Do you take advantage of what you have in your backyard?

What I mean is do you go to the parks or lakes or ocean near you or do you chose to not take advantage of where you live? Within an hours drive from me I have lakes, streams, mountains where I can hike or camp, or ski, or swim, or just laze around. I spend alot of time in my backyard where I have a hammock swings, outdoor lounges, table and chairs under trees and canopy. I don't feel the need to go out of town for much these days. What's in your backyard? xoxoxoxoxoxo

I live in a tourist town which is right on a beautiful beach and so it's always busy there. I hate crowds, and there are a lot of restrictions on dogs there, so although I have some beautiful beaches nearby, I prefer to stay at home and enjoy my garden, like you. I have tables, chairs, lounges, BBQ, a large patio for protection from our hot sun, and it means my dogs can enjoy it with us! I can just nip inside and make a cool drink for free, and not have to wait in a long queue to get it! I take full advantage of my backyard, I love it.

We sure do. We just redid my back deck and put a roof over it this year. It is not all the way done yet but pretty close to it. We also have an above ground pool in my back yard and it has a deck all the way around it along with a basketball goal to shoot baskets too while we swim. We like to cookout alot on the grill also on my back deck. We have a couple of chairs to sit on also on the deck area.

Oh yes, where I live you can do just about everything. But, I've been to most of the places that I like around here, so I branch out to other places farther away. But, if I want to save gas, I stay near my home. Just within biking distance is a couple of lakes. If I want to ride farther, I can go to the beach. But, it would hard to get to the mountains on my bike. But, within an hour's drive of my home we have beach, mountain, lakes, and desert. I live only five miles from a very large natural park with lots of trails for hiking or biking. If I had a horse, I could ride there, too.

Within an hour of me I have lakes, museums, zoos, but not any mountains. I have a yard that has been neglected for a couple of years and so there is a lot of work, and fun to be had there. One of the favorite things we do is either sit on the porch swing for morning coffee. We also rescued an abandoned porch swing, found a free child's swing set to hang it from. It is up in the trees and shade. Our oldest cat loves to swing with us, or even by himself. He gets in the swing and sharpens his claws to make the swing swing then lays down and enjoys swinging.

Tiger, who likes to swing. - This is my oldest cat, his name is Tiger. Tiger likes to swing, or come into the car window when we get home.
You mean the cat is not the king, mine are sure they are!I will post a picture of my cat Tiger, but he is not in the swing.

I was just going back thru some old discussions, I just saw the pic of your kitty, he looks so much like my Mr. Snickers. The color is the same even the tails look the same, I don't have a pic on my computer or I would show it to you.

Unfortunately no I do not, I cannot mow the grass and I have to rely on other people to do it. I seem to stay in the house all the time.

Hi raydene! Oh, I would love to be staying in your backyard. That is so wonderful. I would just love to be in the hammock and reading my favorite book and munching some potato chips. haha..That is so nice! I guess, the only time I can sit in the garden is at night time when there is no much heat. It is still very hot here in our country and the sun is shining so bright and hot. It is only when night time comes that my hubby and I can sit in the garden and have some cup of coffee. Take Care and God Bless!

I have a backyard thats a haven for kids. We have a wooden swingset, is big. We also have a basketball hoop, we have a pool. We have a garden and a shed. I also have a screened tent that I haven't put up yet. We have room for all of that and there still is room for the kids to play. Plus there are toys all over, The yard actually looks a mess, but you can tell that kids have been having fun. Thats is more important then a showplace yard. Plus we have chairs and the grill, gotta have that stuff.

In our back yard we have an acre of space, the end of it is met with a nice small thicket of trees. Attached to our house leading to the back is a dog pen with a door to it from the garage and a deck. In the front yard is another half acre or so of space...peppered with trees, especially a particularly large pine that's infested with birds (lol). Our driveway is long and graveled, and our mailbox has plantings growing around it. This spring we're to be farming all available space (including the deck!)...so we'll have herbs, flowers scattered everywhere, as well as squash growing in the front yard (and a few more trees, this time fruit trees...like a peach tree and crabpple tree). In the front AND back, we'll have a few berry bushes...blackberries and honeyberries. In the back yard we'll have a ton of tomatos, some corn, greenbeans, limas, soybeans...cucumbers, zukes, and some greens (as well as an assortment of edible flowers). On the front steps we'll be growing hot peppers (the bells will go in the back). Down just a few roads away...a day's walking distance, is a well that's been there for about a century that's connected to a natural spring. On either side of us are fields of corn and beans from neighboring farms. I'm also hoping to get a hammock or make one, this summer, so that I can sleep outside more...and guard the garden, since we have neighbors who might get the bright idea to steal some veggies (as our last neighbors stole our melons when we victory gardened in the city). I'm quite happy not going into town much, with all this work ahead of me...and the fun that's bound to spring from this year in this new home.

Its too hot to go outside. I have lakes nearby, but I don't like to swim in lakes, they stink.

Where I live I have a postage stamp garden so the extension to that is the two mile sandy beach down the road and the local common and parks so I spend so much time there it is like my own backyard really. Ellie :D
