Do you find yourself doing this?

When you respond back to a discussion do you respond back just by looking at the question of the topic? Or do you actually read it first, acknowledge it before you respond? I have to admit before I used to just reply back by reading the question and funny dumb me the response I posted wasn't even related to the question itself. Then I get a comment back from the user saying if I actually read their discussion because what I put on there was way off. Ever have that happen to you? So now I just figure what the hey it's a lot better to read the post to get a better understanding of what the writer is talking about. Kind of like the old saying never judge a book by it's cover.

Well yeah duh I mean I wouldn't want to make myself a fool to say something meaningless to a topic. I tend to read a topic before I say something about it. Sometimes though I have to re-read it twice depending on the topic of what the person is talking about. Then again, I even found topics that didn't make any sense and some users that did post it agreed. Well there you go right darkangel? Brain freeze? LOL

So i thinkit did not happened to me but may be it can happen i understand the post when i read and when i write i answer only in part in relation to the discussions!!I think it can be possible also because i am not a native speaker so sometimes i can commit mistake or just understood mainly the discussion and foret soem parts of it!!Anyway normally whe the discussion is good articulated it is quite easy to write your response in a complete way and surely the explaination when the discussion start is quite improtant to understand in what way the topic will develop!!

If I am in a hurry, I'll admit it, I will respond just by looking at the topic, but I usually try my best to read each topic.

I always read before responding. Because I have to translate English into a language that I use, in order to know the meaning. Before responding, I have to translate the language that I use to be English. So I have to read everything. Happy mylotting..

Hi Angel, So far I didn't face such situation. first of all I am new to MyLot and I do read the message written by the author before I answer it. Beacuse I really feel ashamed if some one points out me :) that's why I try to be very careful.

I like your answer and it is honest. I look at it now too well not to say ashamed but in my part I would come out like a fool if someone points out to me I responded something that didn't make sense to what they spoke of. Thanks for sharing.

For me, I always read the discussion and see if there is something more to it than what is originally started or asked in the Title. I know there are many times when if you miss out and do not read the discussion first you will often find yourself not posting back as wanted. Usually when I read the whole discussion this helps to give me an idea on how to respond back, or if I am interested more in responding back to it as well. Because personally it for me is Best to respond like they want, or not respond back at all.

It's usually the title of the discussion that draws me in, but I always read the full "story" or "question" before I respond. Maybe that's why nobody responds to my discussions. I don't usually put a question in my title and I just title it. *shrug*

I always make it a point to actually read the post before I reply. I've actually written a post about people who reply simply based on the subject like. Like you said, they are sometimes not on topic at all.

I actually never did that. I always read the content even if i am in a hurry. I am afraid of saying something way off about the topic even if the question posted gives me some certainty about what may be under discussion. Though, there are times that i just skim through the content and not read them all if its too long. I just read it enough to give me a very good idea of what is being talked about and what is really being asked.

I've always read the discussion before responded as like you send often the discussion is not entirely related to the title. I think to be able to give the best answer possible to the question asked you have to read the whole discussion otherwise it's not worth responding.

I sometimes begin to answer just by the question and then read the rest as I go. I think a good question gets my interest and I want to get started on it. I usually do read the post especially if it is from a friend I usually agree with or enjoy their topics and such. Yes, I agree. Never judge a book by it's cover.

I normaly read the discussion topic, then about 90% of the replies (if it has any yet), then if I have a comment I'll reply. I read most of the comments so I can see if anyone else may have had the same thoughts as me so I dont make a redundant reply. I know I'm not making any money when I dont comment, but thats not really the entire point of being here.

yes of course at least twice or more times i read the discussion from the title and the whole message befor i post my response. well we are just human vulnerable to mistakes, we are not perfect. consider those message, important thing is that everybody is enjoy, the reader and especially the one who post the message.

I may have did this before once or twice.. Out of hurry. But now I do read the discussions first and then probably reply to it. And mostly I end up closing it. But I always choose them from their catchy lines. And then content.

Reading the discussion content is quite important here. Some people like to put the discussion topic quite straight forward, but some discussion starters like to use metaphors and such to make the discussion sound interesting and attract more people to respond. I have never been questioned if I had read the discussion content, but once I was close to responding to some discussion, with something completely not relevant to it. Then later I realised that I was doing it wrong and had to go back and edit it completely. bourne

Hi darkangel, I always read the topic of discussion before answering it, i even read the other answers lest I post the same views again regarding the topic. Even when I am answering the comments made on my own discussions, I read each of the comment made by the members and try my best to answer accordingly.. Like you I too feel that it is always better to read the post to get a better understanding of what the writer is talking about or wants to discuss about..

I do read both of the topics and the contents because sometimes only the toics might tell you what it is about but some of them you really need to read the content to know what is going on. I have time to do so because I'm not rushing to just post post post so it doesn't take me long to read the content before responding to the discussions.
