Borobudur low-relief

Borobudur is a high place of Buddhism of the Southeast Asia, located on the Java island, not far from Yogyakarta. It was set up around 800 AC, by the sovereigns of the Cailendra dynasty . Borobudur is an immense stone monument (side: 123 meters and high: 42 meters), at the same time in the shape of Stupa, Mandala and Temple Mountain. These low-reliefs evoke in images the life of the historical Buddha Sakyamuni.Deserted into 950 and covered little by little by the tropical vegetation, Borobudur was rediscovered in 1814 by Sir Thomas raffles which then made release the monument and join together the scattered parts around the site. In 1968, the indonesian government called upon UNESCO which decided to save Borobudur in 1973. It was then necessary to dismount three million stones, 1460 low-reliefs carved on 4km of walls, 173 stupas and 504 statues of Buddhist divinities. The work was completed in 1985.
