Should she be picked out of the Air Force? |
|
My husband recently received an email from Military.com about a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force who was relieved of duty due to posing nude in Playboy magazine. Apparently she was wearing her dog tags in a photo while working out and other photos were of her holding weapons, some nude, according to the article. Chances are she will be kicked out of the Air Force. Do you think that she should be kicked out because of these pictures?
She is a 30 year old married woman, with two children. She has been in the Service since 1994, so this is probably going to kill her career. Do you think the military is getting to political? Should they be allowed to relieve her of duty over something that she did in her "free" time, since her husband was apparently okay with it?

1. cherhost (801) | 3 years ago | Well my hubby is in the military and I do know that there was a ton of paper work he had to fill out when he joined. THe only thing I can say about this is that if she signed off on it that she would not do anything like that then yes. That is what most comapanies do when there is a paper trail on you not just the military. But as for me being a civilian NO I do not think she should be hurt by this in any way. She should have not worn her dog tags. What do you think since you started this one nad did not answer it yourself?

2. sweetgirl_k1 (3139) | 3 years ago | My husband was talking about this. I personally don't think she should be kicked out for doing that. If it was something she wanted to do in her free time then so be it. If she signed something saying she wouldn't do anything like that then yes she should get in trouble but I don't think they should kick her out of the air force.

3. rick615 (327) | 3 years ago | this is not about being political. It is about rules and standards of conduct. I have no problem with people who want to pose nude. But you can't do that if you agreed NOT to do something like that when you signed a contract of employment with the army.
I for one am glad there are standards of conduct which are enforced. I just worry that they are not emforced equally. As long as this id done, i have no problem with them relieving her of duty, as painful as that may be. Rules are rules and if you are not going to enforce them, then why have them to begin with?

lisado (983) | 3 years ago | Technically, there isn't anything written that she CAN'T pose nude. It might be frowned upon, but I don't believe it's a written rule.

lisado (983) | 3 years ago | So if I have a job, and get my picture taken with a gun, I should get fired?
| |
|
|
LadyCroft (630) | 3 years ago | Thats not the point Classy56 is trying to make. What she is saying (I hope) is there is a vast difference between posing nude and posing nude with your tags and equipment and advertising the military. It is wrong wrong wrong. I have no qualms about her posing nude in her spare time, but why discrace the military by advertising it like that. People need a higher repect for military than spread on the pages of a boob magazine. Yes she should be booted and dishonored.

lisado (983) | 3 years ago | If the article didn't tell you she was military, you wouldn't have known. Yeah, she was in camis in a few of the pictures, but I could go to any Army surplus store and buy my own. I could buy my own dogtags, if I really wanted to. Not saying that maybe she should have thought about using them in her shoots a little more, but just because a person is wearing cami pants doesn't make them military.

5. MrNiceGuy (2976) | 3 years ago | It is conduct that isn't giving a good light to the military. I think its a bit harsh, but she should have known not to do it. Things like this have happened before, they sign an agreement that they will conduct themselves in a certain way, as a sargeant, she should have known better.

6. usmcprincess (263) | 3 years ago | My husband is in the marine corps. and I know for a fact that he was told that doing something like this whether on his own time or not is unbecoming of a marine. I have asked him if he would ever do something like this and he always says no because he knows full well that he would lose his career. The fact that she wore her dog tags shows that she didnt care that she was going to get caught and maybe this is what she wanted, where I am people do stupid things that they know they will be caught for just so that they can get out. Thye are tired of doing this job, or they do not want to get deployed so they do something stupid to get out of it.

lisado (983) | 3 years ago | She had been in for 12 years, so she had plenty of time to get out, more than once. He was told he can't do this. Where in his contract, exactly, did it say that he wasn't allowed to do something like this? THAT is what I am talking about. What one person deems unbecoming a military member isn't always what someone else thinks. Some people think that cheating on your spouse is unbecoming of someone in the military, but I know many that have and nothing comes of it. That is actually in the UCMJ, but they don't kick people out for it, and often do nothing at all. Why is one rule not enforced but something that isn't technically written in the contract is an offense that is getting people kicked out of the military?

JustSimplyLissa (462) | 3 years ago | Great rebuttal lis.
I don't think she should be kicked out, reprimanded maybe, and only for misrepresenting the Airforce. Not for posing nude. However the 2 are tied together so therefore it would appear she is being reprimanded for posing nude.
The thing I think is sad.. is that no one has mentioned the impact on her children. Would any of you be ashamed of your mothers posing nude? What about your children, would they be ashamed of you? Knowing their friends will see their mommy naked?
Just some thoughts.

lisado (983) | 3 years ago | I honestly don't know. I guess if my mom looked like that I might not have a problem with it. It also depends on their age. If this wouldn't have happened, though, the chance of her children finding out until their older is possible, since you aren't supposed to be able to get copies of the magazines until you're 18. It might not have even effected them, especially right now. I didn't catch their ages. I'm sure it said, but I didn't pay that much attention, to be honest.

lisado (983) | 3 years ago | As I said in another response (made it after you had posted as I didn't see this one then), just because she was wearing cami pants didn't mean she was really active duty. If I had the body, I could have went out into town and bought the same props she used, or online if nothing else, and have the exact same pictures taken of myself. Dogs tags and all can be purchased online by just about anyone. If the article didn't tell you she was really a drill sergeant, you'd have never had any idea. Actually, you'd have probably thought she was full of it if a stink wasn't made by the military because of the way she looks. No one would expect her to really be in the Service.

8. ShadyGrove (631) | 3 years ago | I do not care about her posing nude, but since she emphasized the fact that she was military, and really was, then she should be disciplined for that aspect.
I think that wearing tags, and military clothes is ok if they are fake, but she cannot deny that she is in the military - it was disrespectful to the uniform and service.

|
lisado (983) | 3 years ago | If the article hadn't said she was military, though, how would you know for sure that she was? She didn't deny anything, but if they hadn't put that in the article, would it have made such a big deal? Would anyone have even known it was really her?
