how would you arrange your schedule?

Matt, my boyfriend is an accountant, and in canada accountants must attend 60 hours of seminars and lectures each year to remain abreast of the latest developments in the industry. Now he can pick and choose the seminars he wants to go to. But he went to a french one last week, because he has left them all to the end of the year (he must have them all done before May). He said he understood the gist of the seminar. And then he went out of town for two days for another, he is trying to get them all in, at the last minute. What kind of person are you, are you a procrastinator and leave everything to the end as he has, or would you start from the beginning of the year and gradually go to them all the way through without the mad rush at the end, or would you just go to the ones you liked, and then fill in the difference as needed?

The way I like to do things is that I try to get them out of the way as soon as I can. Sometimes I've done things like that at the last minute though too. But I definitely prefer not waiting to the last minute and rushing about it.

I think would really be easier to do them thru the year as really 60 hours is a long time and depends on how long the seninars are as to how fast you can get thru them. Get the hard ones out of the way then go for the easier ones.

there are no harder or easier they are just lectures, so you sit there and listen to people talk about accounting, from different aspects. I think I would go to the ones that interested me the most but I would start from the beginning of the year so that I wouldn't have to rush at the end like Matt is doing and I could relax. The ones he has gone to are all day affairs so he is credited 7 hours for each day.

When it comes to something like this I would take them throughout the year so I wouldn't be left in a frenzy. That rushed feeling is not something that I care for.

I'm one of those that has to do it right then and there or I would go nuts. I would be totally stressed out even more if I waited to the last minute to do things. I would start early as possible and go to each as needed and get it done and over with. Everyone has their own ways of doing things, my husband is exactly like Matt. He would wait to the last moment and rush to get it done and I don't know about Matt, but mine would complain while doing it. He doesn't listen to my advice about doing it earlier so he could relax later. So when he complains I block him out, because honestly it irritates me.

I think most men are like Matt and my husband, and a few women of course. They have to do it their way, because they 1. Don't like being told how he/she should do something. 2. They have always put things off until the last moment. 3. Reason why it's put off is because it's something boring and they look forward to it as much as a child looks going to a doctor for their annual shots.

Yes I am somewhat a Procrastinator. There's a lot of good chances in my life that were just passed away because I did not act immediately what supposedly to be done to acquire those good chances. I am fond of "tomorrow" "later" "next time"... this is one of my bad attitude that I really need to delete but I just don't know how. Yes I prefer to select things on top priority, next to the things I like to do first and do the rest as needed.Cheers

you have to get sixty hours in, during the year, you can pick and choose which lectures you want to take, but the procrastinator will wait and cram everything in at the end, other people do it from the beginning and then they get a chance to pick the lectures they like the best to attend that is the reward for being quick about things. as far as to stop procrastinator, there is only one way to do it, every time you say I will do it tomorrow stop and correct yourself and say no I will do it today.

Yes. That's really what I was trying to do. In fact that's the number one in the list of things I would like to change this year onwards...thanks

I am a half and half procrastinator on some things I get done as soon as I can then on others stuff I wait and wait till the last minute on it. I know I shouldn't procrastinate so I would get it done and it would leave time for error fixing if something should go wrong. Well trying to cram all that info in at one time can make you over look a few key points so I figure I would do them gradually so I can learn the new technique and gets used to them before I move on to the next new thing. I wold do the ones I liked but I would also cram one of the others ones in also so that I don't have to choke down the ones I don't like all at once.....

this is your job, your livlihood and it is the necessary study to keep your license to continue to work. At it may mean that you have to travel to get to some of the lectures, go out of town. Accountants here have families too, and obligations but if they want to keep their career they have to do it. But yes doing it as early as possible relieves the pressure at the very end.

If there is a basic list, I first would go there, and look for a major large conference or seminar that would wipe out a big chunk quickly. After that, I would take the balance, divide by ten, and do whatever number of hours I came up with per month, if possible. My goals might run like this, assuming the year begins for him in June: June, three day seminar, 24 total hours credited. Balance of required hours=36. 36 divided by ten is 3.6 hrs. monthly for the next ten months. That leaves the final month for making a professional looking report of all my seminars and also,if something gets disqualified for some reason, I have a left over month to catch things up.

that is good, I would do that too but many of these are all day affairs, but then that could be also because he procrastinated and then he has to take what is left I don't know.

I am definitely not a procrastinator. I am Johnny on the spot when it comes to paying bills or cleaning my home or getting things done in general. I cannot stand to be behind or for things to be dirty or out of place. I would fit the semars in my schedule weekly or monthly so it does not put me in a rush or a bind.

My husband procrastinates. It drives me crazy sometimes! He's an engineer who designs printed circuit boards and gets many large projects to work on but, he'll be lazy until 'crunch time', then work like mad! I see nothing of him but the back of his head, sometimes for weeks! But, he claims he works best under pressure. I'm the opposite. I may not finish something until close to it's due date, but I always start things early. It helps me to think more clearly and not feel stressed by the pressure of a time-limit. Knowing that something that needs to be done IS done is very satisfying. I would much rather have something finished and out of the way long before it's due. You never know if something is going to come along that will delay whatever it is that needs to be done. I've had a lifetime of that... things happening that interrupt my normal routine. My youngest son was a sick little boy for years due to his allergy-related asthma and I never knew when I'd be sitting in the hospital with him because it happened so often. I learned early to get the necessary things out of the way as soon as possible, just in case.

I am not a procrastinator. I would plan to spread the classes out over the course of the year so that I could lesiurely work my way through them at a comfortable pace. To keep things balanced, I would attend a class that held interest for me followed by one that I didn't and so on throughout the year.
