well guys you know that I was too sick to work and I had to leave my job in 2005, you know that I used up all my unemployment insurance benefits, and tried to go back to school to improve my french to get a job again. You know that I worked 3 days after all that school (4 months) and had to quit cause I was still too sick. Then I fell on welfare because I had no means of support. Then I fought with the doctors to sign a form to go on disability. Every specialist that I went to said the government would not grant me disability for diabetes and fibromyalgia. I changed MD's and this new MD listened and said the best that he could do for me was to ask for temporary disability at least this way I would get a bit extra money to live on. I applied I got it but was disappointed I did not get a whole lot extra. Anyhow they had me jumping through hoops for tests and more tests and had me go back 3 times in a year to have the doctor fill the form out again, Then they refused me the last time, claiming that I had exhausted all that the government offered for temporary disability. I turned around and applied for permanent disability and added on other conditions that the doctor never wrote down. I was scared I wasn't going to get it but I did. The welfare transferred my file to the disability pension office, and yes I do get more now but here is what I just got in the mail today: The ninsitere do l'emploi et do la Solidarite Sociale has exchanged information with the Regie des rentes du Quebec in accordance with the act respecting access to documents.... The purpose of this.....to verify whether you had made sufficient contributions to the Regime de rentes du Quebec to qualify for a disability pension. If you are entitled to a disability pension, the officer ....will notify you and assist you in submitting an application to the Regie. If you are not entitled to a disability pension, you have no steps to take and the Ministere de l'Emploi ...will continue to pay you the assistance to which you are entitled. What a load of crap. When will they just leave me alone. Has anyone ever had this much hoopla trying to file a government claim?

Government stuff takes for eer . My hubby had to get a lawyer and go to thier Doctors for all kinds of tests. And then we had to go to a court before he got his SS disability. took 2 years with no money comeing in. Daughter and I worked to keep food onthe table and pay bills during tis time. Pray that all goes well for you.

I haven't ever filed a claim. My sister in law has tried 4 times and with a lawyers help even to set my husbands niece SSI and she got turned down each time even though she is bi-polar,obese,depressed,and only scored 2 points higher then the test allowed. It was only allowed 23 and she scored 25 on her mental ability test. She is a seventeen year old child that acts closer to a 6-8 year old. I am sorry to hear that they are at it again and won't give you peace which you would find some if you knew everything was settled and you would be drawing full time.

That does suck. I have borderline diabetes but not fibromyalgia, but I guess they want to have physical proof like using a walker, a cane, being in a wheelchair or having a broken arm to make sure that you are disabled. What the government does not realize that if you are in pain or any physical disability it is hard for you to walk or get a ride to the doctor's office. And if you do not make that much, how do they expect you to contribute to a disability pension?

Yes. I am hoping for a change since we have a new president now. Only time will tell. It is time that some good changes are made in the government.

Those that don't really need the benefits get them and those that can't are refused. Go figure. I know many people who qualify for benefits and have been denied again and again.

This same situation arises all over the world unfortunately, or at least in those countries which pay some sort of social security pension/benefit. I don't think it matters whether you are talking about claiming benefits for unemployment, disability or aged pensions. Thankfully I am still fit and active and able to work so am not in the same sort of situation but I do know people who are. There are a few differences here in Australia in that returned service personnel come under a separate department for their pensions. That is whether it is a disability pension or when they reach retirement age. Everyone else is covered by Centrelink. We also have medicare and any Australian resident is entitled to receive free medical treatment at any of the public hospitals or go to their own doctor if they choose to do so. Some doctors will bulk bill and it doesn't cost the person anything and in other cases the person had to pay the doctor and claim the cost back. They do not get the full amount of the visit refunded though. Most medicines are subsidised as well here and there are different rates for pensioners and low income earners. One of the problems here in Australia is that, unfortunately, there are a lot o people who will scam/cheat the system. I am not even implying/suggesting/thinking that you are or anyone else in your country is cheating but it does go on far too often here in Australia. However we have 2 friends who work for Centerlink which is our social security department here. They have both said in the past that after dealing with the 1000th scammer/cheat, the staff end up becoming very cynical. In addition some people do not take kindly to their claim being rejected, so the staff receive an earful of verbal abuse. I am not defending the staff but have seen first hand the results of someone abusing and threatening them. Centrelink will often send those claiming the disability pension or sickness benefit to a doctor to be medically examined plus have any necessary diagnostic tests done. This appointment and any tests that are done are paid for by the department and not the clamant. If the doctor does not support the claim, then the claimant will simply go to one (or more) doctors who will write a report contradicting the one the department has organised. To be honest I am not sure what the answer is but I do know that those who cheat the system (and many will get through the screening process), will make it extremely hard for those who are genuine. As usually happens, it is the rotten minority who stuff it up for the genuine majority. Good luck with your claim and I hope that you receive a positive response to the claim that you have made. In the meantime, do not stress as I am sure that will make the fibromyalgia worse and much more painful for you.

the claim is accepted, it is a matter what department and I certainly hope that I do not have to fill out any more forms I have done enough already.

Oh yeah, we have filled out tons of the stuff. My husband was injured in 1989, and it took over 3 years, and all of our saving before he finally got his disability. Even after he got it they would contact him to take more tests, ect. In 1997 I was in an auto accident, which started a downward spiral in my health. My doctors tell me this is not unusual, that one thing sets off many more. I can't get the disability at all, I didn't work long enough. Being a wife and mother, plus farming while hubby worked away from home doesn't count at all!! I sit here with absolutely no medical insurance, the two of us living totally on hubby's social security [it changed to reg. ss when he turned 65]. I SHOULD be able to draw on ss next birthday, but still won't be able to get medicare until I am 65. It's tough, but we manage. I shudder to think of people who have reached this point in life with large existing debt, we had none but it still took all we had saved.

Yeap welcome to our lovely country better known as Canada. I was born in 1950 and Canada Pension went into affect in 1966 and I worked full time employment since the age of 15 so do the math I paid since CPP went into effect. In 1999 I was deamed unfit for employment by three different doctors and my family doctor was also an anesthesiologist, and said I wasn't even strong enough to recover surgery if they could do it. I applied for disability and had more doctor reports than you could possibly imagine. I was refused, so I went to tribunial. Again I was refused. They did however admitt I had more than qualified for bennifits according to my contributions. I was refused totally and this was the final explanation. Although it is well written and doctor signed that I suffer from Asthma, need both knees replaced, I have fibromyalgia, a bone defect in the back of my neck, lower back disorder causing pressure on my spinal cord and had a heart attack, it is believed that all these things didn't just happen suddenly and work records showed that I was actively employed and working long hours from the beginning of CPP having gone into effect till 1999. Therefore I was told that with the excellent work record I had and the level of intelligence in recieving all my certificates etc. etc. there should be no reason why I could'nt obtain seditary employment. Hell some days I can barely get out of bed. When I reminded them I didn't have computer knowledge for seditary employment all they said was, "That's not our problem." Nice ... So do I know what you're talking about OH YES all too well my dear friend. ALL TOO WELL

I have never gone through all this yet but i really feel soo much for you. In my country in our cultural system children are responsible to take good care of their parents in old age and they all do soo by their own will as their moral and religious duty. Europe nd US have disturbed family system, on the name of personal freedom they are abusing family values.

This sounds very stressful. I am sorry you are having to go through all of this. The most we have ever had to deal with the government in that way was when my husband lost his job a couple of years ago and had to file for unemployment. Aside from the fact the unemployment barley covered the Cobra insurance we didn't have any problems. We were lucky enough to find a temporary insurance policy that only cost $300 for the whole famiy. He did eventually get another job after 3 months, thank goodness. We were starting to get really scared at that point.
