Water Drainage Problems!  

I'm not sure I know what to say about dishdrains. They are handy, I will say that. Nice dog you have there, Gramps. What's his name?

Have the same problem Grandpa Bob. I brought a cheap one a the dollar store and use a towle under it so the water that the drain don't keep the towel will catch. I have wooden counter tops so I try to change the towel every time I do the dishes. I can't see spending money on things that don't work so I figure the towel is the best thing for me anyway. LOL. I've used the towel thing as well. Where I live now we don't have a dishwasher. The drainage thing actually works pretty well compared to others I've seen, but it's not perfect. You are right, somebody needs to invent better ones. Go to work for Rubbermaid lol.

i have a wooden dish rack-i took a wooden cutting board slightly larger that has channel grooves,attached a long bar to the back
underside to elevate it at an angle and cut a notch in the front groove.
then attached the dish frame to the cutting board.

you only raise it enough not to heave the dishes forward,but enough to let the water drain down,it goes over the lip and right into the sink.

Grandpa Bob, I so agree with you on the woes of the dish strainers. I have just totally given up on mine. I either use a cookie sheet under the strainer--I still have to dump the water, or thick bath towels to absorb it.
My other thought is, do you have a double sink? If you do, could you just lay your strainer in the 2nd sink, and rince/drain them that way? I've done this before and it worked really well.

I have a dishwasher but I do wash those dishes that are not 'dishwasher safe'.
I just use one of those drainage racks that rest over the sink (luckily, I have
a double sink), and it does work quite nicely.

I don't have any useful advice for this. Mainly because I don't use a mat under the dish rack. Our sink has these little grooves, and the water drains down these into the sink. Of course, if I opverload the dish rack, which I often do, the water drips over the edges onto the surrounding cupboards.

Hummm......one thought get a dishwasher. I use a towel and just dry the dishes when im done if for some reason I have to wash by hand. If mom gets mad tell her to come up with a better idea.

I used to have the same problem, and it was driving me crazy. I now have a different type that works great. It fits right in the second sink basin and it's just a flat piece of plastic with open slats for the water to run through. It cost a dollar. I have a separate silverware holder. If you can't find this style, you might look for a compact dish rack that will fit down in your sink basin.
