My neighbors tried to kill my dogs!! |
|
I have a 1 year old Mini Dachshund, and a new 2 month old PittBull puppy. They have stated to me when I got the puppy that they were scared to have a pittbull in the neighborhood. Well, I have had them all of my life, and raised and trained them well. I also have a cat, and am not worried about him also. I have no qualms about her being around my yound daughter or anyone elses. It has been proven, by myself and I am sure many others that you can raise a pittbull not to be violent. Anyway, I assured them she would be aclamated to their dogs, children, and she would always be in her own fenced yard and if they were still scared they should not let their children jump my fence to take the short cut to the park. Well this was about 2 weeks ago, and this morning I found a small dish of what seems to be antifreeze stuck under my fence between my home and theirs. I called the sheriffs Department and they said they could not do anything because I cannot prove they did it, and my dogs did not get into it or get hurt. I am furious! There is no other way it could have gotten there as it is between two fenced in locked yards. The only reason my babies did not get into it is because I kept them in until I could go out with them this morning. I am not sure the exact effects of antifreeze on a dog, but have heard it will kill them. What in the world am I to do now? I will not get rid of my dogs, and I will not allow these people to hurt them. How do you suggest I take care of this? Thanks in advance and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Great story here on a woman here in California that got a new law passed that antifreeze must have a bitter 10 percet of glycol which tastes bitter to animals and children (otherwise it tastes sweet without it) http://www.hsus.org/pets/pets_related_news_and_events/woman_who_loses_her_dog_to_antifreeze_poisoning_finds_comfort_in_the_law.html. Anyway, maybe you can set up a hidden camera near the place where the bowl was put and catch someone in the act. Someone obviously does not want your dogs there. Until then I would keep strict supervision with my dogs. I know it's a hassel for you to do this and you really shouldn't have to but you should in case someone tries this again. Good luck.

Since you cannot do anything about it maybe what the best thing to do would be to approach your neighbors personally. Let them know what you found and demand an explanation.

54. Gruzzle (293) | 3 years ago | That's quite shocking! With the reports in the news and the hysteria whipped up by the media it's not surprising that they have concerns, but this was a cowerdly and indiscriminantly dangerous act.
Putting a camera out isn't a bad idea but do you suspect they will try it again? If you or the Sheriff had spoken to them about it they might try something different next time. I would suggest that for the next few weeks you make a quick check of your yard each morning before letting your dogs out.
I would say that you should "name and shame" them by letting other neighbours know whats happened, but without physical proof it's just your word against theirs.

amafrias (321) | 3 years ago | Oh I told one neighbor about it in a nonchalant kind of way, and she is the mouth of the street, so it's probably out there by now. I am home most all of the time, so will be on high alert. Hopefully they failed and will not try again. I am trying the approach of trying to get them to accept that she is not nor will be violent. If they are scared of her, she will one day sense this. They do not need to be scared.

amafrias (321) | 3 years ago | What? If anything it's his dogs that bark. Mine hardly ever bark and when they do it's usually while they are running like crazy to get in the house and bark from behind the safety of a door. They are really wusses. We have neighbor dogs that bark all night long, so thats not it, and would give them no right to kill, only report me..
