I love sunday morning breakfasts with my family. When they are all home,we try to have somehthing different each morning. I have been making these for about a year. It sounds strange and that is why I tried it. It would be great for those mornings when you are really rushed or you have alot of guests and they all eat different foods (isnt that always the case). It is so quick to make and everyone personalizes their own to their tastes. I used ham, cheese(various kinds), green peppers. banana peppers, bacon , onions and mushrooms.
You could make it Italian by adding pepperoni and Mozzarella
cheese....Polish by using Polish sausage....the combinations are endless!! Adults and children alike love these and they make their own, so you have time to spend visiting with your guests and not in the kitchen all the time. Kids love to make their own by adding the things they like. If you are having trouble gettting the kids to eat breakfast, this will surely solve that problem.
Omelet in a Mug
Serve: 1 serving
Prep. time: 5-10 minutes
Ingredients:
2 egg, beaten
2-3 TBSP shredded cheddar cheese
1 TBSP diced cooked ham
1 TBSP diced green pepper
salt and pepper to taste
Cooking Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl; mix well. Spray a
microwave-safe mug with cooking spray. Pour in egg mixture. Microwave, uncovered,
on HIGH for 1 minute; stir. Cook 1 to 1-1/2 minutes longer or until
eggs are completely set.
NOTES: This can also be done in a ziploc bag.
you just put the ingredients in to the bag and close bag
mix by kneading with hands.
Put the bag in a pan with boiling water till done. Several bags can be done at once using this method.
Be sure bag is covered with water. You can use any of your favorite omelet ingredients ... the ones
listed are just suggestions
When you microwave the second time, check after 1 minute. I found
that 1-1/2 minutes might have been just a little too long in microwave (a too little dry for my taste). Remember all microwaves are different so yours may take longer or less time.

villageanne, I have been doing something similar for years, but we are always in a hurry, I buy those big paper coffee cups.
I cook the omelet in those in a microwave, grab a plastic fork on the way out of the house and you have a meal with no dirty dishes.

That is a wonderful idea. It is amazing how you can make life easier and still eat homemade food. Thanks for sharing your idea with me.

One of the reasons we started doing the paper cup was that microwaved egg on a glass bowl needed dynamite to scrub it loose. Then I read the paper cup idea and it has stuck for over 20 years now.

That does sound neat, I don't have a microwave so I'm wonderin how to do the mug omelet on the stove top.

You are welcome. I hope it will help you and your family to have a good start on the day. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Please, if you don't feel as though I am stepping on toes, I would prefer you not use a ziplock bag. I have seen this recipe before and know that it looks fun and easy; but ziplock bags are not safe for cooking in. I am so happy that you also added a microwaveable mug as a choice. For everyone, please make sure that your plastic containers have the microwave sign on them as all plastic is not microwave safe and can leach contaminates into your food.
Other than that, I can't wait to get to eating, especially with the Mozzarella! ~Donna

This is an awesome idea!! One could have all the additives chopped the night before, ready to use the next morning! I will certainly be using this tip, thank you so very much! This is especially good when I have guests! We also go camping a lot..what a great thing to do while camping! (the baggie method)

We did this when we went camping. It works out great. Everyone gets to make it exactly like they like it. So everyone is happy. Making everyone happy is task that is hard to do.:)

Just one caveat that I don't see mentioned yet - strictly speaking, it's really not a great idea to boil Ziploc bags - at least not until they (or another company) come out with a "boilable" bag. The softening point for Ziploc bags is about 195 degrees Fahrenheit, and the fats in cheese and eggs can get much hotter than water.
I know the idea's been around for years, just be really careful if you choose to use the baggie method!

that is a great idea. I used to do something similar in the microwave before I really learned how to cook eggs on the stove.
I have never thought of cooking them in a bag in water like that. Great idea!
I'll have to try that.

Thanks. I will try to use then when I take my scouts camping. They all like different things! It is very hard to plan meals when everyone prefers different things. This will also allow them to do it themselves.

Thanks for the tip. I love the zip lock bag method. There's nothing worse than cleaning eggs off dishes --with the bag it's just eat and toss and it's great for making the night before to save time in the morning.

I know I'm just repeating what all the other responders have said but... oh my.. what a wonderful idea. I can't wait to try it out.
We usually only do cooked breakfast on the weekends but I often feel like a restuarant as everyone likes something different. This is gonna be so fun. And the kids can do it themselves which is probably my favorite part of the whole idea :)
I would have thought that the ziploc bag would have melted in the boiling water but I'm going to try it !

Interesting idea! I'll have to give it a whirl! My only objection to the idea of putting it in the bag is you end up using a lot of ziploc bags, which is not only harmful to the environment, it can use an aweful lot of bags! At least you can wash the mug and use it again.

Oh no there goes my hips again! These sound so good and now they have gotten into my head I will have to try them now..lol. Sound great also because my husband doesn't eat breakfast in the morning and this will be simple for me especailly if I get little bags and cut everything up ahead of time for a few days use. Yummy. They should make a song called "There goes my hips again"..lol

That is interesting. I love omeletes and it looks like this is much easier than the old fashioned skillet method..lol
I will have to try it both ways and see which I like better. I have never been crazy about microwaved eggs though. I have a hard time getting them to be cooked and not dry.
I will check it out though. i am all about easy! :)

What a great idea..I am certainly going to try this Sunday morning...my grandson's will love it...they each have such different tastes in omelets...Excellent idea...and thanks for sharing...I also see this being a great hit at work...we have so many that don't take the time for breakfast and are so hungry by mid morning...maybe I'll buy the ingredients and take it all to work and let each one customize their own...we have special days we all bring things for lunch...this would be a great alternative to lunch!!! I think you've struck gold with this idea in my life!!!! Thanks again!!!
