No my house has not been invaded by a whole swarm of mosquitoes it has to do with my husband. His skin has gotten sensitive since his stroke and he finds his underwear is itchy in the private areas and he wears cotton. He suggested that I buy a fabric softener Wrong. I am allergic to the perfume in the fabric softeners so I use vinegar as a rinse agent. So I was wondering whether it is the detergent, because that contains a slight perfume. And the store I go to does not have the hypo allergic soap in the brand I like.
So I was wondering what kind of laundry detergent do those of you use for sensitive skin? And whether that has proved successful? I live in Canada by the way.

Have you tried to use a baby product? They are made for super sensitive skins So it might be worth looking into I know they have Dreft but I know there are several other brands out there also. Well, good luck finding something that works because itching is no fun at all.

Our Superstore does make a sensitive detergent and it is for babies. It is not in the concentrated type and not for high efficiency machines, that is, it foams up more. I know that there is a sensitive detergent in the brand I use at Safeway because that Safeway is near several senior citizen's apartments, but it is a mile away, and my husband watches the money. But if he does not want to itch, I guess I will have to go there and get the detergent from Safeway.

If you could get a sample free maybe and he finds out it works he might feel such relief from the itch he might like it enough to go buy it and spend that extra on it.

I find if I use a hand cream or lotion around his sensitive area, that it helps. His skin is getting itchy and I think it is because of his disease. I might try to get a sensitive shampoo for his hair. Right now we use Head and Shoulders because he likes it, but I do not think that is the best.

We live in Winnipeg, and I think it has to do with the stroke. He is starting to act funny because if affected his brain. He does not wear any cologne. But he uses Zest, he likes it, but I do not. I wonder if that could be a problem.

I figure that is a good idea. I do use regular laundry detergant, but the store brand and they have a baby detergent. That seems to work and also hand lotion. That helps.

I use Sunlight and also I found that the store brands have a none perfume kind and they are cheaper. i use regular hand lotion around where it itches and that helps. I tried talcum powder but that did not do anything.

why don't you try hand washing the underclothes with a mild bathing soap instead of going in for harsh detergents? just make sure that you rinse the garment thoroughly so that all the soap is washed off.
it is also possible that your husband has contracted a fungal infection which is contributing to the itching.

He has als and because the nerve centers do not get the message across and his muscles are atrophying, the nerves have to go somewhere. We use the non-allergic detergants and also I use hand lotion around that area because he is quite dry there. I do want to look for a different shampoo because his hair gets itchy.

It could be the detergent. I do use vinegar but wonder whether I should have put more in.

Well, for me I have found that I have to really watch what I use for sure. I know that there are many detergents and such that can irritate my skin as well. I used to use Laundry detergent and such from a Wellness company that you have to be a member of, or know someone who is, but due to the Economy, etc. I cannot afford to get these as well. But they sure helped with many of my issues with skin for sure.

I think I would try washing them in the Dreft detergent that you use for babies clothes. That way you know there is nothing in there to bother him.

I use a hypo-allergenic detergent and it works quite well. I also use a hand lotion and that also works as my husband is quite dry. I do wonder what to use for his hair though.

There are a few different brands of detergent that have no perfumes in them or no fragrance. Next time you to Walmart or someplace like that just read the labels carefully. You could also try detergents that are made for babies, such as Dreft. They are gently formulated and may be good for your husband, of course they cost a bit more, but it might be worth trying out to see if that helps. I hope you find a solution.

We use dreft in this country or baby washing powder like fairy non bio.I have never heard of using vineger as a rinse aid.Could it be that.seems using an acid to rinse your clothes is a bit dangerous.Or buy nappy soak for his underwear and just rinse in cold water might work, that is what we used to do with babies nappies when mine were little and they never got a rash.Hope something works for him soon bad enough not being able to move around much anyway but being uncomfortable as well poor chap.Take care suzzyxx.

My partner had the same problem so we buy washing powder that has no additives for sensitive skin and he uses only products for sensitive skin to wash. We don't use any fabric softeners at all. Someone showed me these plastic balls that you can put in your washing machine instead of any powder or detergent - I couldn't believe they worked, but she has been using them for a couple of years and is happy with them, they are quite expensive though. I realised in the last 6 months that my partner's itchiness only gets really bad when he is hot - so it's more likely to be where things are tight on the skin or on hot nights.

I heard about those plastic balls. A friend of mine was giving a demonstration along with the other products they have, but I could not afford to buy anything yet. They also sell a soap for sensitive skin.

Go to laundrytree.com and see if they still have the sample size of the soap nuts. They are only $1.99 and they do work. I think that if it is the detergent, those will be good for him.
Also, try Dove soap as that is what my daughter had to use when she was having problems with sensitive skin.
