Do you know how to check if the mirror in the changing rooms and bathrooms of hotels and shopping malls are two way mirrors? In a two way mirror the person on the other side can also see you. To make sure that the mirror is not a two way mirror just place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface. If there is a gap between your fingernail and the image of the nail then it is a genuine mirror. If your fingernail directly touches the image of your nail then it is a two way mirror. Make sure you check this the next time you use a changing room in a shopping mall!

I already knew this and ever since I found out about that, I always put my index finger to the fitting room mirror whenever before I try some clothes. And so far, I haven't encounter any two-way mirror yet and hopefully I never will.

Look at the mirror in your own home and see how your fingernail looks. Only then you would know the difference if you see any changes when you check any other mirror.

Hi dear, I have heard about the same. My hubby told me about it, after watching a programme in TV and he was doing experiment with our dressing table mirror (lol). Unfortunately I could not watch the program. The programme explained some unpleasant incidents happened with somebody. I don’t know the details. It means, we should be careful while going outside places and make sure about the mirror first. What a pity?

This is something we all need to know and keep an eye when we are out. We do tend to be a bit careless when we are in hotels and in changing rooms and someone somewhere could take advantage of that.

I'm glad you brought this up! I was looking for this one long ago because i forgot how to detect. So i guess it's the gap. Well i really need this piece of advice especially when me and my former girlfriend visit motels. I mean we should really be careful at least or we might find ourselves being recorded while doing something. You know what i mean. Still i value our privacy so a two mirror is really enough cause for alarm. I hope i won't forget it this time.

That's very interesting, and very illegal aswell. I think it's a very bad thing that these mirrors are caught in use in places where people need privacy as in changing rooms and hotel rooms. Yes, I do realize that certain monitoring in a shop is neccessairy to prevent shoplifting, etc. but I don't think these mirrors are the way to go. I had no clue on how to spot a two way mirror, so I am glad you brought this up. I will surely check next time!

I can two meanings of mayday Mayday is used as distress signal. It is derived from french venez m'aider which means 'come help me'. You often come across it in hollywood movies. Though, of late is has been replaced by SOS which means save our souls. Mayday also refers to public a holiday in many countries. A holiday to commemorate the international labours day.

indeed, in the society today we're perverts are all around us, it is wise to check the mirrors in public places especially in the changing room where we put off our clothes to try on a new one. Aside from checking mirrors, we must only shop on a trusted places or malls since they have high level of security. In addition, aside from mirrors, we must also be careful in using public toilets because we never know what's in store for us. We can never be too careful in protecting ourselves.

Hmm...interesting, why would they have that kind of mirror there in the hotel room and especially the bathroom? I've seen those kinds of mirrors in shopping malls for and I can see the purposes of the management wanting to monitor the activities to make sure that everything is safe and sound. I've been on business trips and stayed at the hotels but never thought of this at all. I will be careful and start checking the mirrors from now on because quite honest, I've always been making myself really comfortable when I am in the hotel room and would be very uncomfortable thinking that someone is watching me, that would be an intrusion of my privacy though. Thanks for the tips. Cheers, Cest_moi

There have been stories going around that hotels have been using the two way mirrors and enjoying intruding on everyone's privacy and monitoring the activities of those in the room. Similarly shopping malls and cloth shops have been caught with these kind of mirrors. That is why we have to be careful!!!

One has to be careful about this especially when travelling because in some places where they know that the only visitors there are those who come from far and may not be visiting the place again they tend to put this kind of stuff.

Yes, you are right, it is better to check the type of the mirror, before venturing into changing rooms of showrooms and big malls. In today's world you never know what is up. Instances have been reported in the media where some of the showrooms had some types of two mirrors in their changing rooms and it became quite embarrassing for the person who changed her/his clothes in the changing room, to know later that he/she was being viewed through a mirror.

Oh wow! I havent really thought about it but I really do look around the changing room in case there are some peep holes of some kind or something. I do that even in the toilet cubicle. I guess Im just a bit paranoid.LOL! Anyway Im also not that comfortable with mirrors. I try to avoid looking in mirrors as much as possible. But this information you gave me is quite useful. I used to think Id know two way mirrors once I see one but I think there are those genuine looking ones too. Thanks for this tip!

I have heard this and have checked, lol. Also, if you check at night, just turn off the lights. You can see a little what is on the other side, if there is even a hint of light.

I received the an email before regarding this matters. After that, I always check mirrors that I am using other than in my house. It's better be safe and check instead of fully believing. Things are unpredictable now days. I don't want to end up in Youtube (or any place those pervert can think of)
