I Genuinely Feel Bad About Saying This But...

..I really think some women should be sterilised!
I've just been watching a programme on BBC iPlayer all about social workers in Bristol. It concentrated on one social worker who had a case concerning a couple and their 3 year old son. She would go round to see them as there were "issues" regarding bruising on the boy's arms that had to be investigated. Anyway, it was obvious the little boy was being neglected (oh, and they had a pitbull type dog as well that received more attention than the child) and were living in a very small, 2 bedroom flat that was often full of dog sh*t. The father would sit on the settee staring at the floor whilst the toddler ran riot and the mother would sit in another chair feeling sorry for herself, but she definitely had more about her than the Dad. She was on a guilt-trip for a start. The boy had the brain of a 12-24 month old due to lack of development. It was suggested he was like this because both parents didn't speak until late on. However, neither interacted with him and he didn't even have his own bed until Social Services insisted he had one.
Anyway, the mother got herself pregnant again with all this carry on with the boy hanging over her. She ended up giving birth 2 months early because of health issues - a little girl as it turned out.
Now, why on earth did she get pregnant for the second time when neither parent could cope with the first one?
There is no happy ending with this I'm afraid. The Dad disappeared once the boy went with a foster carer and the mother decided that the baby girl should be given up for adoption as well. Obviously, the baby girl has been adopted already (because she's a baby) but the 3 year old hasn't got a permanent family and probably never will because his neglect at the hands of his parents has left him difficult to live with.
Why didn't they just stick with keeping a dog?

What wicked parents! It seems that their bounden duty is keeping dog and giving birth to babies then getting them adopted. In the eyes of them, the child is inferior to the dog.I do feel for the 3 year old child.

I do too. The poor little man didn't even have a toothbrush because his Dad has never cleaned his teeth (who, incidentally, didn't have many of them) so he thought, "Well, why should he have a toothbrush if his Daddy doesn't have one?"
Incredible, eh?

What they live off? Are they out of job? Why can they afford to keep dog?

I did not understand your first sentence. I agree that the parents were not fit to take care of children, but that goes for both of them. I don´t know why sterilization there should be limited to the mother!
Now I also think that there are other ways to deal with child neglect besides sterilation. Don´t you think?

Both men and women can be sterilised but I´m not sure if we should decide who is to be sterilised and who isn´t. In my own list of men to be sterilised I tend to place pedophiles and rapists. I think child neglecters should be treated in other way.

I hate to say it too but some people definitely should be stopped from breeding...there should be written exams and medical tests for compatibility. It's a huge issue and violates freedom in many ways but when not doing something results in children being abused mentally or sexually, children being treated badly in every way, then it seems to me that it's really necessary.

The new one-parent family that's moved in next door are a nightmare. The mother can't seem to control her kids at all..they sound like they're running all over the house, pounding their feet up and downstairs and one of them keeps picking on the other, making him/her cry at every opportunity. Doing my head in and I'm glad I'm at Mum's next week. The property next door belongs to a housing association by the way and we've only had two decent neighbours out of the LOADS that have lived there.

That's really sad.
I've been to some really depressing areas way back when, and I too couldn't believe how some parents cared (or not care) for their children. I am a parent too so I know how precious children are. And I know how hard it is to raise them. I can't believe how some people get by with just not caring.
I don't think sterilization is the only answer, but I wish the responsibility itself could be impressed upon young people early on. So there would be no deprived children everywhere.

Yeah, I've said this before and I'll say it again. Parenthood is not a right that everyone is capable of happening. I think that one of the best things would be if everyone tends to get temporarily fixed from birth and then after a time, after passing a series of rigorous tests to qualify, they will regain the ability to have children. That would solves so many problems if it was possible. Granted, that doesn't seem possible right now, but with science, you never know what might happen.
And to go to the well the second time, yeah, that was even more stupid. You need a license to drive a car, but anyone can have children, which is one of the more baffling mysteries of life to say the very least. There are many more cases like this out there then I care to remember, perhaps the story is a bit different, but there are just many people who just never should be allowed to have children.

One of the reasons why I've not bothered having children is that 1) I don't particularly like them and 2) this island is over-populated and has been for quite some time. To bring more babies into the world - a world that is skint - just doesn't make any sense to me.

Some people insist that all married couples should have children. And if they have one, everyone jumps on them and says "Oh you do not want to raise and only do you?" and so they have at least two, and maybe more. Or they are too lazy to do anything to keep from having children. However, we cannot legislate who is allowed to have children and who is not, because that is discriminatory and can lead to things like genocide. It is a hard life. The little boy may just match up with a special family that has in their hearts to help people who are misfortunate in that way.

I didn't mention this in my initial discussion (and in hindsight, I should've done) but it's the system of adoption that's flawed in this country. I know it's imperative that the child is protected at all costs but the PC Brigade have made it virtually impossible for genuine, loving would-be parents to adopt. The present Government is addressing this issue but I don't quite know how they are going to change things.
Also, foster carers get paid a lot of money to look after children so, naturally, they are reluctant to become adopters, as the money dries up then. This is wrong in my view and the whole system needs an overhaul if we want to re-home youngsters that just want a hug, someone to play with, a bed to sleep in and food to eat.

Mmmm...good point although the dog did look better fed than the child.

Well, the mother is on her own now as she's moved away from the area the father is in (apparently, he hit her) so she'd be extremely stupid to get pregnant again, in my opinion as we all know what will happen don't we? I know I'm being cynical but some people aren't cut out to be parents, even when support is out there for them. If their brain can't take in the information given what hope is there? None.

Should it really be "Sterilized"? I think the greatest solution to that is on how to be responsible enough. Why we woman would always bear the consequences of it. I think it should not only be us, but it should be the men too.

I'm not saying the guy was an angel (far from it) but I really think the woman should be prevented from having any more children. She said herself she's not capable of looking after them. Even with the guy off the scene she was expected to look forward to being with her kids but she went the opposite way and said, "No, I can't do it, I want them adopted."

So if the women get sterilised.. what will do with all those men?
You know the kind that is making women pregnant time after time, raping them, raping little kids etc etc. Castrating sounds good to me!

I'm glad you said that and not me lol. But, actually, I agree because the bloke was a waste of space as well!

I don't think they will going to get it that they have no skills to look after a child~
