Hmmm, it was 15 years ago when my father was still alive. I dont know ifw are going to have one at home this year but i guess all the same. We just had lights on but not the christmas tree, with the christmas tree around would seem so lonely coz it always reminds me of father. Thank you for sharing in advance and have a nice day!

I am thirty years old and I have never had a year where I have not had a tree or my parents have not had one... I came close to not having one this year but then my husband surprised with one! I can't imagine Christmas without a tree!!! Fifteen years is such a long time! I am sure your Father would not want this for you and your family to not have a tree..... Take Care and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas! ~Heavens~

Well said heavens. Although 'everyone' is different, to me the beauty of a tree, reflects the memories of all of those who are no longer with us. It causes me to remember happy childhood days, and my parents. It also gives 'us' joy to hang the special ornament my (late) husband made, and to pause for a moment in memory of him, as per my response here.

That is a pretty long time not to have a Christmas tree in your home... and i think you should have one... just to show that you have already accepted his passing... and that you know in your heart that he is happy where he is right now... I don't have a big christmas tree in my apartment... because i have no place for it... i have a very small one which i will just put on top of the fridge... to replace the poinsettia i bought... because it is now dying...

I knew a lovely lady who saved a beautiful Christmas card with a picture of a tree. She framed it and put it up on her TV every year. She said that was all the Christmas tree she needed.

The last time I had a Christmas tree at home was when I still lived at home. I moved out into my own place in 2002, and the place wasn't big enough for a Christmas tree. Besides, with a cat around, it wouldn't be practical to have a tree in here. He'd just climb it.

Our cat likes to chew on the branches of the artificial tree, and to sleep underneath it. She too enjoys the tree each year. On Christmas Eve, we take her upstairs with us, and close the bedroom door, so she won't get at the gifts underneath it. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Last year, my mom always puts up the Christmas tree. But now, since our very old Christmas tree is broken...we don't have one up yet. And I don't think that she's planning to put one up. Its weird, cause I can't really feel the spirit of Christmas if the tree is not up in our house.

well, it was only this time of my life that i saw one christmas tree at home. we usually have at my lolas.it was event there last october. hehe.. but unfortunately, at my hometown, we usually do not have. uhmm, we have!! our guava tree! it was a live guava tree, all we did was to put christmas lights on it, and every christmas, we have a little reunion within us and then we gather in that area.. haha.. but here in iligan, it was more of a formal celebration. the gifts are really placed under the tree and we open it before midnight.. i wonder what my gift would be this year...

The last two years we have had potted plants that are small pine trees. Not the same, and I manage to kill them eventually. This year we will take the grandkids to cut a real tree. I may put all the old artificial ones on the front porch for a Christmas forest.

We don't put one up at my house but my parents do and so do my in-laws. We are not at our house for Christmas, we go to both of their houses. I think it is too much of a hassle to put a tree up here when we aren't here for very long to enjoy it. Especially with a toddler and two dogs in the house. Those two get into so much stuff! I could just see one of them pulling down the tree.

Hello dear zelmarq c",) I'm so sorry to hear about that, sad that a christmas tree reminds you about a past hurt.. A christmas tree should remind us of Christmas and it means happiness in our hearts. I cannot blame you though because it is never easy to forget the pain. I suggest that you make new memories with your family right now with a tree in your house, and let the spirit of Christmas be upon you. You have all the right to be happy and you have a family to share it with. Advance Merry Christmas!!!

Thank you for the reminder my friend. I have realized that theres no way but to think that these season a child was born, a child born to save mankind and thats the best gift we could think about or even imagine. sometimes christmas is just about the world and the commercialized notion of all the gifts and stuff, christmas is about our sinful nature and washed by the blood of God. I thank God for the family He gave me and theres enough reason to celebrate and create wonderful memeories Thank you for sharing and have a nice day!

We always have a tree for Christmas except last year..we just hang decors. We didn't made one because the place we stayed was a bit smaller and since we've planned to transfer to our own house soon, God-willing, we will just put up one big tree there.

Well this year our christmas tree was being fixed last october.lol my mom is kinda excited.

Last year I put a christmas tree in the where I live, and probably would be the last Christmas tree. I can't do it anymore because our room is too small now.. I've moved into a new house already sisnce I got married. I love christmas trees though... so when we will have a bigger house that is one thing that I would buy frist for christmas.

We always have a christmas tree up every year. We never miss out on it even if we don't have enough money to spend Christmas for gifts and food. We have our Christmas tree up this year but there's no lights on it. It got busted. I can't afford to buy a new one. I also am lacking money to buy something to put under it and it's sad because I have 5 kids who will be looking forward for it. I am sorry in what your famiky is going through but I guess a Christmas tree won't hurt. I believe wherever your dad is he wants you all to be happy in a special occasion like this. Take care and Happy holidays to you and your family.

You are lucky to get those there. Here in the Philippines it is hard to get something for free. It's just like looking for a needle in a haystack. Since what happened to the economy everything is down this days. I can't get anything free here.

I picked a lot of my ornaments up after Christmas at the after Christmas sales or on Ebay (got tons of icicle lights there cheap with free shipping because I bought 5 boxes and they were only like $2 each). I picked up a couple every year and now we have enough for a tree, even though we don't put one up yet. It's still early enough to get some and get them before Christmas. I notice a lot of stores are doing 50% off sales before Christmas now, as well as higher %-off sales after. I see that you aren't from the US but are there not places there to help with the holdays? There are places here that will give you a few gifts per child and also food baskets so you'll have the stuff needed to make a nice dinner on Christmas and they also do it for Thanksgiving. Sometimes you have to hunt for these places, but a lot of times churches offer them (like the Salvation Army) or independent organizations like Toys for Tots (the Marine Corps) and such. Lots of the stores around here have trees where a child's likes and sizes are placed on a tree and someone that doesn't have kids to buy for, or has a little extra money, will shop for the child. The name of the child isn't given, just a number which only the store handling the tree knows who it is, so it's private. Walmart has one this year and KMart usually does. Lots of the bigger stores offer this. It might be to late this year, but you could look into it for next year if it is. Just call the stores and see if they offer something like this and how you get on the list. It's usually by income based on the size of your family. With 5 kids, unless you make a lot of money, I don't know why you wouldn't qualify for some help from someone.

My husband and I have a tree, we've just never put one up. Since he was in the military, and we always went home for Christmas (anywhere from 800-2000 miles away, depending on where we were stationed at the time), we never bothered. Both of our sons are Autistic and don't understand holidays and actually, my oldest doesn't like wrapping paper. He gets upset that he is supposed to tear the paper off and he doesn't like it. He doesn't want to tear the pretty paper, so we use gift bags for his stuff and he spends most of the unwrapping time for the rest of us watching cartoons. Our youngest doesn't understand the holidays, either. I hope to be able to decorate eventually, since we now live back home, but I'm not stressing over it. We have a tree and some other stuff I have been picking up slowly over the past 11 years, but we don't put anything out. Oh, wait! Yes we do! I did buy a tabletop fiberoptic tree a few years ago for our oldest son. He liked the way it changed colors by itself. I don't need to decorate it, since it has the lights "built in", but both boys still enjoy it. :)

there has never been a year tat we didn't have a tree. my parents have always had a tree at there house, and it has always been at least 6' tall. since being out on our own, i have always had a tree, and only one year was it a small one, i lived in an apartment by myself, that was 4 years ago. my sister always puts up a tree every year, until this year, they are still living in a hotel due to hurricane ike, but she is at our parents' home helping mom decorate and getting the tree up today. both my daughters also decorate for christmas and have a tree. i agree with other responses, 15 years is a long time, and do you really believe your father would have wanted it that way? your family not putting up a tree.

I've never had a year without a Christmas tree. Last year my family had a new puppy in the house around Christmas time. So instead of getting a full size tree that he would just chew on and knock over, we got a little tree. We put it up on a table where the puppy couldn't reach it. It was a potted, live tree. So after Christmas we planted it in our yard!

We have a christmas tree every year at my house, so that would be the last twenty years of my life. Even though we dont celebrate it at our house, but at my aunts, it is just a godo way tot bring the family together as one, and helps us all to just calm down, take a deep breath, and love in each other.
