I got good news, you guys know the pressure I have been under about moving and afraid that I would be on the street on the lst of july, then the landlord said he couldn't leave because I told I couldn't find a place, and therefore my lease had to continue, but he wanted 100 dollars more a month and I said I could not pay that which I couldn't and so we were under so much stress, that I was literally too ill even to stay up during the day, he said he would think about lowering the amount he wanted, but he never got back to me, well tonight he did come back with an offer instead of 100 dollars more it was gonna 30 dollars more and I said that was too much. And so he said okay for this year he will leave the rent the same as it is and he will fix the back yard I am so amazed and happy. Next year he said to be prepared for the big raise since he is not going to do any repairs this year it will be all done next year. I will worry about next year when next year comes, but for now I am happy. Finally after three full months of stress I can relax again. so what is going on in your lives, anything bad or good happen to you recently?

Well this may be good news I don't know...I agree with HICCUP---you MAY be covered for awhile but then again not. I'm thinking of the legal ramifications here. Number One: When your new lease was up he asked $100 extra, you refused and he claimed he had rented the apt out after July 1st Number Two: he obviously DIDN'T rent out the apt but still can if he has the mind to do so since he can view you as being uncooperative Number Three: He was very generous in lowering his $100 to only $30 extra a month and you still refuse to pay that, which leads to..... From a legal stance he could actually view you as a "squatter" since I'm taking no formal signed new lease was made...was it? If so the next papers he might spring up is eviction if he's a nasty so and so whatever you do,..you better high tail it and continue to look for a new place to live ..in other words get moving and really looking around I've had my own share of legal issues with landlords so I'm speaking from experience---thankfully I won against my landlord...a prospect he's probably not happy with but I had a lot of great legal help to fight for me

pye I checked into all the legal stuff from the beginning, I didn't contest the raise when when he made the raise which was illegal because I expected to move, so it would not have been worth it, I gave my three months notice as required by law, he accepted it, that crap of he rented the place was just a lie but then when I couldn't find a place for July first I was relieved that he told me to stay, but the rent which is the illegal thing was still up to bad, the 30, is still illegal, the actual rent increase he could ask for is, 3.00 now next year I can either contest his high rate or move in which case I have to give him his three months notice required by law which I did this year. I will not know what is available for next year until april when everyone will give their notice that they are moving. I told him 30.00 was still too high, I would have paid up to 15.00 more a month, even though I know and he knows by law could only charge me 3.00 but many people don't know the law and they will pay the landlords anything they ask for that is why landlords do these things. and he does not want to fight it in court because he already knows he will lose I was shocked he decided to leave the rent as it was, as I said I would have paid up to 15.00 more, by the way he took too other of the tenents to court and lost that is why he doesn't want to fight anymore.

PS--Don't want to sound like an alarmist but I know how landlords minds works and more important lawyers...many of my friends said I missed my calling and should have been a lawyer myself...LOL

While this is a USA thing, here are the legal ramifications that might hold true in your area as well Am I entitled to notice if my landlord wants to increase my rent? The tenancy between the parties is a legal contract. It cannot be changed by one side. The tenant can agree to a rent increase. But if the tenant does not agree to the rent increase, then the landlord must terminate the tenancy. In a tenancy at will, the landlord must then give a notice to quit but such written notice may include an offer to establish a new tenancy for the same premises at the higher rent. If the tenant does not agree to this rent increase, the only option for the landlord is to commence eviction proceedings. http://www.mass.gov/courts/courtsandjudges/courts/housingcourt/housingquestions.html#27 Like I said since you have refused any kind of rent increase he could pursue eviction issues

That is wonderful, Carol! You're so right - waiting to worry about next year until it comes will keep us all sane! I am so very happy that this burden will be lifted off of your shoulders. I guess I have some good news. My mom has a job interview at 9:30am and I think she stands a great chance of getting the job. If she does, she and my dad will have health insurance again. Theirs has only been expired two days, but with my mom's medication needs, and my dad's worsening hearing, they need medical insurance. My dad's full time job does not provide health insurance.

That is great to hear. I am glad that it all got worked out for you. I have been working around my house alot lately and online. I have been painting my walls and I still have to do the ceiling, which will take a very long time to do. I hope my house payment does not go up next month when they send out the new coupon book. I hope it goes down. We will have to wait and see.

WOW! So glad to hear you are going to okay. Winter will be upon us sooner than we like. Good, good and good. I have had a weird run of luck later. First the guy thing, then my girlfriend accused me of stealing from her, Then my best friend in all the world called me Sunday and told me her son had passed away last Thursday. She had a problem with her cell and lost my number so she couldn't call me. I felt so bad. And then, if that wasn't enough, I had to take my daughter to the hospital lastnight because she had a miscarriage back in late April and it wasn't taken care of correctly. Is this Karma or what? Glad for you and your situation though.

True, but if you continue to look around now you might find something or develop a relationship with a company or property owner or find a program to assist you. If I remember you started looking around a couple months before your lease was up this time around and you still were not able to find anything.

yeah he is well aware that he could not legally demand that kind of money and he was trying to strong arm me thinking I would cave in. I will end up going through this again next year but I have to wait until it happens, this is not a situation that can be dealt with in advance according to our housing laws here in montreal.

That is fantastic news Winterose as I know it has been a major worry for you. Montreal has strange housing rules though as here in the UK you find somewhere to rent put a deposit down and then give a months notice to current landlord, not all move the same day of the year. Not been up to much myself and been away from here as computer connectivity playing up but am going to visit friends at the weekend. Huggles. Ellie :D

Your system sounds alot better than ours. We used to have May 1 as moving day but it was changed because it was hard to move on May first it was cold and people preferred to move in the summer.

I'm very happy to hear your good news! I was thinking about you and wondering what was going on, but didn't have reliable internet connection for a few days now. (I HOPE that's over now.) If I were you, I'd keep looking for a new place right now and not stop until I found one, because you'll have to face this all over again next year and, chances are, your landlord won't be as nice next year. But, for now, I'm extremely happy to hear that that immense stress if off you! That's really awesome news! As for me, I'm just exhausted. The weather has been mostly good for the past four days except for some drizzle and a couple of bad storms in two of those days, so I've been doing a lot outdoors. My youngest son's birthday was Monday but, since he had to work, we celebrated yesterday, even though it was cut short because of a party he had to go to last night plus a major storm that rolled through here. (He wanted to get home before the storm hit and get ready for his party with his friends.) My youngest son came over on Tuesday and we went boating. Actually, the "boat" is an inflatable boat that supposedly seats four, although two adults fit comfortably. Anyway, he inflated it for me for the first time since I bought it last year and managed to get me into it and we went all around the lake; he rowed while I fished. We had a blast! He actually loved the peace and quiet and it was a lovely day. Not much wind, partly cloudy so it didn't get too hot, and the fish were biting. Aside from that, I received a check in the mail from Social Security, although it was not the check I've been waiting for. This was a check reimbursing me for the mileage to and from the psyche evaluation the judge wanted. It was enough to buy my oldest son a nice gift, plus have his favorite dinner (which was more like a late lunch since he had that party later) of hamburgers on the grill, corn on the cob, potato salad and his favorite ice cream, butter pecan. I also found a butter pecan cake mix which I thought was pretty cool and made that. It tasted really good! Just like the ice cream only in cake form. Let's see... anything else? Uh, no, except for the internet problems, plus my desktop getting ready to die. It's been pretty quiet, for the most part. Well, my cat has caught and killed at least 3 mice and 1 bird in the past week but I see that as 3 mice and 1 bird that won't be eating my fruits and veggies! LOL

I only have from April 1 to June 30th to find a place, this is how it works here in quebec, that is when people tell their landlords they are not renewing their leases. so next year we have to deal with the issue again, right now I have looked so long and so hard and I need a rest anyway. For now I have to take a break, it has been hell on me going everywhere and not finding a place to live in at all. so we will just have wait and see, maybe next year it will be easier to find a place who knows. Wishing you all the best.

Well, take it easy and get as much rest as you need. Hopefully, the economy will be better next year. Keep up your writing, too. Do you have sponsors for your blog? I know it's hard making extra money online these days, especially when so many others are trying to do the same. It seems that all the places that pay online aren't paying as much as they used to, probably because of the influx of people trying to make a few extra dollars each month. You said you were a counselor and you are a writer. Have you thought of maybe doing some tutoring on writing or starting a counseling blog? I know that the more blogs a person has, the more sponsors they can get and the more money they can make. You also said you are psychic. Maybe you could start a blog to help people who need the services of a psychic, like locating lost objects or things like that. I don't know what kind of psychic powers you have, but whatever they are, you could apply them to help people. I read a story about someone with psychic powers. Once word got out about them, people started sending them things in the mail, personal things, in order for the psychic to touch them and maybe get some feelings about certain people or things. People also started sending this person money, just in the hope that the psychic could tell them something. I know you just want to relax right now but I'm just trying to give you some food for thought for the future in the hopes that your financial situation will improve for you. Here's wishing you all the best, too!

Hello ma'm I know from the beginning you posted this problem of yours and I got worried also. I haven't read your topics anymore for quite sometime thinking that you're already gone somewhere because you had been thrown out by your landlord. Suddenly you pop up with the feeling of happiness. Ohhhh thank God..I am really happy for you ma'm. Just don't be worried of tomorrow's problem because as what the Bible says, tomorrow has its own problem...let's enjoy the happy moment God give us today and don't worry for the next problem of tomorrow...Cheer up ma'm..I am really happy for you...

pretty much the same thing, trying to keep up with the bills while hubby is out of work. he works in auto parts and it is hit the worst in this economy. I wish he works in different field we won't suffer as much push backs. that's really good news your landlord finally comes to term. in our case if things don't get better soon we will have to sell the house or end up in shelter too. I hope it will never get to that, but winter is coming soon and hydro/gas bills will rise again. I don't know if we will make it through next winter at all.

that's great news, Winterose! That really is a stressful situation. I'm glad that your landlord compromised and you are able to relax and breathe deep for a bit. Just don't forget how quickly time flies and next year will be here before you know it. Maybe you should be keeping your ears open for a more affordable place. At least this buys you some time. Do you qualify for any rental subsidy? If so or if your not sure....now would be the time to check it out. Often times they will subsidize the place you are in but they will require the landlord to make some repairs if needed. best of luck to you.

I have tried every angle available to me in my city, I don't quality for subsidy which is an allowance, the low rentals have a waiting list of up to 15 years and my name is in that, and I am making another application, I am making an application for senior residence and disability housing as well but again there is a big demand and long waiting lists. as far as regular houses we can only move on July one and we only know if there are houses available between April and June 30th, so I will be facing the same situation next year, but for now I can relax,
