I love to read. I purchase alot of books from Cookbooks to Historical Fiction and everything in between. I have found so many wonderful sites online that offer free downloadable books. One of my favorite is Bartleby.com. It has cookbooks like Fanny Farmer Cook. It has a variey of reference books. you can search the index by Author, subject or title.
I am currently reading Jane Austins, Pride and Prejudice. It is a free download on from The Harvard Classics shelf of Fiction. It is downloadable with adobe reader.
This lik is the main page

I love to read. It is a way for me to go places that I will never get to go in person.

I love to read. I live to read. Reading is most likely the best way to expand your knowledge. Television and other medias are good sources of information but I don't think that info gained from them sticks as well as if you read it.
Word games such as Boggle, Scrabble, etc. are also wonderful exercises in expanding your vocabulary. I love games in general and word games are probably my favorite.

The truely wonderful thing about reading is that it will take you anywhere. Anywhere that you want to go. I love to read also.

Thanks for the links, I too love to read. Although I don't read as much as I used to since I discovered Mylot, haha. I do read alot on here though. When I was pregnant, many years ago, I had problems and had to be on bed rest. I read a book a day. When I was growing up my favorite book was a cook book. My mom had a gigantic cookbook, I think I made everything in there at least once. I also gained a few pounds too.

There is a great cookbook on the site that I posted. It is one of my favorite cookbooks. The Fanny Farmer Cookbook. I have it in my personal collection. I have had it for years. I have used it so much that the pages are coming apart. Hope you find some good books to read on the site I posted.

That is cool that you can get them for free. It means that they are more likely to be read. For me, however, there is still nothing better than the printed page, preferably nicely printed on good paper. A cheap paperback is all very well but very second-best and why go for paperbacks when you can go to a little second-hand book store and pick up all manner of treasures, some of which have been lovingly cherished and read by someone else? It's almost as if you are reading along with that forgotten owner and being shown all the favourite bits!

I have to admit, there is nothing like haveing a good book in your hand to read. You cant take the intenet to the Doctor waiting area or to the river to sit and read. It is however a great way to read if you have trouble seeing small print or if you have no money to purchase a book with. It can take you to places far away and help to destress, in some cases, as well as a "hold in hand" book.
I am with you about the second hand book. I find alot of good stuff to read at the thrift store.

When I was younger I was a passionate reader. Practically lived in the local library where the librarian would give me new books in my age bracket to read first before they were put on the shelf. I then had to make a short book report. As the years have gone by my eyesight has diminished to the point that it is very difficult....even the computer reading gives me trouble. However, gonna get new progressive specks in the next week so I hope it will improve and allow me mre time to be in myLot.
My favorite choices were History and Historical Novels, Biographic Novels, Political Science, the classics from Europe (translated from the original naturally), mysteries and "spy" stories among other things. As for cookbooks....forget it I HATE TO COOK.

I hope your new glasses help you to read better. I have a new 19 inch computer screen and a magnafier sheet over the screen so I can see to read. I know how difficult it is when you can no longer read like you want. Hope you find some good books on the site I posted.
LOL. So you hate to cook! I love to cook!

I love books too. The only bad thing about reading them on the internet is that you cant cozy up in bed and read them. Unless you have a notebook computer, which I do not have.

How great is that! I have bookmarked this one. I enjoy reading and haven't the time to venture to the local library for books. And then have a problem returning them on time. Who wants to pay money for nothing. NOt me. Thanks for the link!

Glad you liked it. They have a ton of books to download. Dont you just love to save money. Our local library has a couple days each year that you can return overdue books and not have to pay the fee. I tend to use those days to return them. I dont go to the library much anymore though.

I DO love reading. But I will have to admit, since joining myLot, I haven't gotten much done. LOL I seem to spend more time here now instead of my nose in a book.
But I will have to bookmark that page so when I am done with what I have set aside for me to read, I will be able to check it out.
I have thought about looking more into ebooks...but something about sitting at a computer reading seems wrong instead of a book in my hand that I have to turn the pages for.
But I will check it out. Thanks for the website link. :)
