passed away on Dale Mabry. In fact I was just on that same road not 4 hours before the incident. Those are the folks that I remember when I used to watch wrestling.

bingskee, Liken to ladies who are a fan of Korean and/or Japanese soap operas, so men like us do have our weaknesses. I suppose it is the adrenalin rush, the action pack moves and most of all, continuations of the ever fight of evil and good. There will be some humorous antics too. As fast as it (interest) comes, the disinterest comes equally fast, once there is a discontinuation or slight disinterest. Sounds familiar?

When I was growing up, this was something that my brother and sister were really into, but I never could get into. The reason that I never liked it is because of the fact that I thought that wrestling was supposed to be a sport and when you would try to watch it, it was much more soap opera than it was sport. That is actually the reason that I would say that I definitely agree with you that WWE is a soap opera for men.
