Pedigree or Street Dogs |
| |
| All you dog lovers, think over this, What do you prefer to have a pedigree breed or would you prefer giving home to a street dog. Would it be a good idea to bring home a homeless or spend a lot of money and buy pedigree breed. How would you justify your decision | | | | | |

| | In my opinion, they do not know, nor they are the guilty to be in the street. In my case, i have 2 dogs: one which we had bought eight years ago, and one which we had taken from the street. | | | | | | |

| | It would have a nice idea to adopt a street dog and my uncle has one actually but they are little bit difficult to train, I do not mean that they are less-intelligent than a Pedigree breed, but, I find them little too resistant to accept the training sessions. And infine personal preference plays a major role in this regard as most of us has certain preference for a particular breed which you can't ignore. | | | | | | |

| | Yes i totally agree that we all have our own personal preferences and thats the reason why people hesitate to adopt a dog and rather go for a pedigree one. They also have become a status symbol these days. I'm not really convinced that street dogs are difficult to train. May be your uncle (he had done a wonderful job of adopting one)had adopted a grown up one. In case if adopted when its a puppy then training should not be any problem. What do you say??? | | | |

| | We had to have our family dog put down a little over a year ago and we haven't gotten our hearts back to a place where we can consider another one yet. However, lately, we've been spending a lot of time monitoring the website of a nearby adoption centre. The owner takes in mainly dogs and cats and has a stringent system where she takes applications for people looking for a pet. She also helps to "match" people with an appropriate dog for their living situation. If we add a new pet to our home, it's likely that we will adopt one from her centre. They get dogs from all sources including the pound, owners who for some reason can no longer keep their pets, etc. Not all the dogs are young either -- I've seen some in the 7 and 8 year old range looking, again, for a home. They care for the dogs well, getting all their shots up to date and having them altered before anyone gets to take them home... and they charge a flat rate adoption fee to help cover all those expenses and to keep running their adoption centre. It's a good organization and I would heartily support their work. The only need I could see for me to have a pedigreed animal would be if I were involved in breeding them, I think. | | | | | | |

| | Its really wonderful to know that there are people who work had to the cause of saving the street animals. If each of the dog lovers contribute a little then i guess the problem would be solved. Yes, i know how you would have felt when you lost your dog. i too have gone through similar situation and know that it hurts a lot. | | | |

| | I think the best place to get an animal, espescially a dog or cat, is from your local animal shelter. Most of the animals in shelters have the potential to be great pets, they just need a chance. If you are dead set on a certain breed, often you can find rescue programs for certain breeds, who rehabilitate dogs of that breed that are no longer wanted. For instance, I have a doberman mix and would love another some day. If I do get another doberman, there is a great program in my state called doberman rescue which rehabilitates dobermans who were improperly raised or in bad living situations. I think if folks have the extra cash to fork over for a purebred, they should reconsider and think of all of the dogs at their local shelter who need a home. Save the money, adopt a dog who really needs it, and then give the rest of the money to the shelter... | | | | | | |

| | thats a good suggestion but the only problem with this is since the dogs are not raised in good condition they might be unhealthy and also may have behaviour problems. I have seen some grown up dogs which bite their owners and so we have to be careful while bringing home a grown up dog. Whatever may be the suggestion is absolutely wonderful. thanks | | | |

| | You have a point there. Most reputable humane societies or rehabilitation programs are very careful about screening the dogs they put up for adoption. If a dog is dangerous or has serious health or behavior problem, they usually will screen the dogs pretty well before you can adopt them. I guess it also depends on your area and how conscienscious the people who work there are. | | | |

| | I've had both and it really depends on the person and the circumstances, I guess. I have this beautiful true story I would like to share with you: One day a guy and his friend were hunting in the woods and this was in the automn when it's beginning to get cold and one of the guys noticed something moving in the branches. After deciding to take a closer look, they noticed a half-dead dog. The dog was so weak it couldn't run away although it was scared to death. One of the guys picked her up and brought her to his car where they drove her to his home. He even brought her to the vet to see if she would live or if there was anything wrong with her because of suffering from starvation, but it turns out that all she needed was some food, water and a little tender, loving, care. This man has adopted this dog and they've become best of friends. He now takes her regularly to the Tim Horton's drive thru to get her Tim Bit. He said that she's the best dog ever! It breaks my heart in two to know that people abandon pets like that. Domesticated animals are not meant to live without us; they depend on us for food and shelter. It's heartwarming, though, to see people like this man act as a good Samaritain toward this poor, abandoned, starving pup. I bet you this dog is quite appreciative that this men didn't mind taking in a homeless dog. | | | | | | |

| | i love mutts from the streets. Well not really from the streets, but ones from an animal shelter. In my expereince, our dogs they are great family dogs and you save a whole bunch of money. Full-breds also tend to have more health problems than mutts too. | | | | | | |

| | If I could, I would rather take all street dogs, because I know that no one will take care of them, since those with pedigree are most wanted and will be treated better. But I have a problem, as everyone else - what could I do with so many dogs, and the worst thing is - I don't know how old any of those dogs are and I get so attached to them :( | | | | | | |

| | I love animals. All animals, except lizards. If I can, I would like to pet several animals like dogs, cats, horses, cows, goats, sheep, monkeys, rabbits, etc. Street dogs or pedigreed dogs, it makes no difference to me. As of now, I don't have a pet because I can't, but when I can first I'll get dogs. | | | | | | |
