Life with Migraine

Life is tough but beautiful. What often makes it hard for me is when migraine attacks. There are lots of things to do and to finish during the day but they are put aside during migraine days. There are so many suggestions to combat migraine but are there some ways to stop it from coming back? Oh I wish there is!

As a migraine victim myself, I can understand how you feel. Unfortunately, there is no cure for migraine. What you can do is to understand what triggers the migraine and try to take steps to prevent it happening for you. For e.g. for me it is the shrill loud noise or flashing lights. That is the reason why I try to avoid driving in the nights or go to music parties or stuff where the music is too loud and blaring!! Cheers! Ram

Loud noise and bright lights plus the spicy foods are what triggers my migraine. But even if I avoid them, the hot climate here in our place is too much. I cannot just lie down and wait for it to subside when there's work waiting. Anyway, thank you so much, Ram, for the response. :)

Of course, for me the frequency is less than once in two months, so if it occurs then I usually take the day off and sleep through it. But if the frequency increases then I would also need to explore other options. Anyhow, all the best in your fight against migraine. Cheers! Ram

You are right about exploring other options. It would be a great relief when it only attacks once in a year or never :) Thanks again!!!

I totally agree with you. I also have migraine and it hurts like hell. It hurts the most during my Pre menstrual period. Oh how I wish there is a cure for it, so I won't be feeling it again. But I guess there is nothing. I just always try to take a rest with the curtains closed, lights off so it won't hurt that much.

I wish I only have it during my premenstrual period also, but my migraine attacks are any days during the month. Taking pain relievers doesn't work. I guess we have to live with it or pray for God's healing instead. Oh, one thing that I tried that could give relief is an ice pack on the forehead and at the back of the neck. Thanks for sharing, mariahhh!

Thanks Yes, I put ice pack on my head when I have migraine, and I also force myself to puke when my migraine is severe. It helps me a lot to relieve the pain.

My sister suffers from migraines. They can give her severe head pain and vomiting. It can take her one to three days to get over having one. I think she has them for hormonal reasons because it pregnancy she has not suffered from them. On a medical program they said the boy got migraine due to the diet he was eating. They gave him a totally different diet. His migraines didn't happen again. I believe stress can make a migraine worse. Maybe you could try to see if the diet works for you. Good luck.

You are right about the headaches and vomiting. By just turning your head, you really get nauseous if you have migraine attacks. Yes, stress is one of the many culprits in giving us diseases or making us unhealthy. Thanks for the advice.

Migraine attacks can be really very hard. There may be different ways to stop migraine attacks. One way which some people have been practising is "mindfulness meditation". Half-an-hour or an hour a day, regularly, at any time convenient, helps stopping migraine attacks. You might want to try that too.

I'd like to try that some time, but the problem is I easily get distracted especially when I am thinking of so many things. Thanks for the advice.

OK. I have a suggestion you might try. Get on a very high protein diet. I have heard that while the body's energy comes from carbohydrates, the brain uses proteins. Feed your brain. Of course, use those glare blocking sunglasses and avoid any known triggers. Getting a full night's rest every night can only help.

That's something new to me - high protein diet for migraine sufferers. Thanks for the suggestion, bird123 :)

It usually goes away when I rest, too, but after a few hours it comes back. I have it on and off for 3-4 days when it attacks. Thanks, Grace, for the response.
