Do you collect receipt from your purchases?

I got this habit of getting and collecting receipts from different type of purchases, food, clothes, grocery, even with small purchases in supermarkets. Then after sometime, I'll compute it all in all to find out how much do I spend with those stuffs, I collected about pHp 20,000 for the last 6 months. From there I get to realize where do I bring my money. How about you? Do you collect receipts to know how much do you spend? How much can you spend with only a single purchase in going to malls?

It is a good habit! Additionally we could go back to the malls to get the goods changed or refunded by the receipts if flecked or damaged.

I have think of that too... but there's a allotted days for returning or change the products you have brought I remember my friend and I returned a shirt in a certain boutique, the price wasn't the same and we haven't gotten the money back, from the change. Well, that's the thing... Terms are just like that.

I hang onto receipts if they have some kind of warranty or if I think I might need to return them. Otherwise, I put everything I spend into my Quicken program and it keeps track of everything for me. If I categorize my entries, it tells me exactly how much I am spending on anything.

The only time I maintain and keep receipts is if I have made a purchase with my debit card. But that's only until I am able to record the amount(s) spent in my bank book. Then they get shredded into tiny bits and thrown away. I tend to stay within my monthly spending budget, so the only times I really have to recalculate my spending is if the utility companies I go through decide to raise rates, resulting in a larger bill than what it is normally or if I decided to splurge and get myself a few unnecessary, but I just had to have things.

I don't do that as I don't like clutters in my house and I don't to go through a stage where I would feel ashamed of my spending attitude I know I spend a lot, from small purchases to groceries, my family really spends a lot, specially on food

I collect all receipts from all purchases. They are kept in an envelope with the month written on it. If need be, I can find what I'm looking for if there is a problem. After a year, they're destroyed. I almost sound like an organized individual. Not so about everything.

My receipts are kept by semester... so, it's big bulky bag with lots of receipts... so, in case I have to look for a certain one, I scatter it all over my room... Such a mess!

i though I was the only one who collects reciepts. I have a whole lot of it, in case i need to return something. sometimes, I collected reciepts for the whole year, then discard it. Hmmm you last question makes me think for a while....I think the biggest one (just for me without buying any furniture or other stuff for the house) is around 1,000 USD ? I splurge myself into a Coach bag and other stuff that day...but that was the first and last ! lol, i think i was just carried away during that time.

No....i do get it home and feed the data into my system so that it would be easy to maintain (i am a person who keeps forgetting where things are kept), so if its in a computer, it would be of much help to me in many ways even to compare them monthly wise, etc

On personal things I hold on to them until I am sure the items fit ( for clothes) or work. Then I get rid of them. But in Real Estate I am an independenr contractor, I do not have salary, I am paid a commission only when the deal is finished ( and it is a smaller amount than most people assume as it is split 4 ways). So I pay my own taxes and Social security and have tp keep track of ALL my expenses, so I can use them asa a tax deduction. So I have a large file of receipts.

I do, all of the times. I just put them in my wallet, because you never know when they will come in handy xD. Sometimes it's just required when you need to return them in case something happens. It's a common thing to do I guess, since where I work at, when I give the receipts to people, most of the times they just put them in their wallets. Now after reading this discussion, I checked my wallet and I got surprised to see a receipt of something I paid like 3 months ago xD!. I think I need to clean it and throw away all the garbage lol!

If I save them its not intentionally. I usually throw them all away after a few weeks. I should probably do the same as you though! I need to start saving money instead of wasting it every where. I spend at least 100 a week on stuff I really dont need =[ I just don't know where I would keep them however. My life is so unorganized lol.

I save some receipts. However I think I should save them all just to really see what we spend. It seems to be a great budgeting idea. I am a waitress and sometimes it is so hard to bypass some extra item that I come across. It is the mentality I can spend this $20, I can replace it tomorrow. I may start to implement that idea. Thanks!

I collected most of my receipt mostly the Toll Way receipt...so that I can reimburse it to my office. Other receipt are mostly monthly shopping so that I can keep track on spending. After recording the spending I usually throw it away...except credit card receipt.
