Did you experience cutting your hair yourself?

I do experience doing it when I was in college. I was living in a boarding school at that time and I don't want to spend my money to pay for hair cutter. It's too expensive. LOL.. How I do that? Well, I just go to a big full size mirror and then cut a portion of my hair that I want to shorten. I;m just glad I have a curly hair and so, if the cutting is not right, it will not be obvious because my hair is curly anyway. And now? I again do that.. hahah.. I think, I can do that so why spend bucks for it? I called it self help.. Lol.. what about you? did you experience the same?

My sister has curly hair and she does cut her own hair. But she really has the skill to cut hair and not doing it by chance like you are doing! Ha!ha!ha! I don't cut my hair, I live that job to my hairdresser, but I do cut my bangs once in a while. I think that simple cutting job, I can do but not the entire hair.

Well, I know a little of hair cutting. hahahah I do cut my hubby's hair and even my sister and some of my friend's hair. I am not a hair dresser but I know how to cut hair. My father knows how to cut hair and I learn it from him. So, I have a skill for that.. hehehe since I am here, my hubby had saved some bucks for his hair cut.

Well, I think I can.. but it is a different thing here because when your customer would not like what you do? they can sue you hahahah not like in our country. I also know how to sew and I am accepting alterations.. like hemming pants just for my friends but not other people because I'm afraid I might be charged if people don;t like my work.. hahaha good if they are just friends because they will consider. I earned $5 per pants for adjusting the length. Not a hard job..I can do that in 30 minutes or less. Maybe I can expand my alteration business someday hahhaha.. just for sideline. I want to have a full time job.. and hopefully I can have one this year. God willing. happy mylotting my friend.

I cut my own hair most of the time. When my Hubby and I were first married we were poor and so I began to cut his hair so we didnt need to pay someone else. I think I have cut my hair most of my life. It is a good way to save money. Haircuts can add up. I have 4 people in my family and I cut all of our hair, unless I have a friend that wants to switch favors.

I tried once when I was a kid and got spanked for it. Actually, I wanted my Mom to take me to the beauty shop to get it cut and she had refused. So, I took a pair of scissors and cut it myself as a pure act of rebellion. I got spanked for it and the rebel in me was nipped in the bud. ;) Later, when I grew up, my Mom would trim my hair herself. Now, I just let it grow wild. I see no sense in cutting it. Mom's early spanks worked, eh? ;) Cheers and happy Mylotting

Believe it or not I hate getting my haircut! So if my bangs are getting a bit long and the other part of my hair still looks okay, I'll cut my bangs myself. At times I'll get them too short but it always grows back.

hahaha that's right!! it will grow anyway. Well, bangs is just easy to cut. the hard part is the back.. but I made it using a front and back mirrors. I mean I used big mirrors at the back and in front.. and it works..

Same to what i am doing but not with the bangs, the hair itself. I used mirror but unfortunately i can not do it perfectly unlike hair cutters really do. It is not easy to make the cut even. But i love doing it when my hair is already long.

Well, sometimes I go to the parlor but then, there was one time that the hair cutter will not follow what I want. She insist to do what she wants for my hair. I was upset on that and decided to just cut my hair myself. In that way I can save and can do what I want.

Where I live now, a decent haircut is less than $2 so I don't have to cut my hair myself. Even so, I don't think I'll be cutting my hair by myself! I keep my hair short, just above the shoulder, so I think it'll be difficult to cut the back, even with a mirror. Some years ago, I also went to a boarding school (in another country) and haircuts there were expensive! So I just let my hair grow for about a year until I could go home where haircuts are cheap :)

Oh!! good for you? less than $2? I think that is the price in the Philippines too. But here in US? the hair trip is $15. That is too much for me if I only need a trim at the end part of my hair. I will just do it myself to save my $15 bucks.

I think I've tried to cut it myself once but it didn't turn out very good, so I never did it again. I've had others cut it for me that weren't haircutters, but I don't trust just anyone to do it because I don't want to look funny..haha. I'll just pay the extra money to get it done by a professional, it doesn't cost that much anyway, at least I know I won't look funny.

I remember doing that when I was in my senior years in high school; I cut my bangs myself and it was horrible I never do it again. I was thinking it's just easy to do that, thinking that anyway it's just the bangs but boy, it looks like ladders/stairs afterwards I cannot help myself laughing until this time when I remeber it. It's only after that when I learned that there's really a style or skill used in trimming and cutting hairs and if you're not a cutter you will never know. I have a straight hair and the damaged had been very obvious then, you have no idea how I looked after that......lol.

I have only tried cutting my hair once, but it was so disasterous that I don't think I'll ever do it again! I like to go to the hairdressers now, they can do it much nicer than I ever could! If I could do it well, then I probably would do it, but unfortunately I can't!

hahaha that is funny when you feel it is a disaster? just go and spend your money for a nice hair cut. I am doing it myself because I am confident that no disaster will happen because my hair is curly and it is not obvious if it turns out bad. hahahah

I always cut my hair myself because I think the cost of having my hair done at a professional salon is way too much. It does take me quite long to do, but I am saving a huge amount of money by doing it myself so I really don't mind.

i agree, haircuts are expensive, but i've never cut my own hair. i'd probably ruin it and it would end up really uneven lol. i have straight hair so it would be more noticeable if i cut it wrong.

Well, I saw your hair,, it's long and not so curly hehehe so if you cut it yourself you might mess it and your hubby might complain.. Actually my hubby would not want me to have a short hair. So, I am only trimming the end part of it.

Hello Bebs. I have never had such an experience because I am afraid that I will make my hair messy and then I will have to go to my barber for another haircut. But it is good that you dare give your hair a try and now you know you can do a good job on your hair, which is really cool though.

Since we girls usually have long hair when the need arises we can always trim our hair if we want to. I have trimmed my hair very often but if I want a proper hair cut then I go to an experienced person.

yes, I agree!! if it need to be.. we can go to an expert hair dresser but for me, I am contented of just cutting a little in the end part. Anyway, my hubby don't want me to have a short hair. So, I just trim a little every now and then.

I never tried to cut my hair myself, I'd mess it up so bad I'd probably just have to shave my head. My wife used to cut our hair, it was cheaper and she did a really good job but now I've been going to Great Clips or where ever a coupon emerges. Kids cuts are cheap and my son loves his hair short so we just have them shave him and he's good for a month.

Well, I think for men, it is hard to cut your hair by yourself. But for women it is a little bit easier because our hair is longer and much more if it is curly, it doesn't matter if you mess up a little bit. It is not obvious when the hair is curly. It would help us to save a penny.

Hey Bebs! OMG! I have curly hair too! And I used to cut my hair years ago and now again I cut my own hair too to save money and because I let it grow and don't know what I want to do with it! I hate going to the hair dressers because they always mess it up and don't do what I want! And they charge so much money! So I have also been cutting it myself for about a year now! And you are right! If it wasn't curly I might be in trouble too!

hahaha you said it right!! it would be a mess if our hair is straight and we mess it. anyway, I am doing it too right now because the trimming here is too expensive. And that is correct that the hair dresser will not follow our request. They keep on suggesting of what is best and what style... blah.. blah... blah.. I don't like it. It burns me up.. it is better to cut it myself..
