Naming your pets?  

Currently, I name my pets by either Gods or Goddess names (I'm Wiccan), or by favourite character names from video games or mangas..also simply Japanese names I love. I have a chinchilla I named Makyura(after a Yu-Gi-Og card name), a rat named Lillith(Goddess), a gecko named Litha(other name for Summer Solstice), a Water Dragon named Kira(character from Death Note manga), a turetle named Kalas(fav character on Baten Kaitos video game)...then of course I have a Betta fish wich is unnamed, and two large hermit crabs which I'm looking over Japanese names for...I had a spiny mouse(RIP) named Pharoah cuz of Yu-Gi-Oh and a budgie(RIP) named Akira cuz I love the Japanese name....
Then of course we have our dog Hollie, name my mom and I could agree on, and our cat Starlight...I named him when I was like 15(21 now..) so it was based on the white star shape on his head! haha

My wife and I had an Irish Setter named Arf-Arf for 14 years. My wife named her and I can't tell you even to this day how she came up with that idea. She says it just popped into her head.

Arf-Arf was quite a dog. She rode in our 18 wheeler with us for over 1,000,000 miles. She even had a nick name, "Diesel Dog". Arf-Arf made us friends all over the USA as we trucked in the entire lower 48 states.

Arf-Arf is responsible for the red in redyellowblack dog.

Princess, a yellow golden retriever is responsible for the yellow in redyellowblackdog.

Stormy, the black mutt in my avatar, is the black in redyellowblackdog.

My parents have a white big dog names Racing.My sister and her boyfriend found it 5 years ago when they were in their car.they saw a big basket near the street and they came near to it.they saw a white ball the was running to them,so they taked it and got it in hour house.They named it Racing because the dog runned fast the first time it met them.

I don't have a dog, but I do have many names picked out! Most of my names come from TV shows or books. A lot depends on what the dog is like too..but here are some names I have thought about:
Strider (Lord of the Rings)
River (Firefly)
Xander (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
Pippin (Lord of the Rings)
Doyle (Angel)
Ugh...I know there are more, but I can't think of them right now :-)

I name a lot of my pets after favorite book, tv, and movie characters. There have even been times when I've named pets after famous people because they remind me of them in some way.

For instance - Arnold was my japanese fighting fish. I named him after arnold swartzenagger because the fish was a fighting fish and the other arnold was known for his action movies.

I also like to give my pets unexpected names. For instance, I named another one of my fish Rover. I thought it was funny because Rover is thought of as a dog name.

I like to look at a dogs personality to name them.We have a 1 yr old german shepard that we adopted at the animal shelter last month.They already named Sasha , we didn't want to confuse her so we figured we would leave her name that but for some reason she wouldn't answer to it.
I was playing with her one day and she started to run back and forth acroos the house. I said tata to her . She stopped looked at me and walked back to me. Ever since we have called her TaTa. She seems to like that name a whole lot better.

Well, our dog "Copper" (a chocolate lab) was named by my 5 yr old son who at the time liked the movie Fox and the Hound.....

My cat "Slick" was named the day she was born, we were there to see her be born and out of the litter of 6, she was the only long hair, some one made a joke that the litter had 5 spikey hair dues, and one cool cat with slicked back hair. We also ended up with her sister "Cleo", who was all grey, except fot the white ring around her neck, that looked like a big necklace, so we named her Cleopatra.

Out last dog we named "Henson" who was all light brown with a small white patch on his back, and he reminded us of the actor John Henson,

Our family likes different names. I'm a mythology and book nut, so alot of names get stuck in my head.

Mostly we let our pets pick their names. How they act and what their personality's like usually determines their names.

Take my darlin' Loki, he was named after the norse god of mischief -- and regardless how calm he may seem, he DOES get into quite a bit of mischief, and usually on purpose.

Merlin (another of our family's cats) was named for the way he just appeared one day. He wasn't even old to be away from his mother, but we found him on the road with a broken leg. He's kept that ability to appear and disappear and he's quite moody . . though he is as intelligent as the character from the Arthurian tale he was named for.

we dont have any pet now after our black pomerian died. its name was Betsy taken from Archie Comic book. very sexy one.
