Just introduce them to music outside of their little comfort zone. My boss grew up a jock and admitted to listening very little to music through is teens.(70's). Good lord..can you imagine being a teen in the 70's and music not being a huge part of your life?? His parents listened to the typical Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra..a little Elvis, maybe. He got married out of highschool and his wife was strictly country. That is what we have to listen to at work...country. Don't hate it but not a big fan. Well, let me tell you, we got talking music and I introduced him to rock. We started exchanging music via e-mail. It took a bit but eventually he really got into it and I mean REALLY got into it. He went out and purchased a very pricey sound system that I would kill for! His wife complains but he is really having so much fun just exploring. This guy hadn't even heard of Joe Walsh or Dire Straits!! He loved the song Dream On but thought that Led Zep did it! I've been having fun introducing him to all the zillions of bands out there. I listen to such a variety that I have really been having fun with this. He swore that he would draw the line at rap. I reminded him where his "line" once was.

I have to say that I have been having as much fun with this as he is. I am not musically inclined except for my ears. My brother plays guitar and plays in a local band. I thank my father for my deep love and appreciation of music. When I was 5, I caught on fire...burnt my legs...my fault..being a dumb kid..Anyway, I was not able to walk for months. My dad got me a record player and gave me a bunch of his 78's (is that right?) And then he got me a little transister radio. Also read to me a real lot so my love of books and music runs deep. I was so into music that when the Beatles first played on Ed Sullivan, he woke me up and brought me out to see them. I'll never forget it. I was 6. My mother was furious. I have to admit, I wasn't overly impressed with him either. I was 6 and he was so enthusiastic about them. I was 6! I was looking for cartoon characters! Didn't take me long to fall in love and from there it was pretty much everything and not just rock and pop. Love it all. We listened to each other's music. I was 14 and listening to Alice Cooper when he bought me an Al Martino record for Christmas. I wasn't very impressed but have to say that have a few listens, I did like it.

Good on your dad! I know you didn't think much of it then, but I bet you love that he did it now!!
