THKOhio No one said anything about an absence of discipline. Discipline, boundaries and consistency are VERY important to all children. But that doesn't have to mean hitting them. My children are 22, 18 and 15...never been spanked, and never had to have the law handle...

THKOhio But the rod mentioned in the Bible was used to lead and direct the sheep, not to beat them. I guide and direct my children on a daily basis, but I never have to hit them to do so. None of my children are irresponsible or undisciplined...they are good people.

THKOhio Kids don't NEED to be spanked. Kids need discipline and guidance, but you can do that without ever putting a hand on them. Some parents CHOOSE to spank...but it's not a NEED a child has, ever.

THKOhio I don't use time outs, either. We use natural and/or logical consequences. Everything relates directly to the misbehavior as much as possible.
