Another Bad Hair Day

I treated myself to a visit to the salon last week. I went with my daughter Celisa. She got a new style and I got highlights and a trim. The problem is that my hair is extremely dry now. The only time it feels good is when I wash it and treat it with a heavy moisturizing conditioner. It looked like a fuzz ball today. I put it back with a headband to keep it out of my face. I wish I didn't have to wash it everyday to keep it looking and feeling good. Now I wish I didn't get the highlights. Have you every had your hair fried? How long does it take to recover? *Sigh* Live and learn.

Oh my, how disappointing! I have never had my hair highlighted or colored at a salon. I tried coloring it myself at home once. (disaster) I did see on TV recently and in a few magazines that hats are currently in vogue! Sorry, couldn't help it! I would try some of those hot oil treatments, I have heard that they really help to deep condition hair.

I could write a book on fried hair! When I worked for the post office I was in the sun all day, every day so my hair got lightened from the sun. I decided to help it along since it was really blond on the top but if I wanted to put it up or back you could see how dark the bottom layers were. At first I had it highlighted professionally and that wasn't so bad plus I also go perms regularly, not real often but maybe twice a year. My stylist had a baby and soon after decided to give up her shop for awhile because it was really hard to keep it up with a newborn so I got the bright idea of buying the over-the-counter hair color and having my daughter do it for me and instead of just highlights I had to lightened all over. Then, when I needed a touch-up she would concentrate on my roots but also do my whole head again and again, if you know what I mean. So between the perms, the dye and the sun my hair was frazzled big-time and I like to wear it long. Eventually I found a new stylist who nursed by hair back to health by gradually getting me back to my natural color. It took a few years, but it's actually quite healthy now; it doesn't "behave" for sh*t but it's healthy...lol. What you should do for your hair is get a hair serum such as "Frizeze" (excuse the spelling, I'm not sure if that's right or not) and a good conditioner, including one you spray on and leave in. My hair also gets dry and fly-away in the winter when the humidity is low and it's really cold so maybe that's another contributing factor. Say hello to your daughter for me and tell her I miss her here. Annie

My hair fell out twenty years ago, so all my hair care is done with a wash cloth and bar of soap!

Oh. I know exactly what you mean. I have to wash my hair every day because if I don't, it will oook like bed head and my hair is all haywire. I thought about getting highlights also but my hair is very black and I'm starting to get a gray hair here and there now. I had my hair fried one week before my wedding with a perm and them they reversed it with a straightener. Talk about a horrible mess. It took me a can of hairspray just to get it to stand up a little bit because the straightener made it just hang flat. Keep in mind that I do have some natural curl in my hair too and even that didn't help, LOL.

Hmmmmm...... I would contact the salon and ask them to fix it. Maybe a deep conditioning treatment would help? OR-- Years ago my friend colored her hair twice in less than 24 hours and her was FRIED. She slept with a capful of mayonaisse on her head and the next day her hair was so soft and tame. Smelly, but soft!!

I read somewhere to reverse it, condition, then wash with regular conditioner and regular shampoo. I tried it and my hair wasn't so bad or so dry. Only do it during the winter. Also there are shampoos with conditioners built in so that you can condition and wash at the same time. So one of the two should help you. We have this problem every winter up here. The heaters and wood stoves dry out our hair something fearce. So try to find a conditioning shampoo and see if that helps. Also there are shampoos for permed and colored hair. They tend to help a lot. Take care

Here is something that will help your hair. Goop it up good with some mayonaise, let it sit for awhile, 20 minutes if you have the time. Then wash as usual, that does help put some moisture back in your hair. I don't put nothing other then shampoo and conditioner in my hair. I have long dark hair with natural grey highlights. Actually the way my grey is coming in looks nice. I have a grey stripe on each side of my head right at the temples. They are my wings, hehe. I have always been scared of putting chemicals in my hair, for reasons like this.

I am surprised that you Hair dresser has not advised you to use a Deep Conditioner once a week which is like a Mask and you leave it on for about 30 minutes or as long as you can also wrap your Hair in a warm wet towel while the Conditioner is on I also advise get a leave in Conditioner for dry Hair I have always done treatments on my Hair and have never had problems with my Hair drying out I hope it works for you Hugs

Once I had my hair colored and permed. It did get to feel really dry, and the prettiness did not last for long. I cannot remember how long it took to get back to normal. In the last year I have grown all of the color off, had it cut off as short as possible twice and am growing it back out. I will eventually have long gray hair. It is heavy, but not as heavy as it used to be.

Its sounds like you have naturally curly hair. I do too. But getting highlights shouldnt fry your hair. I was told not to wash my hair everyday. But I cant do that. So I got Loreal shampoo for dry and frizzy hair and Loreal conditioner. My hair feels alot better.

Sorry that happened to you. I haven't ever had my hair fried before. I do know a lady that had a perm put in her hair one time and it fried her hair. I think she just did a heavy conditioning on it several times to try to get it back in shape. I'm not really sure how long it took her though to get it back to normal again. I hope it hurries up and gets back to normal for you soon.

i am a styist, and if you were my client i would want to know what your hair is doing! im sure she could give you a deep conditioning treatment, and it would be much better, and if it were a good salon, they would not charge you for it either!

I never had my hair fried, but I did have it cut way too short. I have this lovely fine and thick hair that people admire, but as soon as they do, they get out the scissors. I guess it is jealousy.

I had a really bad spiral perm once! My hair was waist length and from the frizzies it looked like it only came to the mid center of my back! I did deep conditioning hot towel wraps faithfully for almost 6 month, once every other week to prevent from having to cut it all off.I kept trimming it too every few weeks to remove split ends and finally it tamed down.I was furious, and haven't gotten a perm since.

Do you use Olive Oil? Olive oil is wonderful to put on your hair. First wash it in warm water...do not rince in cold water. While hair is still hot and with steam in the shower, put olive oil on your scalp and your hair close to the hair shaft. Leave it on or an hour or so. Then take a hair dryer and use it get your scalp and hair to soak it up. After you have done this process, wash your hair again in warm water. Put regular conditioner on it and leave it for a few minutes and rince it in Cool water. The warm water opens up the shaft of the hair so it will be absorbed. The cold water will close the shaft and keep the conditioner and olive oil inside the scalp and hair. Good luck to you
