You ever know one of "those" people?

Oh you know, they are nice people but they just don't think? I know my friends here hear about my 2 roomies. One, as I think most of you know is visually impaired. The other one you don't hear as much about. Well, all summer, she would turn the thermostat warmer when she left for work, to try and keep the house bills at a reasonable level. GREAT! Well, one day this week, she left for work and it was cold outside. She STILL turned the thermostat warmer... Now, the roomie works from home and here it should be cold and she is SWEATING. She gets up and finds that the temp is set about 90! And that's in the front room! (We really need to find a way to move the thermostat into the rest of the house because the front room is now kind of cut off from the rest of the house.) So, I had to make a little sign (this gal uses signs to remember if she's put her dog out!) and put it on the thermostat with arrows to the left for Winter and the right for Summer. So, do you know anyone this dingy?

Yes, I know ding-bat people. I often wonder how they get along in life and are still alive! LOL I have done the sign things, too. Isn't it just common sense? I guess some people hear God say, when giving out sense, "No, I have enough cents so I will pass?"

Yes. Me!*LOL* Well, as far as the thermostat goes, anyway. I never can remember which way I am supposed to turn it to make it colder or warmer. Same thing with the water in the kitchen. I always turn both knobs at the same time. Then, when I need to make it warmer or cooler, I can't remember which way to turn the knobs to do so. I usually end up turning the cold water the wrong way, and burning myself with the hot water. Directions are not my strong suite.*L*

My former roommate once made a small pair of signs for a friend's car with "L" and "R" on them so she'd know which was left and right!

Kind of. My parents are friends with a very nice couple. He is smart, she is a bit of a ditz, but they are both very nice and kind. One day my parents met this couple at a restaurant. My parents had brought another couple, the wife was about five feet tall, and her balding husband is around 5'3. As soon as the first couple walks in, the wife looks at the 5'3 man and says, hey, you look like Danny DeVito! Oh man, her husband was embarrassed and so were my parents. And she had no clue what she had said was rude!

Yes, I've known some people like that. I even sometimes double check things to make sure I did things right. Then again I have put my car keys in the frig. LOL!

My mom put the instant coffee in the fridge one time, instead of the cupboard, and then couldn't find it the next time she wanted to make a cup of coffee.

I'm sure we've all run into at least one "overly blonde" person at one time or other. I hope your sign works to keep things comfortable, on all levels.

Unfortunately, yes. I mentioned that I should leave a note for her about something and the person I said this to said, "She loses her notes." Unfortunately, because of her position, a number of handicapped people are adversely affected by her dingy-ness. Before I found out that I was going to get my program co coordinator position, I had nightmares that they fired her, and gave me her job.

Sounds like people could only be helped by getting her job. Ah well, probably get more with your new job.

My new job puts me equal to her, just co ordinating for people I already know and am attached to, with fewer serious health and behavior problems.

people can say I am that way now, as I get older, I am not as sharp as I used to be. I do some silly things that are not intentional and I hope that my friends and family will understand that I do my best.

I think there's a difference between aging lack of sharp and this gal. She's almost a walking disaster. She can't get ready in the morning without 4 or 5 trips all over the house.

Yes I have a friend who is a teacher and I cannot understand how they let her teach. She parked in down a little ways from my home behind a hedge, mind you she always parks there when she is at my house. When she went to leave the other night she said "I hope I can remember where I put my car." She was serious. She forgot where her car was. I stood outside on the front stoop to make sure she went the right way to her car. She said go inside it is cold out here. I said "I am making sure you find your car first.

That is what I hear but not all teachers are like that. Her dad had Alzheimer and I think she is getting it also but she will not admit it. She is a vegetarian and I wonder if that may be she is not getting enough protein.

Oh I think we've all known a few that are like that. Makes us wonder if they were dropped on their heads when they were born! lol We just have to keep an eye on them so they don't get US into trouble because of their stupidness. What about getting a cover for the thermostat so she can't change the temperature anymore? That might be a wise move on yours and your other roomies part.

Well, normally we don't mind that she turns the thermostat so it won't run all the time, but when she turned it the wrong way, it ran all the time.

I've known a few like that, though not very well. My dad is a boffin, which is just a fancy word for 'scatter brained scientist', and he often dose things similar. My sister is showing signs of being the same too. Even I can be a bit like that sometimes. Though, right now, finding an example is going to be impossible as I am soooo tired and my brain has shut down. lol.

I have held this discussion in abeyance while I tried to think if I did know anyone like you described. I had finally decided to comment and just say I couldn't think of anyone when suddenly an old memory popped into my head. When I was just a little girl, so long ago I can't imagine why this memory surfaced, I was spending some time with my Dad and Step mom. I remember they were searching the house for the alarm clock. They couldn't find it anywhere. Finally they gave up and my Dad went to get something out of the refrigerator. When he opened the door the clock was sitting beside the milk. My step mom denied putting it there but no one else would own up to it. I remember my Dad saying she was scatterbrained.
