Freedom of Speech

Although freedom of speech is a good thing because nobody wants to live in a repressive society, do you think it is right to have religious wars on buses? should people be advertising about God on buses, or advertising there is no God on buses? If you were the bus driver in this story would you refuse to ride a bus that advertised that maybe there is no god so enjoy life anyhow? this link is for information purposes only http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1420210/buses_are_no_places_for_religious_wars.html?cat=9

I don´t believe in religious wars anywhere. I don´t think this is a subject people have to fight about. Anybody has their religion or not. Anybody has their own point of view and I think the problem here is that people have no respect for each other´s point of view, and in this case respect is everything.

Dear friend, In our place we have democracy where it is said rule by the people, for the people and of the people. But freedom of speech is limited to the influential and rich in my country India. Other who talk or ask for rights are shut their mouth indirectly and if gone to court the most of judge if questioned by a poor civil that person is also given a penalty or imprisonment for questioning the court's mistakes. Hence I feel freedom of speech to an extend is limited.

I don't know how the economy is in Canada, but isn't it a waste for The British Humanist Society to spend 140,000 thousand pounds on this. I think anyone that doesn't like this should complain to get it removed from all the buses. I mean if it had a religious quote, they it would have been removed, quicker than you said hello. Honestly, I don't think any religious sayings should be on public transportation. The city must be desperate for money to let the British Humanist Society do this. Sad that one single bus driver is upset and can't do anything because he's just one person with not a lot of money.

no there are others upset too, and yes it is a waste of money. But it puts money in the pockets of the transit commission and that is all they care about.

I did not bother anymore to open on your given link cause the situation you stated is actually happening here on our place. I thought it was just here but as what you've said it's happening there in your place. If somebody would stop them from doing that nonsense preaching they would reach to court. Those preaching people embraces their rights of speech and religion. That is why even on buses they would have the courage to preach whatever they would like to say about some religious matters and after that giving envelopes for your voluntary contribution which i would never ever give...that's the real happening on our place.. nice topic...

I believe that everyone has the right to their opinion. However I do not believe that they have the right to force everyone to see it and ride in a bus that supports it. Why is it always OK to talk against Christianity but not other religions?? The driver is right, if it was worded to upset other religions they would never have permitted it. I am a christian and would most likely take a compalint to the city officials if they did this in my home city.

I guess, m'dear...I am from the old school "live & let live"! I really pay No attention to adverts..where/when/how they are placed! And I really wished that all the world could be tolerant of each other, and respect individual choices! But, that will never happen, so "freedom of speech" is just a misnomer, as it really has a lot of ramifications and limitations! Hope you are managing to make it thru the rugged winter you are experiencing!

I think in this day in age that people should keep their religion or lack of religion to themselves or only share it with those who want to listen or view. If they want to hand out flyers on the street people can choose weather or not they want to take it and read it. However, if you post it on the side of a bus or on a bill board you force people to view your own religious or non religious views. If I were a bus driver I would not be pleased about driving a bus that says there is no God, or there might not be a God. It is not what I believe and I would not appreciate driving around displaying such a message. There certainly is free speech but I also believe that people have the right to listen to that free speech or not, posting it on a bus takes away that right.
