Within another discussion, I mentioned this salad. I served it as part of a buffet meal for a Mother's Day celebration and it was so well-received. I've made it many times since. The dressing has a somewhat sweet flavor but it's cut nicely by the other ingredients. I LOVE strawberries so this one's a winner with me :) Hope someone else might find it enjoyable!
Spinach Salad with Strawberries
1 lb. fresh spinach, washed, dried and torn into pieces
1 pint fresh strawberries, washed, hulled and cut into halves
1/2 cup slivered toasted almonds
Sesame-Poppyseed Dressing:
1/4-1/2 cup sugar
2 tbsps. sesame seeds
1 tbsp. poppyseeds
1 1/2 tsp. chopped onion
1/4 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp. paprika
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup cider vinegar
Combine all ingredients for the dressing in a food processor or blender and process until smooth. Set aside.
Place spinach in a serving bowl. Arrange the strawberry halves over the spinach. Just before serving, pour the dressing over the salad and toss. Garnish with slivered almonds.

Hi thinkingoutloud, I really like the sound of this salad as enjoy strawberries mixed with savouries such as black pepper or salmon, plus I love raw spinach. I'm just really curious though as how to combine the two as they aren't in season at the same time and I would never touch frozen spinach as way too soggy.

I'm quite fortunate where I live in Canada, thea09... fresh spinach is readily available year-round so, when the strawberries are at their best, that's the time I like to make this salad. I agree with you on the frozen spinach... YUCK!! LOL

I make this same salad and it is always a crowd pleaser! I like the fact that you are getting all your vitamins & minerals with the spinach & strawberries pared together.
Here is another recipe that I have tried that I found on All Reicipes. Give this one a try. I think you will like it too!
Spinach Salad with Peaches and Pecans
Cook Time: 10 Minutes Ready In: 20 Minutes
Yields: 4 servings
"Crisp spinach, succulent peaches and aromatic pecans pair with poppyseed dressing in this terrific salad."
INGREDIENTS:
3/4 cup pecans
2 ripe peaches
4 cups baby spinach, rinsed and dried
1/4 cup poppyseed salad
dressing
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Arrange pecans on a single layer on a baking sheet and roast in preheated oven for 7-10 minutes, until they just begin to darken. Remove from oven and set aside.
2. Peel peaches (if desired) and slice into bite-sized segments. Combine peaches, spinach and pecans in a large bowl. Toss with dressing until evenly coated, adding a little additional dressing, if necessary.

Hmmm. Sounds like fusion kitchen mixing strawberries with spinach.
I don“t really dislike spinach, but find it rather boring. But mixing it with it with all the ingredients you mentioned here it must be delicious.
Thanks for recipe.

You're welcome :) I absolutely detest spinach in some ways... LOL... especially cooked into a mash of something green and unappealing. Raw in a salad, though, I really like it!

Funny that you asked this samsonskola! I do lightly toast them because I like the flavor better :) But the recipe didn't specify, so they're ok either way.

Oh we make this all the time. We do it a litle different though. We don't use the almonds. We use strawberrys and feta cheese crumbled on top. Oh my the cheese with the strawberries and poppy seed dressing is fabulous. I thought it was going to be kind of gross before I tried it. Now we have it all the time and bring it when we go to dinner at a friend or families house. It's always a big hit at cookouts.

Thanks for the fabulous suggestion, mari! One of my daughters and I just LOVE feta cheese and I would never have thought to add it to this salad! I really appreciate the tip :) And I agree -- I thought the salad (even without the cheese LOL) would be weird... but it's sooooo good.
