Fishing Season Opens - Grandson is Excited!

United States
April 5, 2007 8:49am CST
Fishing season opens this week and my grandson is thrilled! He has already gotten his pole out and has been practicing his casting skills. The weather isn't great, getting cold again, so we will have to wait another week or more before we can hit the rivers and lakes to do some serious fishing. School vacation starts the week of April 16th, he may have to wait until then to cast a line. Hopefull this is the last of the snow and warm weather will be upon us.

I used to love going fishing with my Dad. many of my friends said they couldn't understand what was so enthralling about sitting on a riverbank all day doing nothing lol, but for me, that was the whole point. I liked that it was so quiet, and unhurried, I liked that I could sit and relax, and I enjoyed the thrill of seeing y dad land the "Big one." He still goes fishing quite a lot. He's a member of a fishing club and he's won quite a few trophies through the years. I miss going with him, but living overseas really isn't conducive to going with him lol. Happy Fishing!

the first time i was able to try fishing was two years ago. i was already 25 years old. a bit too late for me, huh? but i did have fun with my dad and other people. we went to a far away place where water is fresh and the weather is great. although i never caught any fish at all, i say, it was great to be just there, sitting and waiting for some fish to be tricked with my bait. i guess the whole idea of being witht he people i love is best.

My daughter is chomping at the bit as well to go fishing again. I just don't see the allure in fishing. I enjoy quite peaceful surroundings and being in the sun. I just don't find it sporting waiting for a fish to gobble the bait that you have dangling on the end of a hook. Fishing is an definitely an acquired sport or relaxation time. I do go along with my husband and daughter when they fish, but just to read and enjoy the sunshine. Yes, what happen to our spring tempatures, feels like old man winter came back with a vegence. Bring me warmer days please!

It is still quite cold today and the snow hasn't gone away. My grandson asked today when it would be warm enough to go fishing with Opa. I told him maybe in a couple of weeks if we are lucky. He said, well it will probably be longer than that. Wise for his age of 6 years.

FISHING!!Last summer I meant a new member of the family(my brother remarried) and he is turning 5 this week.I suggested to him I would take him fishing when we came back in Aug for a visit and he has been hyped up ever since!!He keeps asking his Nana when is Uncle and I going fishing(and it is just the two of us; no one else he tells them). I also have a story about my own son.It was an Olympic year when I bought a brand new fishing rod .I had not had a chance to use it when he decided to try out for the pole vaulting team(I guess) and SNAP.I remember laughing as it was just so comical.

You know...I might have to go get some fishing poles for my kids for this summer. I remember spending my summers as a kid fishing too. But my partner says it is no fun to fish off the side of a lake or river. I do not agree. Why can't a person just sit down on the edge of the water to fish?

That is how we always did it. You bring along a bag lunch and have a picnic. The kids always loved it.

Ahh...wait, I have been "fishing". It wasn't to catch fish though. We had a little field trip in Elementary up in Kansas were we went to a lake and caught some crawdads. I thought that it was very fun, and I think that it would be just as fun or funner with fish! I think that you can sit down on the edge of a lake or river and have fun and spend some time together. :)

I hope he has a great fishing season. Great to know that someone still does fishing. Do you have some favorite spots? We wish for a pond or mini lake to stock and then we can fish to keep the numbers in bounds. Good luck with this fishing and hoping there will be some pictures.

My family loves to fish. We don't do any up here in Ontario but everytime we go home for a holiday in Newfoundland we go trouting all the time. Before we moved to Ontario 8 years ago, durning the Summer me, Garry and the kids would go almost every night. Funny thing is myself and Garry hate trout but the kids love to eat them. Garry ties his own flies too. He sells them and makes a bit of money on the side.

Ya fishing is so much fun. We are also planing to go for fishing when the weather get warm a little. In our place also the cold has came again. We don't have lake near by for fishing. We have to drive atleast two hour to a lake. We take lots of food and do grillig there and its lots of fun. It's like a very nie picnic. Hope your grandson and your family have a good fishing time and get lots of fish:).

We have plenty of lakes and rivers around here. It is still way too cold to venture out and stand around a cold body of water.

My husband loves to fish. He's like a little kid LOL. Him and his grandfather have already talked about going fishing and taking my husband's boat for a weekend. It will be nice for him to go do what he loves to do and spend time with his grandpa. Plus it will give me some time to myself (and the baby) for a weekend.

Oh I bet that your grandson is excited that is great and we as grandparents feel for them when we see them being happy with their own little lives. Oh well I do hope that the weather will improve and before you know it that your grandson will be able to go fishing and enjoy himself and bring home some fish. Our school vacation started yesturday for 2 weeks and the kids were so excited to get their first holidays for this year. Keep warm until the cold and snow has gone and warmer weather is upon you all!!

As kids we did a lot of fishing it's a good peaceful passtime and I love eating fish. I hope your grandson catches the biggest fish of all and has a wonderful time. I love children so much. My grandchildren are the world to me. I love them even when they're having a rotten day !!!

I love going fishing and down here there isn't a season, so we can go fishing all year long depending on the weather. But my best fishing time has always been when it is snowing. Not many people go in the cold weather so the fish will bite anything. I took my daughter out fishing as soon as she was old enough to hold a pole and now at 14 she is the one begging to go. I hope you and your grandson catch alot of fish. Kids love it when they get a bite because they just know it's a big one. Happy fishing.

Awww...that is really cute! Just as cute as being excited because Easter is coming!! :) I have never been fishing so I would not know the thrill of fishing. I hope that it warms up here too, it is freezing and we got some snow too. It didn't stick to the ground though, but it is still very cold. Have a happy fishing soon! :) And, good luck!

My son is an avid fisherman too!!!! He gets so excited when the season starts up, although he technically finds some how to fish all year long or just about! Isn't it a wonderful thing to have them do? Something that you know will keep them busy, out of trouble and isn't going to cost a ton of money (for the most part LOL).

Ice fishing season just closed here last weekend. The ice on the lake is not even rotting or melting yet. It will be awhile before we get to start some real fishing again. It's fun to share an activity with a child. I hope your weather is perfect for fishing buy the time school vacation starts.

Fishing is a big thing in our house as that is what my husband does for a living . He wanted to take the children out as they got poles last year for Easter and my three year old never got to go out yet and she has her Dora fishing rod and I believe she would be excited and it is something that my husband can do with the children that they all enjoy together . It is still really cold here also , everytime it looks like the snow is going to go away we get another storm . I can't wait to see the warmer weather again as I really don't like the cold and this way the children can all get out to do the things they like to do , like fishing .
