I have a 1 year old Mini Dachshund, and a new 2 month old PittBull puppy. They have stated to me when I got the puppy that they were scared to have a pittbull in the neighborhood. Well, I have had them all of my life, and raised and trained them well. I also have a cat, and am not worried about him also. I have no qualms about her being around my yound daughter or anyone elses. It has been proven, by myself and I am sure many others that you can raise a pittbull not to be violent. Anyway, I assured them she would be aclamated to their dogs, children, and she would always be in her own fenced yard and if they were still scared they should not let their children jump my fence to take the short cut to the park. Well this was about 2 weeks ago, and this morning I found a small dish of what seems to be antifreeze stuck under my fence between my home and theirs. I called the sheriffs Department and they said they could not do anything because I cannot prove they did it, and my dogs did not get into it or get hurt. I am furious! There is no other way it could have gotten there as it is between two fenced in locked yards. The only reason my babies did not get into it is because I kept them in until I could go out with them this morning. I am not sure the exact effects of antifreeze on a dog, but have heard it will kill them. What in the world am I to do now? I will not get rid of my dogs, and I will not allow these people to hurt them. How do you suggest I take care of this? Thanks in advance and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I sympathize on what you feel. I'm an animal lover as well. For the meantime, I think it will be better to keep an eye on your dog. We can't blame them though, even if you say that your pittbull is harmless, who will believe? By the looks of that dog, the built.. it's definitely a fighting machine. lol..

If your neighbors have kids, maybe their kids are the ones responsible for the antifreeze.. it will be better to talk to your neighbors about it.

Call your vet and ask them for it's effect in your dog.:( The effects may not show now, but in a few days.. So, it's better to act now.

I found it before my dogs did, so it was not ingested. I know the rep for pittbulls is bad, but she is just a 2 month old puppy, and she is being raised around their children and animals. It was not their kids, I know for a fact. Their kids love my dogs, and play with them often.

You have every right to have your animals and it make me sick to here someone would try and kill a dog they do have those camera's you put in the woods, and it snap picture of objects there are about 150.00 get one put it where you can see the fence line and catch them in the act. I would be very upset.Good luck and I hope you can catch them before something happens.

you can get video cams that hook to your computer and record what is going on when you are not there. Dang you have sucky neighbors. People are stupid when it comes to pits. We had one that was a big ol baby wouldn't hurt a flea. He cracked me up when it would rain he would sit in the yard and just stare straight up. You could keep them in the house until you get home. I just don't understand people now days. If anything does happen to them I hope you have the dogs checked for foul play. Did you take pictures of the anitfreeze. I know this will sound extreme but if it happens again a dish shows up with anti freeze don't touch the dish pick it up with gloves and put in a zip lock bag for finger prints so if later on something happens to your dogs well someone can look at that. Also make sure you dump the anti freeze out so it doesn't wash the print off

I took pictures and saved the bowl for future reference if needed. I am a stay at home Mom so I have been keeping a really close eye on them. The neighbors children hang out at my house a lot. They get to snack and watch cable here, and their parents don't seem to pay much attention to them. They have been over here on the weekends and I'll have them call over and tell their parents where they are and see if it's okay if they watch a certain movie, or eat or something, and the parents did not even notice they had been gone, nor do they care. If they paid as much attention to their kids as they seem to be my dogs there wouldn't be a problem.

I would do like everyone has mentioned. Get some cameras set them up facing your neighbors. If you can find one that has a sensor that lets you know if someone or something is crossing over to your property would be even better. That way you can catch them in the act.

Or you can let your dog outside and keep a close eye out the window, but not letting your neighbor see you.

If that was antifreeze, I would take the bowl and dump it in there yard and take it back to them saying thanks but here is your bowl back. I think antifreeze also kills grass, but not for sure.

I do hope you can solve this before one of your animals or your kids get's hurt. This is sad. Your pitt is just a baby for goodness sake. Here it's against the law to abuse a animal.

Good Luck.

Let me first say that I love doxy's, I plan on geting one soon. My husband wants 2 pitts, and I respect that, but a little leery of pitts only because I saw our family pitt turn on my aunt and bit right thru her hand. We loved this pitt, but she had to go once she did that.
That was traumatizing, nevertheless, but that could of happened with any other dog. Not every pitt is dangerous. A mutt could be more dangerous than a pitt.
It is true that chocolate and antifreeze can kill a dog or any animal in fact (not so sure about chocolate).
I would have took a picture of the dish, where it was located, and how easily it could have been accessed by one of your dogs. Ask one of the kids, if you are friendly with them, if that dish of liquid is a science experiment, or a bird bath, or kool-aid?
You may be amazed at how fast you can get them to respond.
Make it seem like you tasted what was on the plate, trying to identify it. Then look at the worried look on their parents faces.
That is so evil of them to do. I hope you get to the bottom of this. Who needs enemies when you have neighbors like that??? (btw) I would return their dish to them, face to face.

myLot reputation of 92/100. amafrias (321)   ranked 639 out of 9,764 in dogs  3 years ago

My first thoughts were the same about the dish, and giving it back, but i am going to try and keep it civil for now. I have not asked the children anything about their parents as I don't feel it would be right to involve them in it. I think chocalete is dangerous to small dogs because it speds up their heartbeat too much or something like that. Thanks so much for your response

I agree that a video camera is the best. That is the only way you can have proof. Do you have ASPCA in your area? They might be more helpful than the police. I don't know.

I would put a video camera outside, thats the only way to prove they did it. I went threw the same thing a few years ago, but the neighbor ended up killing one of my dogs and i had to spend tons of money to get the other one back to normal. I also own a pitbull puppy and the mother of the puppy is my dog back home. I think that they are one of the most gentle dogs. But i would really try and get a video camera outside so if they were to do it again you can prove who did it. I wish i could of proven my neighbor did it to my dogs! Good luck!

I have an idea. Why do not you keep your dogs in his fence and put the camera around him or her. If i was in this situation, I would confront my neighbor. It is not a good idea. I know. I have a big mouth anyway. But yeah put the collar on the dog and get a camera somewhere in the fence.

I have had a pitbull before and they are only mean if they are trained to be that way. My baby was a little Angel. That was her name. She liked other dogs and never tried to bite anyone. She barked when someone came to the door. She thought that was her job in life to let us know when someone was around. Most dogs bark when someone comes to the door. I think it is only the was they are trained that makes them mean.

My Pitt is named Angel also. Animals need a job to do. That is what keeps them focused. Angel's job right now is to be a puppy and play, play,play..lol
