I hate receiving calls after I was scolded by a subscriber. She said im as strict as the one who assisted her yesterday. Wow, I dont feel like working today and receiving calls makes me dont want to work and go ome. Can any of you help me make my voice more friendly, its really a natural voice for me and I try not to be strict but its out of my control. Another day of trial, I just hope I make it through the whole day.

Hi Zelmarq! Oh my, why did she say you have a strict voice? Were you talking to her on a flat monotonous tone which some sharp tones once in awhile? Just try this: When you talk on the phone, smile even though they can't see you. Then try to add some chirpiness on your voice somehow. And whatever the subscriber said to you, take it as a constructively dear. Don't let it put you down. Smile and let it go. Take care always..God Bless!

Yes, maybe I was. I know she was not nice at all and have triggered me to say or have a voice like that. She was really stiff and then I was also stiff, which was a no no when it comes to customer service. I will try to smile while talking and have a nice day.

Hi dear! We are just humans..You have just reacted to her attitude towards you. We make mistakes and we just have to accept that we did and then move on. Let it pass and learn from it. Tomorrow is another chance for you to redeem yourself and put a smile in your face and others' as well. lovelots..faith210

I guess you could put yourself in to a sort of role playing, acting a happy bubbly role, I know it would not be an easy thing but i used to put myself into a happy mode when I was a telephone operator.. its like putting a smile in your voice...

Yes, i tried that for a start and its working, i try to talk casually than talking as if im trying to catch all the calls coming in. Being in a hurry in my calls makes me as if im taking less with subscribers, I guess I have to take the most time talking to them and dont hurry.

I agree with the lady who said to smile. It will come across in your voice. Some people just have that kind of voice but it will help to smile as you are talking (even if they can't see you). My husband has that problem too.

Well, thats it I have decided to make it a new sifestyle because I tend to talk in a casual way and when I try to change the way I talk in a casual way then it would make sense if I try to change it coz I know it would be for my own welfare. Thank you and have a nice day!!!!!

there may not be anything wrong with your voice, just your words try to use casual words instead of formal ones I don't mean slang or anything unprofessional though also you can start by asking how is their day and if they sound edgy aleady say that you are sorry they are having a bad day and that you will do your best to help if your voice still gets in the way you can say that you were born with this voice and you can't afford surgery to re do your voice chord hahah they may think you are weird or they may even agree with you, whatever it is, you can distract their attention from your 'military' voice

Try smiling while you speak on the phone - they say people can hear a smile. Also, speak a little softer, that is felt to be less harsh.

Was it the first time you were scolded for having a strict voice... if yes... then the subscriber must be having a bad day... or is quited stressed out with his/her life to complain about your voice... but if this is not the first time... then i think you should record your own voice and listen to it... and determine where you can soften it up...

I get that all the time. A natural voice is a natural voice/ What do they want us to do? Many of us can not help how our voices sound. Is it a cultural thing? Stern to one may be soft to another, who knows? I would have to hear it for myself to understand,. but \i do know what you are going through. Good luck.

Have a nice day my friend and take care and happy mylotting!!!!

I know how you feel. I go through this all of the time. I think I have a normal voice also but when I talk on the phone with someone, they are usually rude to me and the only thing I can figure out as to why, is my voice. It gets on my nerves because I am trying to be nice and they are so rude to me like they are thinking I am being rude to them or something.

Maybe you could record your voice so that you can hear what you sound like. We are always shocked at how we sound. I have heard, any I don't know if this really works, but smile while you are talking. My speaking voice is rather deep for a female as compared to the "tiny" voices of some girls and women. When I used to work at a local hospital records room I was always on the phone taking records requests and when people came to get them they were surprised because a short small girl. Sometimes voice teachers can help modulate a voice. Think of your favorite actress and try to copy her voice.

Hi Zel, I know how pressure and stressful that job is..Anyway just try to practice at home to be more sweet and more slow even if it's not really what you used too but just think that is because it is what you need to do for your job! I have a strict voice also and many times I tried to be sweet..Anyway, My work is different from yours but I still meet people everyday!

You can do it my friend! I presume you are working as a customer service representative? It's just like that, because we want to please our customers for a total customer satisfaction, we just can't argue with them eventhough at times they tend to be unreasonable already. Carry on Soldier!

Yes, thats it.When we try to be nice, the more they demand and the more they seem not to care as long as they get what they want.

I have been told that a lot over the years, and it really feels unjust. I guess you and I could try little squeaky high pitched baby talk voices, but it does not fit my personality, and it would feel so fake. I sympathize with you a lot on this one.

I think it is a difficult job you do, Zelmarq. I would feel like you are feeling a lot more often if it were me. I have looked at books in bookstores before about things you can do that will effect the way your voice sounds. One thing I remember is smiling while you are talking. Sorry I can't remember a book to recommend. It was just one I was flipping through.

Well, I guess its a matter of having the right mindset and I guess I have to refresh my mind with all the good things and the positive thoughts. I should make an effort to make my voice more friendly than the usual coz if not O know i would end up havig many complaints by the end of the week. Thank you my friend... have a nice day and happy mylotting!

Maybe you need to be more sympathetic. Just put yourself in their position. I can't believe how many telemarketers there are that have no concern for the person on the phone. Most telemarketers act like the company that pays them is god and no matter what went wrong the customer is at fault. So you are in a bad position from the beginning of the call. I hate dealing with people on the phone and choose not to do business with companies that will not talk with you face to face. So be more sympathetic or get a real job.
