Do you consume raw green chilies with your meals?

Raw green chilly - How a raw green chilly looks.

I have observed many persons consuming raw green chillies to spice up their meals. Though, it is very pungent in taste, yet it is a rich source of vitamin ‘C’ and some other vitamins. Raw green chillies also help our body to keep warm. I cannot bear chillies, so I rarely consume it with meals. What about you, do you consume it with your salad or meals and do you enjoy it? Please share your experiences with me. Thanks in advance.

....ah.......see just the thought of biting raw green chillies is making water come out of my eyes, nose and mouth .Ah, Dpk......here in Kerala we eat spicy food and raw green chilli is often ground with other ingredients while cooking and consumed. But no,I dont bite raw green chilli with my meals...But I do cut and add raw green chillies to salads, but meticulously remove them when consuming salad.......But meals without chilli is really blant.....And Dpk if you do not like chilli ,then you dont know what you are missing out....

Hi deepak how are u well, to be honest, 2-3 green chiliies are used in our day to day curry for smell and taste along with red pepper, as far as raw chilli is concern, well dont eat as much but with some dishes it look good. i like to have raw ginger, some raw chilli, friend oninin and some lemon with Haleem. In Dahi Bhale and Aalo chaney, little raw chilli taste good, and sure in some salads where u have boiled peam sweet pea, corns, macronis, it taste add. what u think and dont forget green chili pickle in vinegar as well as in mustard oild and if u have it with paratha, hmmm, sound yummy i think its mouthwatering now so i should stop it take care

Hi Cupie andAps....Aree wah....Parathas for breakfast and lunch.....yummy...I love aaloo waalee parathas and when it comes to pickles I am not much fussy about the colour of pickles....Green or red or what ever......But if Dpk insists on green chilles only, then too no problem..... But where has Dpk diappeared?.....Do you think he has gone to test if biting green chillies can keep him warm......?....

Yes, Deepak, I do though I must admit that I search out the smallest and thinnest ones in my tub. You should see my hubby, he will take out the largest ones and in two bites, they are gone! Amazing! But yes, they add a zing to our food, especially if its bland. I love them most with a very simple combi meal which I make when I am lazy…rice, egg, potato all boiled together (the rice should be real soft and squishy), add some butter or ghee, salt and have it hot with green chillies. Its fast, yummy, nutritious and perfect for rainy days or cold weather.

HI! Sudipta! Oh! You appear great to me that you can consume the thinnest one, tiny chillies are more pungent, I suppose. Your formula of simple combi meal with raw green chillies look great to me. Thanks for joining and making the discussion more spicy....LOL!

Green Chillies.......lol........Hot Discussion..... No Deepak, I cannot eat raw green chillies. I don't know how people can it them raw. When I was in Gujarat, I saw people eating snacks which are already full of green chillies and plus they eat raw green chillies with it....I really don't know how. I tried once and I got non stop hiccups.....so I never tried again. I like to put some in snacks just to get some flavour. If used in limited quantity it really makes food very tasty. Also I like to fry green chillies sometimes in gram flour, but only after I take out the seeds which make them more pungent. As far as keeping the body warm is concerned, I think we have many other options for that.....

hello Aps.....yes this is getting to be a hot discussion.......But I generally like chillies and so dont have to look for other options to keep me warm......Actually green chilli comes in different forms .Some varieties are really hot and some are not that hot.And its true if you remove the seeds of green chillies they are less hot and can be consumed.... But I wonder why Dpk has started this discussion .I think now a days its very cold in Delhi and he must me on the look out for more options to keep himself warm???

Deepak, what is going on? Now a day, you are busy with vegetable market, green chillies etc. Have you taken the home management (kitchen department) from your best half?(lol). For answering your question, no, I am not taking raw chillies. I may add 2-3 chillies while preparing curry. We are making spicy dishes so it is difficult to consume chillies with them. But I have seen many people (in north) taking chillies in raw form. I think they are habitual. I heard that green chillies won't make any problem in stomach. Consuming more quantity of red chillies may upset your stomach.

Sree, you see whatever I observe and travel in mind, I simply convert the thought into a discussion. Afterall, new discussions should be posted to make this forum more interesting. No, I have taken over the kitchen department from better half, she is a good cook and I do not intend to disturb her. Adding chillies to vegetables is alright, that much is done by all of us to make the dish more spicy. Green chillies also cause some problems, if consumed in greater quantity, after all red chillies are made from only green chillies. Little bit of raw green chilly, once in a while, is OK, I think. Thanks for joining and sharing and making the discussion interesting.

Hello my friend dpk262006 Ji, In our house, other than for fried item, we use fresh green chilly, we dress up especially Salad with fresh green chilly, it is better for health than dry powder. We get chlorophil in bonus and it never harms us. Also, dining table will have a special look. May god bless you and have a great time.

Hello my friend dpk262006 Ji, Taking green chillies is very good for health than consumption of dy powder chillies. It is harmful. By the way do you know taht Our great Swami Vivekananda had to consume nearly 1 Kg green chilli, while he was survaving on 'Bhiksha', on eday one lady in Rajasthan area gave him green chilli, without understand complications of this, and Swamiji consumed them smilingly and accepted Gift from God. villagers brought Pure Ghee, but he declined to take, as he had taken promise to take 'Bhiksh' once a day. He had lot of burning sensation and whole stomach became red. may God bless you and have a great time.

I'm Bengali and apparently we're famous for being able to eat hot food. I do like hot food and sometimes if it's not hot enough, I will nibble at some green chillies with my meal but try not to do this very often as it could be deemed as a bit insulting to the person who's cooked the meal - in other words, saying it's not tasty enough already. Enjoyed the discussion, nice one pal!

Hehe @ spice it up - good pun pal! I was at a family friend's house on Saturday and was helping serve up the dinner - at least 6 people ask for for a couple of green chillies to have with their food (including my mum) LOL! Our host wasn't offended, she had made the food less spicy so the kids would not find it hot :)

No, I don't consume raw green chillies with my meals. I don't really like HOT and SPICY food, so I'm not fond of those either. They truly said it's an excellent source of vitamins, but compared to burning my lips and throat, I'd rather get my vitamins in other sources less painful. Happy Mylotting!

I hate hot chilies I dont care what colour, shape or form they are. I have never liked them in fact I hate hot and spicy food. Almost all my family likes eating hot food even my son who is 5 likes a bit of hot salami or spicy food. I just cant stand it. It has a bitter taste and its uncomfortable to eat there is nothing in the taste that makes me like it and because I am not used to the taste after I eat it (by acident) I always have tummy acke.

I like to have raw chillies with my meals. Though I try to avoid it everyday as I had been suffering from piles some years back and eating green chillies often will only aggravate the problem. I enjoy green chilli pickle too. And my kids also enjoy the dark green chillies which are more pungent than the light green ones.

I don't care too much for spicy food but my husband does and he enjoys the chili peppers.. He also like the Chili Renello that he gets at El Chico's, not sure about the spelling.. When we go to a certain restaurant, they serve a bar that you can get chips, bean dip, cheese and salsa.. I make my own little party with mine and the salsa has the hottest little chilis in them, they burn your mouth, your tongue and your throat, but they are so good.. I end up eating too much of this one dish and it is because of the green chilies chopped up in it..

well i do..we have a type of cuisine here called bicol express and we use those long green chilies and that is one of the main ingredients of the cuisine, it is cooked together with ground beef and coconut milk and its weird but when it is cooked, the hotness of the chili is gone when cooked, it became sweet and of course a little bit spicy but not too much...but it is delicious and thanks for the info now i know i am eating right foods lol
