We had our first permanent snowfall, and yesterday and today I went out to shovel the snow. There was not much and I could have used the broom. But I noticed that from past years, I would be all gunghoo and go shoveling, but later on it would really blizzard and dump about four inches of snow overnight, all on our sidewalk, so that after a month of this, I would just give up. I mean I had to go out in the am and shovel and an hour or so again it would snow or it would keep snowing while I was shoveling and if I waited I would have like those people losing the way into their house because the snow covered the door. So I gave up, just smooth tne snow, just take off the top layer and that would do it. So do you not shovel as much near the end of the winter season or will you do it every day?

I shovel everything completely and spread salt, too, if there's danger of ice. Here, people will sue you if they slip on your sidewalk or your steps. Even your own family might sue you! So I'm very, very careful.

I watch those judge shows, and I see many stupid cases, but I really have to shovel the back from the back door to the garage because my husband needs a cane and he might slip and fall. So I guess we will have to get some salt, or use that id iodized salt which is a good thing since salt is bad for him anyway.

Riyasam, There are actually several TV shows that have real trials on them, & OFTEN you see families in court suing one another. SOMETIMES the judges can mend the rifts, others don't care all that much. Reality TV blows, but it seems to get great ratings. Maybe it's still so prevalent because it's just so cheap to produce.... I just wish it would go away. Maggiepie

Happy shovelling :) I don't know what a snow is. I do envy you having all the snow when we don't have any. I would like to live at least for a week surrounded by one snow and the coldness. It would be a great white christmas.

I will be glad to send some to you. but I guess you would not like the ice that comes under it. The only time I love snow is around Christmas and that is because it looks picture postcard perfect.

I tend to shovel every day it snows enough to warrant shoveling. Thankfully, I'm not responsible for too much of an area, and I also have 3 sons who want to do some shoveling. I try to keep my front steps and short walkway cleared of all snow as much as possible, and try to get at it before anyone has a chance to step in it. It keeps from getting packed snow there that can either trail in the house or turn to ice if there's some thawing or (freezing) rain.

Our house is besides the lane and when it really snows it blows over the walk from our door to the street. I am thinking that maybe we should move the sidewalk to the side of the house but that will take a lot of trouble.

I have relatives living in Winnipeg so I know you have a lot of snow now. I now live in Calgary and we had some snow but it is now all gone. The winters in Winnipeg, as you well know, are wicked and so I love living in Calgary as our winters are mild. We get what is called, chnooks. It is a warm wind that blows in from BC and it can change, and does change, our weather from 30 below to 20 above, from morning to afternoon, that quickly. I love it. We never get more than a week of cold weather, at a time, because of these chnooks. I could never go back to Winnipeg, permanetly, because of the weather. I hate Winnipeg winters and will never to one again. Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend. Your friend, Chris

My husband does the main part of the shovelling. I will do it if I have to since I have a history of back problems. We are required to keep our main sidewalk clear by city ordinance. But I think I understand what you are saying. Sometimes you just can't see the point in shovelling if the snow just continues to fall. We have the same thing right now with leaves. We waited a bit this year and raked them all after most had fallen. The tricky part is to do it before it snows or to try to fit in the raking between rainy days. This year, our plan worked

I will got leaves on the lawn. I raked a lot and put them on our garden. My husband says they do no good and bag them and put them out for the city, but then we would have to buy dirt. Does that make any sense? We do not have a sidewalk in front of our place, so I just shovel down the walk but then the snow will drift over and bury it the next day.

I would be happy to just get a steady heavy snowfall? I think everyone around here would! We did not get any snow last year except for a few flakes that amounted to zip! And we use to get at least two big snowfalls every winter! It has been at least 5 years since the kids have ben able to sled!

Just wait until you have to go out the next day and the night before the city plow puts the snow so it blocks your driveway. The only way we can get our driveways or our sidewalks not blocked is to park our car right in front and then we have to plug in the heater as well.

Wen I lived in Utah were it does snow would have to shovel specially the driveway for it is a hill. also put salt on it so no ice would form. Have to shovel evry day it snows for if some one fell you could get sued.

I no longer live in that type of environment, but when I did I shoveled it right away. I thought it was easier doing it everyday.

I cannot imagine, because here in Houston we are still in early 80's,beautiful days of sunshine...We are still wearing shorts here and short sleeves...It never snows here and it takes forever to get cold...We have a mild climate in this location...I am sitting here on my laptop, with my door ajar & the kids are out playing in the yard..It gets just a coolness at night but not cold,it just feels good...

We don't get snow that often. I love to watch it snow, though. We live in an apartment, so we don't shovel snow.

I raked leaves yesterday To me it is easier to shovel as it comes down, you may have to do it more, but the quantity of snow to remove at one time is less. BUT, I usually wait until it is done because after you shovel the plows comes back and block you in again. Plus in my town the snow has to be shoveled within a certain timeframe after it has fallen. I do not live on a high pedestrian traffic street, but the snow has to be removed. I do not mind shoveling the soft fluffy snow, but the wet heavy snow is another story.

Really? Is that good or what? Sorry I have no idea since we haven't experienced snowfalls here in the Philippines. We usually experience it in amusement parks. But I think it is really different having the real thing. Anyway, I also like to experience snowfalls though I am really weak in cold.

Wow snowing already? It hasn't started here but I'm sure it's going to in the next few weeks or so. It's getting colder here. Luckily we live in an apartment building and our building management team take care of shoveling snow and stuff. I hope Winter doesn't get too bad this year.

I shovel the front walk so that it doesn't get slippery. But when I comes to the driveway, since it is a gravel drive, I only shovel that when the snow is too high for the car..

When you shovel snow that is enough for me. I"m glad that I don't live where I have to shovel snow. Even though I have lived in NY before and from time to time I did shovel snow. But I know you have your work cut out for you if it snows really heard. That has to be a lot of work. Have a good one.

Snow! I haven't seen snow for 50 years! I remember going sledding in the fields and snowball fights with my friends. Waking up and seeing the world was all white! That particularly itchy/painful feeling of chillblains. Geez, this brings back memories. Shoveling the snow was only for grown-ups, although us kids did try to help. I miss having four seasons. Here in sunny Queensland, we have two, wet and very warm, and dry and not quite so warm. I have not owned a sweater for twenty years. Enjoy your snow!
