Cat toys |
| |
| What kind of toys do you have for your cats? I recently bought a pack of Zanies rainbow mice, my cat likes them and since there's like 60 of them (got them for $8+shipping), if she keeps losing them, I just keep replacing them with new ones. Do you know of any cat toys that most cats really enjoy? The idea is keeping the cat busy when I'm busy (or out -- although my cat mostly sleeps when I'm not home). Also, they have to be safe for the cats. | | Zanies rainbow mice | | | | |

| | Ah, yes, simple things work too, but I was wondering about toys that cats can use while unsupervised... I can't leave my cat playing with a string, because she sometimes gets entangled and she might suffocate! I know of a cat that almost strangled himself because of this. | | | |

| | Mine get bored with store toys after the first hour. I make what my father did for our cats. Get some clean. old mismatched socks and stuff a few into one without holes - preferably a long tube sock. Get some dried catnip and pour it generously into the sock and knot the end. Shake it good to distribute the catnip thru it. Throw it into the cats' way and watch the action! These usually lat a few weeks and then make another. Cheap, too. | | | | | | |

| | I did the sock thing already :D But my cat, initially playing with it, somehow ended up a little spooked by its size. So I kept reducing the size of the sock filling until there was only an empty sock! It's a little weird, but as she got bigger, she started to prefer smaller toys. | | | |

| | My Waffles enjoys pushing and chasing little cat toy balls around and never seems to get tired of doing that. On the other hand, my Columbus prefers to play with a string toy. That toy has a little furry ball at the end of it that the cat likes to catch. He's ten years old, but plays like a little kitten. | | | | | | |

| | Is the string toy one of those batting ones? | | | |

| | No, not really, lol! It has a short wand with a string attached. At the end of that string is a stuffed furry "ball" that looks like a little bird. Columbus just loves to pounce on it and hold it down with his paw once he "catches" it. | | | |

| | So it's like a cat dancer, but he doesn't want anyone to make the little bird twirl in the air? | | | |

| | Yeah, something like that. I have to dangle and move it in front of the cat before he'll play. But the minute I shake it around a little, he'll leap at it with both paws sometimes and catches it, then tries to bite it. | | | |

| | Ah, I have a similar one then, but it's difficult to play with, because when my cat grabs it, she won't let go and tries to run away with the little mouse at the end of the string... I let go and she runs around the house with the pole trailing behind her :D | | | |

| | My cats love those balls with the bells, but they only seem to play with them when you are sleeping. So my husband had to take away all the poor kitty balls. : ) | | | | | | |

| | Heh, I had five of those, but the cat hid or lost them somehow. They were medium-sized and chimed, and yet I have no idea where they are! | | | |

| | My cats not very playful but when he is in the mood he just likes anything scrunched up into a ball or even maybe a tennis ball. He likes it when I throw it for him to chase, he goes flying about in the kitchen :). It's not really a toy ofcourse but he seems to enjoy it. He mostly though likes to play with it by himself which is great. He sometimes just trys to paw it away and chase after it. Goodluck | | | | | | |

| | Yeah, I sometimes grab a piece of paper and turn it into an "insta-ball". But the cat leaves these paper balls all over the place, then I get tired of picking them up (after she drops them they cease being toys and turn into trash... can't just have trash all over the place!). | | | |

| | I use the one ball method lol. It does get tiring after awhile though, even though the cat does all the work!.. | | | |

| | And your cat doesn't lose interest in the same ball? That's a problem I have with my cat, she loses interest after a while, so I need to "rotate" the toys. | | | |

| | I have three female young cats. We bought them all kinds of toys, but the thing that they like best is the ring off the milk carton. That's right something as simple as the milk bottle plastic ring. They will play with it for hours and even fight over it. It is best and cheapest toy I have found. | | | | | | |

| | I've been told cats like this, however, in my country, milk comes in cartons :) Buying milk in bottles is very expensive and most brands no longer use them for packaging. I'd be a little afraid to leave her to play alone with it, I'm afraid she'd eat part of it or something (she did something similar twice and it wasn't pretty, so I try to be cautious with what I let her play with). | | | |

| | I see... But isn't it bad to encourage that? Some cats end up biting and scratching people too much. My cat does it too, out of play but if she starts getting aggressive, playtime stops right there! | | | |

| | My cat loves toy mice, so she has a huge surplus of those. I also have this over the door toy that hangs over any door, with a stretchy string that hangs down with a toy attached to the end. She loves playing with that and batting it all around. She tries to take it with her sometimes. I believe it's called the Cataction Bungaree or something to that effect. I found it at Petsmart. | | | | | | |
