we have heard so much about accounts getting hacked. money getting stolen from banks, sleepless night. and then setting up new accounts. so how you ensure ur password is unique and most importantly safe?

I try to make my passwords as hard to guess as possible. Using long and rare combinations of letters and number and symbols is a good way to keep it safe. Also, entering it only when the specific site ask for it and not in any strange email or so is another basic measure we can take. For ultimate protection, you can use a randomly generated password from some program or website, that are almost impossible to guess and mix all kind of characters. So far, I'm satisfied with my password's security.
Actually, passwords are rarely, if ever, hacked. Most times, they are guessed because are so easy, like 123456 or abc123, those are the first things anyone would try to gain access. Sending phising emails or spyware to unaware users is another quite effective technique. Generally, it's more common that the victim gives voluntary his password to the attacker without knowing than the attacker getting the password on his own.

A secure password:
1) Should contain a minimum of 8 characters but preferably more
2) Should be a mixture of lower case, upper case, numerals and symbols
3) Should not contain dictionary words or personal information (such as names or dates)
4) Should not be written down in any form which is readily readable or accessible to anyone else (preferably, it should never be written down at all)
5) Should NEVER be shared with anyone, even those you trust and if, for any reason, you need to give someone in authority use of your password, you should change it immediately the legitimate use has finished.
6) Should be unique to the site it belongs to and no site should have the same password
Very few people abide by ALL of these rules but you should observe at least four of them.
Strong passwords which are, nevertheless, fairly easy to remember can be constructed in a number of ways. One good way is to take a phrase or a quotation of 8 or more words and to use a system (known only to you) to construct a password by taking the first or second letter of each word, alternating first and second letters or any other code system which you can easily recall.
Once you have a string of 'random' letters, replace some of them with upper case, some of them with numerals (a=4, e=3, i=1, o=0, b=6 or 8, g=9 and so on) and some of them with symbols (a=@, h=#, l=£, s=$, etc.)
You may, if you like, write down the original quotation but NOT, of course, the actual password, then all you have to do is to remember the coding system you used. This should make it relatively easy for YOU to recall the password but very difficult for anyone else to do so and virtually impossible for anyone to find the correct combination out of the trillions available. Given an 8 character password composed, as above, from a selection of around 85 characters, it would take a fast computer checking 1000 combinations a second around 40,000 YEARS to guess the correct combination!

My password is usually eight characters. I mix both words and numbers. I also have 4 capital letters into it. I only use the same password over and over again in different websites. Its hard to remember if you have multiple passwords.
