I just curious, if the food price from your nearby supermarket is not cheap enough for you, would you consider to shop those salvage food? I heard someone wants to live in extreme cheap lifestyle, they would rather shop at those grocery for salvage food, which dented can food are always cheaper. The food expiration is almost up, or some believe that if the food is properly stored, even though date is expired, you can still have it in good shape. If you are one of those people who living in extremely saving mode, why not shop for those salvage food, they can save you more money, than regular supermarket like walmart. Visit extremebargains.com, you might find those location in your local area for salvage food.

Some times you can buy food in this manner but you have to be careful like others have said if you are going to serve right away then I suppose it's ok I always look for bargins on paper goods, cleaners stuff like that would be ok to buy at a cheaper price

In my place if it's dented it would mean we have to be careful on buying such product. It might be salvaged from floods because of some storm that hit the town. Some sellers would remove the tags and will sell it. The government has already said not to buy such products as we don't know whether the food had expired already or it has actually been contaminated with bacteria.

As long as it is not dangerous to eat expired food, why not. But if there is a warning that consuming expired food may bring health problem, I'd better not buy it. We try to cut corners on expenditure but later you will have to spend a lot more for medical treatment due to consuming bad food.

So there is a local dollar store in our mall that actually sells these types of food. I have bought some stuff from there but have learned to only buy certain things like the dented cans becasue cereals that are out dated and expried our really not good and i have gotten food poisioning so i wont be doing that again but dont mind buying things in cans and only becasue i think they last longer anyways in cans because i buy canned goods and see that they can last along time in my house. I try to buy thigns that are the ten for tens in stores unless i can find it elsewhere for cheaper of course.
Good discussion to start. have a great day.

I have no problem buying food that is almost expired. I often look at that rack when I go shopping - especially if I will serve it that day. I see no problem with that at all.

Of course I would shop at a salvage store. I do, as a matter of fact. The food there is regulated by the USDA, just like any other place. A lot of it is food that is salvaged from truck or train wrecks on the way to a regular grocery store. There's nothing wrong with it, but insurance won't let them pick it up and sell it as new retail, so salvage stores buy it up from insurance companies (who makes money on this deal?) and can then resell it as salvaged goods.
I don't even think it's extreme to buy from a salvage grocery, it's just good sense.

I would shop for salvage food if it means saving money. My husband is diabetic and I am careful as to what I buy for him. I try not to buy canned foods because most of them are high in sugar. I try to buy fruits and vegatables, but a lot of those are expensive as well, but since he is diabetic I have to buy those items.
