A pattypan is a cute little squash. I do not know if you call it summer or winter. It is white, kind of flattish and I may have never eaten them. Our grocery store gets all kinds of squash.

Well...Not only is my name not Mary but I can't grow a garden where I live because every year I tried every year I got barely nothing due to the neighbours raiding the garden. They have more money than they need so are not hungry but like the fresh produce. Thought I was smart I told them they could have a corner of ground and plant here for themselves but they declined saying they were too active with the senior centre and church. She even had the nerve to make a stew and brought us a taste and that's all it was. There are three of us here and given barely enough for one person. We just gave up. I go to farmers market now and honestly I can buy there cheaper than I can grow. I am just no longer able to do my own garden anyway. I am curious what is cilantro? I have heard of it but know nothing about it. Thanks.

Cliantro is a leafy spice used mainly in Mexican style dishes. The seeds from cilantro are where we get corriander another spice. Now to figure out how I get the corriander seeds from the plant as well as the leaves. I grow a lot cheaper than if I shopped at a Farmers Market as I grow so much. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Thank You Bob. I guess because I don't use too much spice and don't eat mexican food guess that's why I did't know what Cilantro was. Yes that does make good sense the more you grow the better and the more saving. Thanks

Ground isn't ready yet, too cold at night, but inside I have romaine lettuce, great lakes lettuce, red bell pepper, giant yellow bell pepper, yellow squash, beans, peas, corn, hollyhocks, morning glory, broccoli and carrots. I think that's all right now. I'm out of peat pots, but I have tomato seeds, zucchini, acorn squash and butternut squash and I think a couple of pumpkin seeds.

Wow, seems that you could harvest so many varieties of crops all the year round. I live in a tropical country where the weather here is almost the same year in or year out. The average temperature here is 32 degree C averagely during daytime. Due to the climate here I mostly plant sweet potatoes, yams, tapioca, onions, sweet corns, red peppers, long beans, lady fingers, cucumbers, spinach and some other leafy vegetables. All these are crops which are easy to plant and take care of. I love broccoli and carrots as well as tomatoes very much. But it’s rather sad that I could hardly get any harvest even I had tried hard to plant them before. Lol so I could get them from the market only. Happy posting Grandpa Bob.

I don't think tomatoes handle the tropical weather too well. I have a short growing season here in Minnesota. From mid May till about September or October at the latest usually. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I live in a city of 60,000+ people. But I have a large backyard. Twice the size of a stanbdard city yard I'd say. Lot's of room still available for gardenming if I wish. Lot's of grassy area for Buster as well still there. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Because I live in a small situation I am using planters this year. I am going to have cherry and pear tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and some ornamental lettuce. I will also plant basil, rosemary, lavender and would like to try some cantaloupe. Am waiting until mid May to plant. Have you seen those purple string beans? They are cool. I try to plant some different varieties of things too.

I didn't get the garden tilled up - long story - so making due with what I have. Took 6 - 5 gallon buckets and putting tomatoes in those then have some deep planter boxes for peas and carrots - figure they can be planted together. I have some nice size flower pots that I'm putting peppers in. That's about it. I'll sure miss potatoes this year but at least I can still make my salsa.

We usually do sweet corn, tomatoes, green peppers, jalepeno, zuchini, cucumbers, and herbs.... this year we are going to do our gardening differently...spread out throughout the yard and in pots vs the ground so they will be angled nicely with the sun at certain times.... and we wont be doing the sweet corn this year since we dont really have the yard to do them... and by time they are ready the local wildlife help themselves to it overnight before we can get to it!!! I know for sure we will be doing green peppers, tomatoes, and jalepenos... as for others....we will have to wait to see when it comes time for us to go to our local farm market and choose... happy gardening!!

My back yard gets about 10 hours of sun every day so it is a perfect area for gardening. My dog keeps most critters at bay so I have been lucky with that. The squirrels do get some corn though but with about 50 planted they can have a few stalks of it. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Sadly, we're not growing any vegetables. We have a beautiful orange tree which gives hundreds of fruit every year - and a lime tree which does the same. I've had a cold for the past few days and my son makes gorgeous hot lime drinks with the limes, which make me feel much better.

Hi GRANDPA BOB, What a lot you have planted, you really have been very busy and when they all start showing, wow! wouldn't that be grand? I have not grown anything in my garden. Tamara
