Texas Dogs Are Here In Minnesota

Well seems one of our Humane Societies has taken in almost 100 displaced dogs from Texas due to Hurricane Ike. These dogs were either found abandonded or were strays. They need health work done like shots, check ups etc. But within a weeks time they will be available for adoption. Now the issue is that these dogs need a lot more care than a regular adopted dog. They first will need to acclimate their bodies to the different weather here, mainly the cold and snow. At least they brought their coats. Hahahaha! Bad joke but couldn't resist it anyhow. They also had been left alone for an exte3nded period of time and need to get accustomed to people etc again. I wished I could afford anotjher dog as I'd love to get one of these to do my share in helping out with them. Have you ever adopted a pet from a Humane Society type of place? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I hope they can find new homes, I would hope they would let people know that may be looking for their pet, that they are at least in a good place. I talk to my sister yesterday, she lives on the Galveston Bay, there is still around 400 people missing, and that's just counting the ones that had family that listed them missing. I did have a golden retriever that was a pound puppy, although I actually got her from a friend who had gotten her from the pound. We had her for 14 years, and she was one of the best dogs I ever had.

Buster - Our loyal and loved Buster.
Owners were sought out prior to them being transported here to Minnesota. As I stated a lot of these were strays, no license or tags etc. A lot were puppies as well. My beaglew Buster was given to us by our daughter. She got him at a Humane society as well. Here's a photo of Buster recently. He is about 6 or 7 years old at least I think. How neat that there is a place for these unfortunate animals. I am a cat person, and I usually take strays off the street. I liked your bad joke. I think they will get lots of love from the people in Minnesota.

Yes, one of the best little dogs we ever had (Smokie) was a pound puppy. Well I say pound puppy, not sure his age then. He was a small mixed breed and was so loving, fun and funny and great with the kids. When we moved to the country some sorry so n so decided to put out poison and killed our dog, a baby poodle next door and a big Doberman next door to them. Too bad we could never prove that it was that farmer.

The other two families and us thought about it really hard and strong since the man did have a bunch of cows but we figured that would not be the thing to do since we all had kids.

I don't have any pets, and I have never adopted any pets. I do watch Animal Precinct on Animal Planet. And I admire Texas for their role in helping pets. If I was in Minnesota I would adopt one of those dogs. I believe that the animals will adapt to the weather real well. Keep me posted on this situation. I am a concerned animal and pet lover.. I have a grand dog.

A long time ago, in the '70's I got a cat from the Humane Society/city pound. When we found Oliver, one of my vets had a couple of Rita rescues, one who had a litter of kittens, but she was a bit sick so they didn't want to put Oliver with her litter. Just as well, since we can now say that he's never spent a single night not at our house since we got him.

I did like you silly joke. I have adopted from the dog pound but not from the humane society. I adopted Abagail from the Last Hope Cat kingdom through Pet's Mart in town. What you might do to help out is buy a bag of dog food and take it to the shelter for the dogs. I know you are like the rest of us strapped for cash but this is a way to help out without the added expense of another dog. I have done that before and they do appreciate the help of food.

Hello Grandpa Bob. I hope that all of those dogs find their homes with their masters. If you have decided to adopt one, make sure that you take a picture of him for us to have a look at the dog. Happy posting, Bob.

I've got several pets from shelters and loved them as much as you can love any animal. I can't have pets where I am now (Shirley is outside only now), but when I get settled in NC again one of the first things I'm going to do is visit the local shelter. I've even thought about fostering.

I think its great that other states are helping our people and animals displaced here in Texas. Ike was more devastating than many people realize. Just today they said on the news that one town of almost 9000 people only has 12 buildings left standing. Imagine. And another report said 400 people were swept out to sea and have not been found yet. I have adopted from the Humane Society before and they do a wonderful job. My cat Jade was a rescue cat.

Hi GRANDPA BOB, How sad that these poor dogs lost everything, their owners and their homes, I hope their owners comes looking for them, at least they are the lucky ones that have been found. I have a cat that I got from the cat protection centre and he is now 10 years old, I got him when he was a little ball of fluff, he is so adorable. Tamara

I have 4 dogs all from the pound from being dumped or mistreated. I have a golden lab male and a black lab x kelpie female, a staffie x kelpie female and a ridgeback x female. They are the best and my mates, better than humans. I wish i could have more. I watch animal shows also and wish i could help more. I live in Australia and wish all the pooches from texas a new and happy life whether it be with there owners or new homes. Please keep us informed.

I adopted a dog from the humane society/SPCA here back on the long weekend of September. Hes a very nice dog and I enjoy him but hes a little thief and drives me absolutely quacky because what he steals he destroys or leaves in my driveway. Its great that they took them in...too bad that they couldnt find their owners before they left the state as now they'll have to track them down and theres alot that wouldnt bother.
