We are the architects of the modern internet
We have created and made affordable home computing
We have come up with most of the cures and treatments for illnesses that have killed millions of people
We may not have sent men to the moon first but my generation has designed the space station
We have begun and forwarded the second industrial revolution where more people work with their minds and computer systems that those who work with their hands
We are the generation that invented roller blades
Electric bikes
Ergonomics
Spinning (cycle and eliptical fitness classes)
We certainly deserve more credit than we are getting and a better darn name than X don't you agree.
Hell they came up with more names for the smurfs or the short guys who hung around with snow white for God's sweet sake.

i dont agree with you - generation X describes us the best - we are the ones who conquered the electronic world - and we receive enough credit for this - generation X is just a name give to us to describe who we are and what we've done! we shouldn't change that!

But what does the X describe? We're not extraterrestrials!

there's nothing wrong with the name. what's important is that this generation made huge innovations to ease people's lives.

so how come the "greatest generation" got awarded to the generation before the baby boomers 10 years ago then. We had already come into our own by then in terms of dramatic tech changes?

Hell I don't even know what age group the generation X is? Am I in it? I am 31. If I am not in it what generation am I?
Personally I think that the GenX sounds pretty darn cool. I vote to keep it. How do you think that the baby boomers feel. I mean most of them are now grandparents yet they are still referred to as baby boomers.

For all your accomplishments and creativity, it seems none of you thought to name yourselves. Come up with a better name than generation x and I, for one, will call you that.
Of course, I should talk, I'm at the tail end of the baby boom generation -- take that phrase and a mind inclined towards bathroom humor and see what nicknames you can come up with.

I'm from the generation before you guys. Careful what you wish for, you might have to live with it. Given the vast intelligence of the people who make up names like that, you'll probably wind up as the Technodance Generation, or something sickening and superficial like that. As though MTV Generation wasn't bad enough...
I'm impressed with the current generation, though. Apparently the marketing geeks can't even find them, let alone describe them. That really is a triumph.

LOL very good response. My fiancee is too and he has some interesting ideas about what my generation is or is not and some of it is not good.

Actually, I've always liked the classification of Generation X. It defined us as a trademark generation. Look at it another way .... when it comes to pirates, X is the signal for the treasure. :)
My kids asked me the other night what that makes them ... I told them generation Y seemed suitable, since their generation spends the majority of the time asking questions anyway, lol.

Good answer! I just think every other generation has a handle that defines them as a group and puts them forth as the generation to ...

My generation X too :) I think that maybe in the future, when we are all around the social security age (that won't be there anyway)maybe there will be a new name for the generation. I think we still have a lot to do yet.
