Hello, MyLotters. I have a problems with my sleeping habit. I tend to oversleep everyday. Oversleep is really a bad news. How can I fix it? I tried many times to wake up with alarms, but then I just turned it off without realizing. Do you have any other ways to deal with oversleeping?

Put the alarm, far away from the bed, and still you can hear. When you turn off the alarm, you have to get up and walk. After turning off the alarm, you go to the bathroom. To wash your face and brush your teeth. Then, you go to the kitchen, to make a warm drink. After that, you will not be sleepy. Good luck.

Yeah, oversleeping is bad for your health too- it makes you more prone t some diseases.. You have to have a louder alarm.. 2 alarms to be sure. but i think it is better to have a person wake you up since you can't turn that off.

You're right. I think an 'alarm person' is better. I hope my family will wake me up.

This is why time and time again, I have championed the cause of a strict sleep schedule. You go to bed the same time every day, you get up the same time, with little variation other than for extreme circumstances such as illness. Really that is the only way where you can really curb oversleep, as you need to force to adjust your bodies eternal clock. It is really going to be a tough road to really re-train everything that you know and everything that you thought that you knew. There are just many times where it is really hard to get up and go but I think that once you get yourself going to sleep at the same time and waking up the same time, with a routine, it will be a lot easier. Your brain is trained to be asleep at those times and not sooner or later, but it does take some work.

Can you explain the words 'adjust your bodies eternal clock'?

You should think over your daily regime. Maybe you go to bed too late? This have been my problem for years because I'm a night owl type. If I have an urgent work I prefer to stay late at night than get up early in the morning. But after a couple of working nights I have problems to get up in the morning. If you tend to oversleep you may try to go to bed earlier.

Tell yourself to get out of your bed or ask someone. Am interested in knowing what you exactly mean by "oversleep". are you a lazy person or is your energy level higher at the end of the day? Do you have to encourage yourself to get out of bed or do you need a lot of sleep and sleep so steady that it's hard to get awake at all?

It just that I tend to get sleepy even in the morning or afternoon, and sometimes I'm exhausted for doing small things.

hi Yheart, easy solution, put your alarm clock on the other side of the room where you have to get up and turn it off. make sure you put the back up alarm on... good luck!!!!!

the trick is to put the alarm clock a distance away from your bed, then you physically have to get up and out of bed to turn it off. that should help.

My guess would be that the reason that you are oversleeping on a regular basis is because of the fact that you aren't getting enough sleep. One of the things that I would try if you find that you are continually having a problem with oversleeping is to try to start going to bed a little bit earlier. It doesn't have to be a huge change, just try changing what time you go to bed by just fifteen minutes at a time until you find the time to go to bed where you are able to wake up in the morning when you need to be out of bed.

Well, dear friend, you should know that I have a problem related to yours. Also I have the distinct impression of oversleeping in the span of 24 hours of the day. I, however, when, having no commitments, of first order, I do not involve any uncomfortable sleeping more, but to me, does not go too well. I say thisalso if, however, that lately, luckily I managed to regulate my cycle sleep / wake, a little better. In the sense that the night sleep an average of 8 hours. Then, however (and this is a habit which I just can not resist!), I take my afternoon nap daily about an hour and a half. Do I still have something more to point in my life.

I oversleep a lot...I have sleep apnea, so for me four hours of sleep is the same as six hours is the same as eight....the only difference is, if I get up at four I'm super energetic for an hour or two, then crash...if I get up after six I'm tired and it's hard to make myself get out of bed, but after using the restroom and doing daily activities I'm awake and fine for the rest of the day, and if I try to get up after eight....well, that's almost impossible. I'm groggy and confused and irritable and I can barely function, I don't want to get out of bed, I'll sleep through alarms....if I wait to sleep eight hours, I almost always end up sleeping maybe 12. what I try to do is have my boyfriend get me up, or, if I can't, I have my mom or friend call me. otherwise if I use an alarm I'll just press snooze forever until the last possible minute, or possibly even sleep straight through it.
