Scarves for Christmas/Hanukkah Season

Winter Scarves - Nice, thick, homemade knitted scarves, they're such a joy to knit!

The holiday season is always a busy one and lots of people to buy for, so I'm making probably a dozen or more scarves to give as gifts as more people come into our lives and we're reaching out to more people and forming friendships, so I'm hoping this will bless them, plus the kids will love anything I knit. These are nice and thick so ya, I hope our recipients will enjoy them. I used a new fancy stitch pattern, made the main body 5 feet long (used myself to measure the scarves LOL!) then added tassels to add lengths and to make a pretty decoration,so I'd say these will be just under six feet long. I'm noticing nowadays that people prefer long scarves for some odd reason. But they're also long enough to wrap around the neck as well, so it's not too bad.

I'm glad u like them, and since we're good friends on another site, I was hoping I'd be able to send u one of the scarves for Hanukkah (that is if u feel comfortable with sharing a send-to address). I really enjoy knitting and then seeing a person's reaction once they see their gifts it's so priceless and it makes me feel like I'm worth something in this life and that I can accomplish things despite what people say or think about me.

Why would I use my friend to get money from them? That's wrong. I guess I'm senstive in that way I mean I can't even accept money from a personal friend because she has helped me so much over the years like emotional support and so I stopped allowing her to purchase my knitted dishcloths because so many people take advantage of her and she's not very well, she's in her 70's so I figure it's time that people pamper her and treat her with the dignity and respect that she's been giving to people all her life, so I'm doing that for her now. Bless her soul, she's not too well,in a lot of arthritis pain and such.

My son with a loom-knitted tube scarf - Loom-knitted tube scarf it doubles over automatically and provides extra warmth, fun scarf for kids.
Oh nice I have about seven knitting looms, here's one that I made for my son last holiday season from a small round 24-peg knitting loom,I knitted it in the round so it's like a tube scarf then tied at the ends with tassels, I thought that was pretty neat. It's a really fun scarf to knit for children. I hope to knit a few more in that way this holiday season, I like it because it doubles over and adds extra warmth.

I have 4 round looms and 4 retangle ones i got them in 2 diffrent sets. I like how you made your sons scarf its neat. I did my sisters similer only i keep it open at the bottom and put tasels around the outside. they turned out more like little puff balls.

Wonderful plan. You may get me motivated yet. I have some great crochet patterns for scarves, since I do not knit. It is a very warm gift and the time you put into it is precious.

We go for quality gifts in my family, books, craft supplies, crafted items. I guess I started a tradition with my first grand daughter. I made her a cleaning kit, and bought what they call a lobby broom--a short version of an adult broom with a stand up dustpan rather than children's cleaning tools. Stocked that kit with vinegar spray and baking soda to scrub. Well second grand daughter is turning three this week, so she gets one as well. I got an inspiration for dish scrubbies for them, but it will not happen until the end of the month as I am going to see them. It is a long way from Kansas to Minnesota. I crochet in the car. I am going outside now to pick cherries today.

Cross-stitching makes beautiful gifts, I used to make bookmarks for people with their names stitched into them, then with a square piece dangling from the top as a decoration. I don't have anything now though. I did see finger knitting, and I've tried it but became confused. I think they make a very lacy scarf, and it's a great kids' project.

Ya a gift like this would be the most meaningful if the giver actually made the gift himself, that's what made the gift so special. That's why I'll make something myself instead of going to a crafts store and buying it already made. One fear I do have is that I'll make someone (especially a wealthier person) a scarf it'll be chucked aside somewhere and not worn then it'll be a waste of my time, I hope the doesn't happen with Hubby's aunt who's wealthy.

Since everyone on my gift list usually gets something handmade from me, I've started my needlework and other crafts already too. Those scarves you knitted are lovely. And I have met lots of people that wear "short" scarves, too. Being from PA, most everyone up here just wants to keep warm and those scarves look like they'll do that The love, creativity and care you've put into all of them should bless them indeed! and Bless you, too!

Oh goody, another crafter like myself, I just love meeting with fellow knitters. Have you ever heard of the knitting paradise forum? It's really good for beginners and veteran crafters. I'm in Nova Scotia so we're more accustomed to colder weather. I personally don't wear a scarf, I wear a neck warmer, which would take up a lot less yarn than the scarf would. I bought a couple of neck warmers a couple of years ago, but I want to make them this year for myself out of alpaca yarn.

Those are really pretty! You're way ahead of me, I haven't even thought of what to make for Christmas this year. I can't seem to get excited about knitting during warm weather, though.

I need to get busy crocheting and/or knitting scarves. The local yarn store is collecting scarves for people to have. It's going to be a Scarf Bomb in December.

That is such a nice gift. There is nothing like home made. Furthermore, these scarves will also be useful for the cold weather. Everyone loves a beautiful scarf. For you, it is a creative and healthy thing to do. I hope that you will be able to upload some pictures of these scarves when they are finished. You might consider making some extra ones for sale on craigslist, ebay, consignment stores, church bazaars and other such places. Happy knitting.

I was thinking of selling but so many people already make this stuff so it'll probably not be worth my while and where I life everyone has their favourite sellers locally and they usually only buy from them. I asked my husband's mother and she said it's true that I wouldn't be able to sell them because people are too picky when they buy something.

Hi Masihi, happy to see you again and your projects . Yes i have the same projects to make homemade scarves as gift for the people I love, I will crochet and use knitting loom to make the scarves. I got myself a knitting loom and I watched video tutorials on youtube how to knit a scarf on round loom, knit on a loom is easier than knit using regular needles *sighs* I spent more than 3 weeks to finish the knitted scarf using the regular needles but I did faster when I use the loom. Happy knitting

Straight-needle knitting isn't hard it's just tedious when you do big project, but loom-knitting is easier for me now that I know how to knit the traditional way. I know a few stitches on the loom, I just bought a long loom and am making a big chunky scarf out of it now, it's fun but taking a lot of yarn, though :-p The tube scarf (I posted a pic of that too in this discussion) isn't too bad for yarn, it's a fun scarf to knit for kids and it doubles over so it'll give extra warmth.

This is a wonderful idea. I believe that a gift that is made my the giver themselves is all the more special because of hard work and dedication that are incorporated to the item in order to come up with a great gift. It is so thoughtful of you to consider giving this wonderful scarves to your friends for the holiday season. This inspires me to make my own gifts as well. Thank you for sharing.
