Tonight is my brother prom and I think its nonsense. When I was that age I didn't go to prom - why? Because I had to work to pay bills. I didn't have the money nor the time to waste money to go out for a cheap dinner and dance. My parents are paying his way, as well as the suit and the weekend away. They arnt going to school today because they have to get ready. It seriously takes you 14 hours to get ready? The prom is at a local golf course and is $95 per person for the night. The food is gross at this place I've gone nbumerous times for staff meetings and parties. His girlfriends parents spent $500 on a dress alone and then her hair / nails and all that. I just think its ridiculous to say the least especially since they arnt graduatillcy ng to begin with. Do they actually think they are going to drink? Cops will be swarming around because all schools in the area are having prom. My old job the cops would nail underage drinking when they pulled up in our parking lot.

i saw on tv where girls spend upward of $1,000 on their prom and this is not even their grad! my daughter did the victory lap this year (a year in highschool after graduation to take extra courses or upgrade your grades) and since she missed her prom last year (because her boyfriend broke up with her just before it) she is going this year with a bunch of friends. my daughter got her dress for free (a friend bought it from a upscale used clothing store), we bought her the shoes and the ticket but that's it. she is working off the debt for the ticket and no, no mani pedi or anything like that.

I wouldn't consider it a big waste of money. Didn't you just say "I was really proud of them for being gentlemen"? Was that a waste of money? I don't think it was a waste of money to make the girls feel like queens for the day. Your sons probably really felt good about it and probably enjoyed themselves a lot. And besides, they made their mama feel proud!! Definitely NOT a waste of money considering all the good feelings that it provoked. Sometimes it's not about the money, it's how it makes you FEEL.

What a time to build memories that will be with you forever. Some people love it, some live for it, and then some just do not care for it. The best thing about it is that it is only for one night.

I guess it all depends on how you feel about school and the people you are going to school with. I went to a church function with my cousins instead of the prom. I didn't really have close friends in high school. My high school years were not the best years of my life,. I too had to work to even get through high school so had little time for social activities.

I went to my senior prom and my grandfather paid for my prom dress and shoes, but I had to do what I could to go with the cheapest, atleast with the shoes. Also, I got a room with some friends, my share was $20.00, if I remember correctly i cleaned to get that money from my grandmother. There were a lot of things if I wanted I had to get for myself or do without, but atleast they did buy my prom dress, I was grateful for it. I wouldn't have asked them for the world, it cost nothing to go to my prom.

The only high school dance I ever went to was my Senior prom. I went with my boyfriend and we had a really good time, even though I don't dance lol. I never went to any homecoming dances and we didn't have a junior prom. I'm glad I went though because it's a high school experience that I probably would've regretted missing out on. It was pretty much my class' last school event where we'd all be together before graduation. I didn't stay at a hotel and drink after. I went to my boyfriend's house and we had food and snacks there and just hung out.
