Ron Paul quiets his campaign - 'was' it worth it?

"Protest" campaigns usually gather up 10-15% of a party's faithful to make a strong point at the convention. Is Paul's campaign "just a protest campaign"? The Paul campaign seems different in that it makes specific points and calls itself a movement that is bigger than the candidate. Is it? The libertarian issues will always be there - is the Paul campaign bigger than the 2012 campaign? And after millions in expenses... is it worth it?

He has not dropped out of the race. Don't know where you heard it but its not true. Trust me, I am a volunteer on his campaign. He will not drop out before the convention. And yes it is worth every penny. He is right...it is about more than the election. It is a movement.

Lil, it IS kind of confusing. I mean, what is he doing if he's not dropping out or suspending his campaign? I forget the exact words they used when it was reported on TV but it certainly sounded like he'd ended his campaign for all intents and purposes but then I keep hearing and reading that he's still in. His campaign has brought attention to libertarian idealogy and how it can be applied to some of the issues of the day. It's also very likely that Ron Paul has inspired some of his activists to become political candidates in the future, and some of them will get elected. When your political views are a bit away from the mainstream, you can't realistically expect big short-term victories - instead you have to take the long view and think in terms of making progress through incremental steps.

He's certainly made the run of the mill conservatives think about a few of the issues in a different light. He's a smart man. I wish the world was ready for libertarian leadership. It's not. People have to be accountable and responsible for libertarianism to work.
