How many of you know your neighbours? |
| |
| I read this somewhere "We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbour."This is so true. Some people just moved into the house next to us. We never bothered to welcome them. Infact we dont even acknowledge them when we pass each other. Not only them but people who have been living in the same neighbourhood for years, we dont even say hello when we pass by. So how many of you know your neighbours? Would you bother to welcome someone if they just moved into your neighbourhood? | | A neighbourhood | | | | |

| | We don't know any of our neighbors. We moved into our house about two years ago and no one welcomed us to the neighborhood or anything. I think if someone were to move in and they had kids I would say something to them or maybe make them some goodies-old fashioned I know but I would do something nice for them! | | | | | | |

| | We live a out in the country and though we all keep to ourselves for the most part we in the "neighborhood" know we can count on each other in an emergency or would be welcome to stop by for a visit. I am fairly reserved by nature as are most of the folks here (down east yankees!) I kind of like the fact that we don't literally live in each other's backyard. I like my privacy and I respect others' as well. I have noticed a trend as new houses go up around me that folks moving in from other areas (mostly out of state) expect big neighborhood welcoming committees and will hold open houses if none are forthcoming. To each is own, I guess. That's just not my thing. I will stop and chat while walking the dogs or give a friendly wave hello if I am out gardening and they stroll by, but that's about it! | | | | | | |

| | Ooh i hate those people. Your better off staying away from them because they just want to gather information about you so they can gossip about it to someone else and also exagerate a bit to make it more interesting. | | | |

| | yep. if someone new has moved in into our neighborhood, i'll gladly welcome them. not by going to their house and introduce myself. but give them a smile when i get to meet them one day. i have a neighborhood which loves to spread gossip about people. and i don't like such scene. so, i don't really go out and spend time with my neighbor since i know that i am just wasting time talking about other people's lives, sharing gossips. but i do know their faces and some, i know their names. when i go out of the house and meet them, i just give them a smile and i'm happy with that. | | | | | | |

| | i don't really know them but i have met them and talked to most of them at least one time. i live in an apartment building with 5 tenants. i have talked to 4 of them. the other guy just stays to himself and plays his music really loud early in the morning. it doesn't bother me though because my bedroom is on the other side of his living room and i barely hear it. no i don't know my neighbors in the building next door or across the street or anything. my neighborhood just stays to themselves. no one bothers anyone and personally i prefer it to be that way. i don't like anyone in my business. if someone came and welcomed me to the neighborhood i would be like ok so what do you want? seriously. i wouldn't say that to their face but i sure would be thinking it. lol. if they brought food or something i'd accept it lol. but then i'd be forced to be nice and talk to them everytime i seen them. | | | | | | |

| | I do not know any of my neighbors I have owned my house for 15 years, every other house in my area is a rent house, people come & go. I will say hello to my neighbors if I see them outside but that is it.Most people that live here are on government assistance. I find it best to keep to myself. I have befriended several neighbors in the past, before I knew it, they were bothering me all the time, wanting to borrow my phone, wanting a ride here or there, needing sugar, etc. I got to where I would not answer the door. They would not give up. My car was there, they knew I was home.I do not feel well, and am disabled. I have a hard time makeing it myself.. I like to be left alone. I need peace & quit. I also had some things come up missing after I befriended one of these neighbors, So I just think It is better to keep to your self.I am not rude to any of them but do not become friendly either. I also have a swimming pool, and everyone wants to come and use it when they know I have one, but they never offer to help maintain it. | | | | | | |

| | Times have changed, that's for sure. I can remember my mother baking cookies or pie for new neighbors, bringing it to them and getting acquainted. She would tape her name and address on the container that she put the goodie in so that when the people finished eating it, they would have an excuse to bring back the dish and see where she lived. I usually didn't do that but having 5 kids, sooner or later I would meet the neighbors; they were usually parents of friends of my kids. Maybe we should go back to the old traditions, it seems like some people think that they can move into a neighborhood and they can get away with almost anything. Some people have parties all night, loud music, messy yards and don't even try to keep up their house. If they knew that their neighbors were paying attention to the neighborhood and were aware of what was going on, I think most people would try harder to behave themselves. Of course, some people just don't care.... | | | | | | |

| | We aren't best friends with our neighbors, but we speak all the time if we are outside at the same time, but we never go over to each other houses or anything like that. Our neighbors that used to live across from us, we were pretty close to them, talked all the time, spent time together. | | | |

| | Its easier to tell someone to clean up or to keep it down if you know them personally. If you just bang on their door the first time and tell them to lower the volume a bit, they just label you as a cranky neighbour. It would also be nice when you needed help to carry something in or just wanted them to watch over your flat when you are going out of town for a few days to be ablr to rely on your neighbour and not have to call a friend who lives far away from you. Unfortunately these days its more common to ignore your neighbours than to be nice to them. | | | |
