All Dressed to Photograph the Festival of the Arts today

I'm home now, and exhausted after 5 1/2 hours on my feet. I thought it was getting off to the wrong start when after the first half hour I developed a terrible throbbing in my head on the top right. I sat down, not sure what to do or what was causing it. That's why I decided to rest a bit in the shade. While I was resting, I noticed my hat seemed to be adjusted a bit too tight and it dawned on me that it might be causing the pain, so I loosened it. A couple of minutes later, the pain went away. I felt as foolish as I look in my photography outfit. (see picture, which I took in the restroom at the library across the street from the festival at the park. )
I discovered the new camera I bought to be sure I'd have a functional camera if my other camera didn't start charging, was broken. I took one picture to test it, but then I couldn't turn the camera off. I guess the on/off button had stopped working. There I was with a fully extended lens and no way to shut it. Fortunately I had a friend in the art studio across the street, and she kept the camera in her studio until I was ready to go home. I told her the story about my "headache" and she laughed really hard.
What do you think about fashion vs function when dressing for a special purpose? Maybe I could find a way to have both. I think the water bottle made things worse, but I had to have the water, and I didn't want to have to carry anything in my hands, which needed to be free to take pictures.

I have one of those fishing/hunting vests, only mine is just beige, not as pretty as yours. I almost always dress for function over fashion, which is one reason I don't like to go to weddings and such. Hah! One reason I like the sport of golf is that you get to drive a little cart around with all the gear stored in it. Oh, yes, my cart has cupholders, lol.

I used to have a fanny pack with an insulated bottle holder, but it broke. I miss it a lot, since it didn't leave the water dangling from whatever I could hook it to. Since I walk where golf carts won't go and do it to get the exercise, I have to stow everything on my person. That works fine for walks of less than an hour or so where I don't need water and one camera will do. But an all day festival where my car is several blocks away isn't handy for stowing things. Sometimes I will stow a tote of food there and walk back for lunch, but usually the schedule is so full there's no time to do that at this event. I just decided to forego food this time and stick with water. When I'm busy I don't think much about food. I'm with you about weddings, but these days we go to more memorial services than weddings. I think I prefer weddings.

What I like most about getting ready for any occasion is planning. I love travelling and days before I would make a check list of all what is required - fashion combined with functionality! I once purchased a bag which had several sections. I allotted each section for different things but I had forgotten what went where. It was a terrible task for me to look for things. I eventually placed everything together in one section which made matters easy.
Another word for too much planning is 'fiasco'!

Talking about the dangling water bottle it reminded me of my holiday in Europe. I carried it everywhere and my fellow travellers (it was a package tour) did pass a comment or two but in Italy it was so hot that everyone wanted a sip!

That's funny. I normally find that no matter how much planning I do and how many lists I make, there's a likelihood I will forget something I forgot to put on the list. Or I will wake up in the middle of the night before I leave and remember something I forgot to put on the list.
. This year I didn't forget anything, but before the next all day occasion in the park I'd better find another solution for staying hydrated. That dangling water bottle was annoying and was not exactly a smashing fashion accessory.

Makes sense that a tight hat would give you a pain in the head. When I've been on my feet all day wearing lace-up shoes, I find just undoing the laces and doing them up again helps a lot.

I think that it is important to have clothing that we can wear that is functional. Now I don't go out photographing a lot so I don't have an outfit that I will wear when I am doing photogramphy, I mostly keep all of my stuff in my camera bag and I do keep my point and shoot camera in my purse so that I will never miss an opportunity to take a good picture.
It does sound like you did have an overall good day though.

I have not worn this outfit in all the years I've lived here -- about 18. I found it in a little used closet and decided it would meet a current need. Usually my fanny back will carry two cameras. But for an all day event with rechargeable cameras I wanted to take for. As it turned out, only three were usable and only two would take any video. I was down to my last camera before the event was over.

I would think that having a hat that is a little tight would help a headache. I get headaches all the time, especially this time of the year. It all comes from my sinus. I also take some Advil cold and sinus and it clears it right up. And the sun can cause some bad headaches. Well, at least you figured out where your headache was coming from. I love feeling relief so that I can continue with what I am doing.

I don't get sinus headaches as much as I used to, but this headache was much different. It was a pulsing headache in one spot a the top of the right side of my head. I"m glad it turned out to be nothing. For sinus headaches I take an OTC store brand allergy medicine and a pain reliever if that doesn't do it. I also drink lots of fluid and hot tea. When your head aches, it's hard to do anything productive. I'm so glad I don't get migraines anymore.

I think I look funny, Rick. I just couldn't resist giving my friends the opportunity to laugh with me. I do enjoy taking the photos. It's editing and posting them in my writing that I don't enjoy as much. It's work.
