Have you ever noticed that when the forms come into your hands at the end of each year, what you made in black and white always seems so much more than what had to spend each month? It's a terrible trick played on us by numbers and the tax collectors. How could I possiblity have made that in 12 short months? It was so much less each month. I guess numbers will do that to you. 12X equals so much more than $ divided by 12.

Actually, what we made last year didn't surprise me at all when I was able to see it all on paper. But, what was really shocking to me was when I went back through all of my paperwork, it shocked me to see just how much money we had spent on medical expenses. Before having a spouse that went through a catastrophic illness, I would have never thought that only about 20 hospital visits (these were day visits for chemotherapy, port placement and PET scans) would have billed insurance well over $100,000. Thankfully, we were only responsible for about 7.5% of this. We did, however, also have dental expenses, vision expenses and pharmacay co-pays. We spent over 25% of our income last year on medical bills.

Thats because they show you the gross amount earned. Then they show you the net amount earned. It is a numbers game. And the powers to be do give a $hit. The government is like a mafia, if you don't pay your taxes they come looking for you. The only thing they don't do is shoot you. But they will put you in jail for the rest of your life. So, it's better to commit murder, at least you might only get a few years.

Our taxes are quite a bit here. Plus everything else they take out of you. It's nuts but true. Thanks for reminding me. I have to call a bunch of places to ask about printing out our medical expenses. A hospital, anastisiolgist, dentists, etc. Thanks and take care.

When I see the money before taxes that is what shocks me. We earn so much but then a lot is taken out for taxes. Our paychecks just go so fast, they are in the bank and before we know it out again. Makes it hard to save with so many bills.

Not at the end of the year, I see this every month in the paper about my monthly wage. There is the sum of my salary according to the contract, then there are various numbers added and others deducted. The money transferred into my banking account are something different. And years ago when we had a graded tax on all incomes, at the end of the year we owed money to the state.
