Ahhh, payday; how the mighty fall

As a lot of us know, Wednesday was payday. Since I don't live in town I go in and stock up for the month with people food, dog food, and cat food. We usually leave around ten a.m. and get back late at night because of all the stops and the amount of supplies we need to get. Last Wednesday was no exception. We got home around 10 p.m. and were really too tired to haul stuff in the house, but there was perishables that needed to go into the freezer and fridge. So, since Bill still had to take care of his stuff, I was carrying waaayyyy too much stuff each time I went from the car to the house. I knew better but what the heck, I could handle it....NOT!
I had my hands filled with bags of canned dog and cat food when suddenly I was face down on the floor. The first thing that went through my mind, as soon as it dawned on me that I fell, was that I popped my boobs! I landed hard on them, and I figured that they took most of the shock from the fall. Well I was wrong. It's four days since I took the fall and I am still finding new aches and pains. I wasn't hurt when I fell, no broken bones, but I still thought since I fell on my front I wouldn't hurt the way I am right now. So much for thinking. Of course it didn't help that I fell on an empty cat food can that Abby had fished out of the trash. It was flattened! I guess I need to stop thinking I'm invincible and slow down. I'm just not that kind of person, I was raised to be a rough and tumble tom boy that would pitch in and help out where ever help was needed. I can rebuild an engine, dig holes and trenches, plumb, do electrical and construction work with the best of them. I just don't realize that I am a "lady" and should act like one; until now.
How bad was your latest fall? Are you rough and tumble like I have always been? I even rode motorcycles- both street and dirt riding in both California and Montana. I could out ride the best of the guys. Did you have to change your lifestyle? Did you accept it or fight it all the way? Ouch, a new pain just surfaced...so much for rough and tumble!

I haven't had a bad fall in a while. Last summer I stepped on the edge of the sidewalk and went down, but I really knew I wasn't hurt - just laying there recovering when the roomie's niece-in-law found me on the ground and wanted me to get up.
She'll learn.
Yeah, it took some pretty hard knocks before I had to give up and start taking better care of myself.
You know that saying: "If I hand known I was going to live this long, I'd've taken better care of myself"?
Well, its true!

It's pretty bad when you look back and remember all the falls, and horrible accidents we have with our bodies and all the stupid lifting etc we do when we were younger and then realize that this is what is making us so crippled now.
I don't know why people feel that as soon as they find you on the ground that you should get right up. When I fall it takes a few minutes to assess if there is any severe damage to my body and I really don't want to get up until I have finished the assessment. My first assessment Wednesday night was to check to see if my boobs were still full of air. I was sure they were flattened! LOL. It happened so fast that I didn't have time to try to catch myself, which saved me from serious injury. If I had tried to catch myself I would have ended up damaging my knee.
It sounds like you and I have had to take those hard knocks to get it through our hard heads that we need to take better care of ourselves.

Oh no, I am glad you are okay...You know, I can't remember the last time I fell, I am pretty cautious, even though I do a lot of crazy things like dancing in my kitchen..lol But I do know that when I fell in the past, I think, "This isn't happening" as my arms/legs do everything to stop it, so yeah, I fight it all the way..

It sounds like you are pretty careful when you're out and around. The only dancing I do now days is dancing around the cats when I'm in a rush to get to the bathroom. I do have to do some fancy steps to get around three cats who want to know "why" I need to rush to the bathroom so quickly, and how come I don't use the litter box. Willy gets up on the toilet seat and peers down as the water goes down that magical hole...he can't figure out why the litter box doesn't do that when he buries his stuff.

I have been dancing for over 15 years now, and though I may have fallen a few times since then, because of my dancing, if I am about to fall, I can balance out my body..Now if you asked me this same question 15 years ago, I probably can tell you the most recent fall I took...
I also dance around two 50 pound dogs, so I can relate to that kind of dancing as well..

I do not remember falling for about the last nine months. Last May I tried to ride a bicycle and I did fine until I stopped in our gravel driveway, then it fell with me. It took me a while to get up, because I was so out of shape at that time. Had some bruises. Thinking of bruises reminds me that I did have a near miss in December. I was blowing off some steam and took a walk at night with some snow and ice around. I tripped, stubbing my toe that had surgery two years ago and doing the stagger forward till I fell in the snow. My toe, on the right foot still hurts, as does my left knee, which kissed the ice covered ground. Teach me to be mad.

I usually get hurt when I get mad. I try hard not to get mad at things in my life for that reason! Did you get the toe checked? Toes are really easy to break and rebreak.(I speak from experience. I have had more broken toes than I care to admit!) You might have also bruised a nerve which takes forever to heal. I've done that too, and months later the nerve is still complaining.
Take care of yourself! You would be so missed on the Lot if something happened. I did develop new ways of venting my anger. I would break dishes that I wanted to use for mosaics, clean house, or cut wood for the fire place. Breaking dishes is how Bill and I got together. So I still keep a few on hand for breaking for romantic reasons.

Since my joint is now titanium, it is most likely just a bruise. I was not as much mad at something, but anxious and so behaving in a mad way, if that makes any sense. I think it would be interesting to hear how you and Bill got together and also, if you could post something you have done in mosaics. I have saved my broken stuff, but only have done one.

Ouch. Falling like that hurts no matter whether you're the "rough and tumble" type or not.
You do need to be more cautious about that stuff. The next time, you might sprain or break something.

I did break something.. the cat food can was totally flattened!
I do have to be really careful since the replaced knee isn't working as well as it should. The physical therapist is recommending that I see about having it replaced. Yeah right, like I don't have anything better to do with my life than lay in the hospital with my leg packed in ice having some physical therapist come in the next day and start bending my leg in ways it didn't bend before. I keep my cane with me at all times and use it constantly except when I am in the house and have counters to use for support...humm, I just saw something wrong with the picture! I do know what you mean though, as just after I had the knee replaced in 2009 I fell on my fanny and suffered a compression fracture of the L1 vertebrae. Talk about pain! I sat for a minute then fell over in excruciating pain. My boyfriend wanted to help me up immediately which wasn't what I wanted to do until I knew I hadn't done more serious damage. The pain was so bad that I was sure that I had crippled myself and wouldn't be able to walk. Fortunately it wasn't that bad, but it sure hurt that badly!
I promise I will be more careful from here on out. When you get older falling isn't as funny as it was when you were a kid. I ain't a kid no more.
